New York Times bestselling “master” of American thriller writing Michael Koryta returns with an electrifying new novel about a mother seeking to reconnect with her children after a terrible trial tears their family apart Nina Morgan’s bloodstained car was found a decade ago on a lonely Florida road. Forensic evidence suggested she’d been murdered, although her body was never found. Her … body was never found. Her disappearance left her infant children to the care of their father.
Once a pilot, mother, wife, and witness to a gruesome crime, Nina had to flee her old life to save her family. She reinvented herself as Leah Trenton, a guide in the Allagash Wilderness in northern Maine. She never expected to see her children again, but now tragedy has returned them to her–only they have no idea that she’s their mother–and delivered all of them back into danger. “Aunt Leah” will need some help, and an old ally has a suggestion: an enigmatic young hitman named Dax Blackwell.
Never Far Away is a thrilling collision between old sins and new dreams, where the wills and ingenuity of a broken family will be tested against all odds.

Michael Koryta is a powerful and masterful writer with bone-deep understanding of his characters, and a gift for perfectly- paced suspense. With its transporting sense of place, and elegantly layered but utterly breathless story, NEVER FAR AWAY is the raw, emotional, and riveting work of a craftsman at the top of his game. By far one of the best books I’ve read this year.
NEVER FAR AWAY has it all. A heroine you’ll root for, a woman who has been through the fire and battle-hardened, ready to face a battery of villains you will love to hate. A battle of good vs. evil. And, because this is Michael Koryta, you’ll be plunged into a new world, complete: the remote and sprawling Allagash Wilderness and all the dangers that come with it. You’ll learn how to shoot rapids, fly a floatplane, and survive in a wilderness that would just as soon see you dead. NEVER FAR AWAY is a perfect thriller, and one tense and chilling ride.
“Rollercoaster” is often used to describe a book, but none deserves the accolade more than NEVER FAR AWAY. Gripping in every way, it’s the story of a woman who, after witnessing a gruesome crime, needed to disappear from her beloved family in order to protect them. But fate had other ideas. Ten years later, she’s stalked by an unforgiving tycoon with a vendetta, a pair of dead-eyed assassins, and an anti-hero. You won’t be able to put it down until the last shot has been fired.
Satisfying read. Action packed and entertaining with hit men, murder, a mother in hiding to protect her family… Another good book by Michael Koryta.
Original and suspenseful with powerfully written characters.
A great thriller which kept me glued to the pages until the end.
Never Far Away is another compulsive read by Michael Koryta, a leader in the mystery/thriller genre. At this point, any serious reader of the genre should move Koryta to the very top of the heap, along with Don Winslow.
Consider a frog in tepid water that is slowly warming to a boil. You know what is going to happen but getting there is all the fun.
Nina Morgan is a woman in distress. So much so that she fakes her death with the help of the hitmen who were assigned to end her life. Flash ten years forward when the charade falls apart as integral players die, and others are in harm’s way. Throw in crooked politicians, paid mercenaries, and desperate ordinary folks. All these ingredients combine to produce an enthralling, spectacular, and chilling mystery that will reverberate long after you have finished this outstanding effort by one of the best mystery writers in the business.
Never Far Away is a fast paced, action packed , hold your breath thriller at which Michael Koryta excels.
Nina aka Leah who is already in hiding has to come out to take care of her two children who thought she had died.
This alerts those looking for Leah and the action starts and never stops as Leah does her best to protect her kids and they are soon on the run.
Never Far Away is a good story and the pages quickly turn themselves.
Thanks to NetGalley, Little Brown and Company for the pleasure of reading another Michael Koryta thriller.
