The last thing Iris needs is a man with his head in the clouds. Most days Iris can’t believe that she actually left her home and country for a smooth-talking jerk who tossed her into the street first chance he got. A woman has to view that sort of thing as life lesson. Her mum raised her to be a survivor, and that includes understanding her worst enemy is herself when it comes to good-looking … to good-looking men.
Besides… nice men don’t date broke women staying at hostels. And Lincoln Walker seems to be a very, very nice man. He has a growing list of rich, beautiful, and successful business women wanting to date him. Iris calls tending bar a career. They couldn’t be any less suited for each other.
Imagine Cinderella never getting to the ball. Then imagine her turning forty and still scrubbing fireplaces for a living. That would be the fairytale version of Iris’s life.
She’s got no time to waste on dating Prince Charming—or rather, Prince Walker. The man owns his own urban kingdom and yet chooses to fly balloons for a living. Iris, on the other hand, chooses to take down rowdy drunks in bars. Cupid better not shoot an arrow her way or she’ll take him down too.
In her life, love and romance are temporary. That’s all Iris can afford.

Never Ever Been Better is such a fun story and in many ways a comedy of errors. When Iris announces she is engaged to Lincoln out of the blue it is a surprise to everyone, especially Lincoln. Donna McDonald brings characters to life in a style that is all her own. I love that her characters have lived a little before and are a little older and more mature. This is a wonderful series but this is also a stand-alone book so feel free to just jump right in and enjoy the ride.
For some there’s only one. Iris is like most women with self esteem problems. Lincoln’s the unbelievably paramount nice guy. To what lengths would you go for love? Grab your copy and see theirs.
I do love the Perfect Date series. When a new book comes out, I know that I’m in for an uplifting, lighthearted, funny read that will just make me feel good.
Linc and Iris’ story is no exception. This is a standalone book, but Linc had Della chase Iris down in the previous book. No worries. You will not miss anything if you start with this book. If anything, it will make you want to read the previous books.
I like that the couples are mostly late 30’s and older. Mature, have careers, have baggage, and are often ridiculously funny.
Linc was a bit strange, but he was a nice guy with a hidden side. Iris had her own fair share of hidden talents. It was such fun to see how they interacted. This book also has a number of the previous couples making an appearance as well as an introduction to a possible future couple.
A sweet, sexy, funny, romantic comedy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Never Ever Been Better is a funny, stand-alone novel. It is The Perfect Date Book 8 by Donna McDonald so there are some supporting characters from the previous books but read so very well on its own. The Perfect Date doesn’t introduce Iris and Lincoln but does have an influence on this couple.
The young do not have the market on sassy and snarky. No one does it better than the women of this series. While their ages vary, none are the typical college age books that have characters who try to pull this off. This series has reminded me that with age come sometimes wisdom but also a who cares attitude that is perfect for the witty banter that takes place. Lincoln is a character that is easy to like so Iris has to work hard to stay indifferent to him. She has been burned so her wariness is understandable. Never boring, often funny and always entertaining, Never Ever Been Better is a hit with me.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
First, this book is a standalone so no worries. It does have walk on parts of many of the characters from previous stories and I always love to revisit with them. The entire series is such fun that I recommend to read. Having said that, I have loved Lincoln since he first walked into a scene (in previous books) so it was great to read about his HEA.
Iris and Lincoln are both strong characters, but have totally different faces that they show the rest of the world. I think the funniest thing that happened between them was the dueling martial arts abilities. Oversimplification and totally not funny when I write it but the author will make you laugh, guaranteed! Iris is a strong woman who can take care of herself but…she thinks she is a total life failure. Lincoln is one of the nicest heroes I’ve read but has this simmering ‘bad boy’ right under the surface, only he never lets it show. Until Iris.
Chaos ensues and Lincoln has a hard road to travel to try to convince Iris that they belong together. Add in all the friends and significant others and it is truly a fun, touching, crazy book. I’m hoping there are more couples to be matched in The Perfect Date series although I don’t know how you can top these eight books.
A witty romp into the mature dating scene. Nice guy Lincoln Walker is back for his own match. However, the woman he’s interested in isn’t a “The Perfect Date” client. Iris Pendleton is a down on her luck Brit stranded in the States until she can save enough money for a flight back to the UK, so she can lick her wounds and sort her life. I love that Lincoln is over 40 and Iris is about to turn 40, they’ve both been around the block. Maybe Iris more than Lincoln, but they’ve both been disillusioned, leaving them gun shy. These quirky characters quickly claim your heart and make you smile. The storytelling keeps you riveted and rooting for this delightful couple.
