*Warning this book is intended for 18+* *May Contain Triggers* Losing the love of my life the summer before we were set to go off to college together destroyed me beyond repair. James committed suicide weeks before we were to start our lives together, leaving me broken and haunted by the ‘what ifs’ of life. There just wasn’t any way I could attend the college we chose together, and I was certain … was certain there wasn’t another option at what most would call last minute. When another University agreed to take me, I packed up my car and headed to the Sunshine state. I needed to get as far away from home as I possibly could- reinvent myself, protect my heart and concentrate on college while never allowing anyone inside the fortress I’d built around me.
But Brandon wasn’t just anyone…
Brandon wasn’t your average college boy; he’d been there, done that and had no time for childish play. His cool, confident mask hid a man with deep wounds of his own. He was in college for one reason and one reason alone. He was there for his degree and to learn the life lessons his father set out in his will for him – a condition required to gain his legacy. Women were trouble, a distraction he didn’t want or need. His bed was open for a few hours, but never anything more.
But he hadn’t met me yet.
Can two strangers with hardened hearts find peace in each other? Can Lilly prove not all women are heartless bitches? Can Brandon break through all the walls Lilly has firmly in place around herself and her heart?

Lilly has just lost James who committed suicide, he was her best friend and her first of everything including love. Lilly and James had so many dreams and plans together including going to the same college and now Lilly is lost, devastated and angry that he didn’t keep his promise that he would forever be there for her. Now Lilly has decided to go to a different college miles away from where her and James had decided to go to college. Brandon has a lot of baggage and doesn’t trust easy or let many people in but he still tries to be supportive of other’s, then he meets Lilly and they became best friends after a bad start when they first met. Brandon doesn’t trust women after the way his mother left and then treated his dad right until he died but he realises that Lilly is different. Omg this book spayed me and I felt as if I was going through everything with them as I read this story. There are so many emotional parts but you have to keep reading to see what will happen next on such a difficult subject. This book by Susan Meachen was so well written and makes you realise just how quickly life can change. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will definitely not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed see how Brandon helps Lilly overcome the loss of Jamie. He sneaks right into her heart and doesn’t let her get away. She also helps him overcome some of his demons! I did feel the ending was rushed a bit but it was still a good book.

First this book comes with a trigger warning.
It was a very well written book that discusses suicide and effect it can have on others.
It focuses on a woman who loses someone so close to her, and she then needs to learn to carry on without him and try get her life back in track.
Finding that her life plans have now also changed and adapting to this change makes it harder.
This book will draw you in with the story, and it will set you off. Remember to take breaks during. But the author did a fantastic job writing and telling this story.
A book full of heartbreak, guilt, tears and love in equal measure. Focusing on the fallout when someone you love takes their own life and trying to live your life afterwards. Lilian (FMC) has to do just that when her boyfriend James commits suicide. Popular at school but hiding dark thoughts when he dies Lilian blames herself and finds it hard to cope. A new University in a new place where no-one knows her takes her away from everyone she knows but whilst shes there she struggles to integrate with new people. Until an unlikely friendship with Brandon (another student) opens her up to a life after James. Oh boy did this book make my heart hurt. You cant help but feel for Lilian because James was her whole life growing up. They were each others world and its so sad to read. With the sadness theres also the story of hope that runs along side with it. Hope for a life after James for Lilian. Yes this book is sad but its also beautiful written from Lilian’s point of view. Her thoughts, her feelings and her guilt. I went through a spectrum of emotions reading it. Ups and downs but it was so worth it
What a phenomenal book!
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. I can tell you I cried, I read and I cried some more. As I have experienced what Lilly went through in my personal life.
Lilly is devastated and betrayed after the death of her boyfriend, James. He was her best friend and first love. He encouraged her to face her fears, now she afraid and alone and she carries the burden of his death. How can she ever trust again? Lilly has a secret pertaining to James death and she is afraid to face James parents and friends, so she decides to move away and enroll in college,
Brandon is den (father) at the same college Lilly is enrolled in. He is attracted to Lilly the first time he meets her. He knows something is wrong and wants to help Lilly, but Brandon does not trust women.
Will Lilly ever trust again? Will she reveal her secret or will the burden she carries destroy her also.
Ms. Meachen wrote with her heart and soul and poured all her emotions into this book. She did a phenomenal job on the storyline and her characters.
I recommend this book to everyone as it deals with real life events. It has changed mine. Great job Ms. Meachen. I look forward to reading more of your books.

Rating:
This was one of those books that I just couldn’t put down. It starts off sweet, then a tragedy follows. Get ready with the tissues because the poor woman’s heart just couldn’t take it. For years she shuts down all communication with any other man. It’s just too painful for her. This is a sweet, yet heart-wrenching story. It is also oddly enough – inspirational. I highly recommend it. Susan Meachen has done it again.
loved it loved the characters loved the writing style. you could really tell the author put a lot of thought into this book. Will definitly read more by Ms. Meachen
