After spending the last ten years following her late husband on campaign, the irrepressible Jane Kimball finds herself badly in need of a position to support herself. He may seem a bit aloof, but Miss Thorn’s cat Fortune approved of him. Why should Jane doubt a duke?
Alaric, Duke of Wey, commands his staff, his tenants, and the halls of Parliament, managing vast holdings in England and across the seas. Why is it he cannot manage his own daughters? As an old danger rears its head, he comes to rely on Jane’s practical nature and outspoken ways to navigate the waters of fatherhood. “Wow. I knew I’d enjoy Never Doubt a Duke, just because Regina Scott wrote it. I didn’t expect to love it. I loved the characters. I loved how she set up what will hopefully be an amazing new series. I loved how it was dramatic and fun and romantic.” — Hott Book Reviews

It’s a great one and I was delighted to read it. None of them weren’t seeking after love, they did find it! This is one particular reason I love this book so much.
I loved listening to this Regency story of a widower duke with three young daughters and a domineering mother! Mrs. Jane Kimball was an unusual governess who was the widow of a military man and had followed him on the battlefield! She was certainly not a timid docile woman! I admired the duke and how he felt responsible for the people under his care. Life changed or everyone when Mrs. Kimball became the governess with new ideas of what is suitable! I will plan to read the other books in Fortune’s Brides series. The narrator was easy to understand and did an excellent job. I received a complimentary audio copy of Never Doubt a Duke through the author, Regina Scott. This is my honest opinion.
Jane is a woman in-between. Not rich or titled, nor part of the “working” class of her time.
A widow, she has to find a place for herself. With a little help, in the form of the mysterious Meredith Thorn and her cat, Fortune.
Jane accepts a position as a governess for a widowed duke’s daughters and faces opposition from the girls, their grandmother, even the butler.
The estate itself struggles under the heavy burden of years of misfortunes. Can the duke overcome nature itself to protect and provide for his family?
Gently, sweetly, Jane and her duke defy the norm to fall in love.
A sweet story with a clever strategy for other books using Fortune and her secretive owner, Miss Thorn, to propel the series. Jane and Alaric’s story has all the right tension and romance, humor and wit, to keep you up late finishing the tale…but I will unashamedly admit that I am anticipating Miss Thorn’s tale. Enjoyed very much!
Loved it
Good story and no yukky sex.
Thank you for a wonderful book. Entertaining and hard to put down.
Plain Jane the Vicar’s daughter, widow of gallant cavalry Capt. Jimmy the third son of somebody or other. Finds employment as a governess of two children of a Duke whose wife has died but that’s OK he barely new her anyway. Read of their trails and tribulations. It’s a good read.
I am a sucker for a story in which the characters trust each other! Very enjoyable.
Loved the heroine in this book!
Really enjoyed this book.
I loved it
This story is wonderfully and incredibly Romantic.
The conventional plot line (impoverished widow forced to become a governess falls for father of her charges) is energized by strongly drawn characters about whom we come to care a great deal. The threats are plausible and resolved well.
Easy read. Like able
An enjoyable story about a Duke and his unlikely attraction to his governess. I enjoyed the characters and was happy to see them find their way to each other. I look forward to reading more books in the series.
A very pleasant read
I loved the main character and how she dealt with all of her problems.
Very interesting plot, easy reading with happy ending.
Never Doubt Love
Jane has always followed her heart. Now, the desires of her heart may not be enough.
Alaric has always followed the dictates of duty. Now, his heart wants to overrule duty.
I love a sweet and witty romance with a happy ending. Never Doubt a Duke is just such a read.
This delightful story by Regina Scott was tightly constructed and well written with the right balance of description and dialogue. The characters were great and the pace was steady. I enjoyed the dialogue which had a bit of humor but still felt genuine. I really liked both Jane and Alaric, and his two youngest daughters were definitely scene hams. For those who like a sense of the paranormal, Fortune, the cat, added just the right touch.
