Fun characters abound in Miller’s second book! The clever, funny writing is just as good as the first book, but I think Simon is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH hotter than Hayden. He’s a damaged, scarred hero in need of rescuing and those are my favorite kind!
It’s true that Lily came close to stealing the show, but I thought Emma was a strong enough character that she could handle a hilarious little sister-sidekick and still hold her own. Her dry, sarcastic asides were hilarious and their interactions are laugh-out loud funny.
LOVED the witty banter between Emma and Simon and the tension and sexy bits were smoking hot! I like how they got to know each other through her painting–I also like that she is not your usual society babe and there is more going on than the typical balls and dinners. Lily’s obsession with early detective fiction makes for good comic relief and keeps you on your toes wondering what she is going to get up to next.
This book is a keeper and goes on my favorite shelf. I’m really loving this series and can’t wait for the next book!
The second book in the Renee Ann Miller’s Infamous Lords series is sexy, romantic, and downright funny. I loved it even more than the first. Emma Trafford is a young woman raising her two younger siblings and trying to earn a living as a portraitist. When her teenage sister, Lily believes she sees their neighbor, Simon Radcliffe murder his mistress, she breaks into his house to find the evidence. Emma rushes to stop her but they are both caught in the house when Simon returns home. A tussle ensues, leaving Simon unconscious and Emma and Lily able to escape unseen, however, Lily has taken the man’s ring.
Simon is determined to get his ring back and take revenge against whoever it was who attacked him. Emma is determined to return the ring, but without identifying her sister as the thief. These goals are not as easy to achieve as either of them hopes. Not only do the secondary characters get in the way, but the two of them are slowly falling for each other. Lots of plot twists, delightful cast of characters, and a wonderful hero and heroine!
Never Deceive a Viscount is the second book in Renee Ann Miller’s Infamous Lords series. I found it to be just as delightful and charming a read as was the first in the series. She presents us with strong lead characters who have obvious chemistry between them, plenty of laugh-out-loud humorous moments, a precocious younger sister making a mistaken allegation, theft, secrets held and secrets revealed. Ms. Miller excels at lively banter, strong dialogue, and really good period descriptions. I am adding Ms. Miller to my favorite authors list and look forward to the next in series. Highly recommend this read.
Never Deceive a Viscount continues the Infamous Lords series and is another charming historical romance with witty dialogue between orphaned portraitist Emma Trafford who’s raising her brother and sister between painting session. Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler, is shunned by the ton because of his stepmother’s lies. Their romance hits a few bumps in the road (harrowing run-ins with loan sharks and a neighborhood break-in) but is true to the genre. It uses several romance tropes: the alpha male, mistaken identity, tortured hero, and jilted bride.
Never Deceive a Viscount, by Renee Ann Miller. I love it when a good book comes together. This story was a most animated romantic love story to read. From the characters to the plot and the sub-plot, everything was great! I love it when the writer can easily have me get swept away with their writing.
I absolutely love this authors talent at being able to tell a story that can so easily grab the readers attention and hold on to it for the duration of the book. The book was easy to read. I found that all the different issues that arises in the story are simple to follow and not get lost in the translation. The dialogue was real. The drama was intense, heartbreaking at times and the emotions from it all was so strong.
Emma and Simon’s characters are written wonderfully. It was as though the two personalities bounced off each other. Basically it was Emma love’s Simon and Simon loves Emma. The characters that I really did enjoy reading were Lily, Baines and Harris. Oh my gosh, Lily could give anyone grey hairs by just attending to her for ten minutes.
With her there was always murderous suspect around the corner. And then there is Baines, Simons Valet and Harris the butler who can’t even cook a lick. Their love for Simon is genuine, but they treat him like he has lost his marbles sometimes. I had a fun time giggling and laughing when the book came to their characters. Believe when you read their scenes you will love them too.
This was the most thrilling book to read. I wish that their story didn’t end, but I look forward to more awesome books from this writer. She definitely has a way to tell a story that can play like a movie in your mind as you read the book. I give this book two snaps and a, “Baines! Please summon Mrs. Flynn and bar Harris from the kitchen, even you have to drag him kicking and screaming”. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!
This enjoyable fun book is about Simon, who is a Viscount, and Emma who is a Portrait Painter. Emma and her family live next store to the house Simon’s mistress lives in. The coming and going of the house has Lily, Emma’s sister, thinking something bad is happening. One night, Lily goes to investigate the house and Emma goes in to find her, and this is where the story gets fun. I really like Simon who is kind- hearted and nothing like his reputation. Emma is a woman who loves her family and will do anything for them. The other fun-loving people in the story includes, Simon’s Butler and Valet, who are like family to him and Mrs. Flynn who is Emma’s housekeeper who is also part of Emma’s family. After reading a recent book by this author, which I enjoyed, I decided to look into her previous books, and I am very happy that I found and read this book. I can not wait to read more for this author.
I thought that this book was incredibly clever and fun. I can’t tell you how much I loved Emma, Simon and the scene stealing, Lily. Emma and Simon made an excellent couple that was easy to root for and believe in. I thought Emma was the perfect balance of strength, sassiness and heart and Simon was a totally swoon worthy hero if you like them damaged, scarred and complex (Which I so do!). The well written storyline was highly entertaining and had me surprised at how much time had past when I did manage to look up from reading. This absolutely irresistible combination of humor, emotion, drama, romance, tension and some hijinks is an excellent, not to be missed book.
Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler, carries the emotional scars from his father’s manipulative second wife and now trusts no woman. When he sends his current mistress away on holiday, Simon decides to reside at his Bloomsbury love nest for a change. What he doesn’t expect is for thieves to break into the house, assault him and steal his signet ring. Determined to find the thieves, he has no idea that his neighbors, painter Emma Trafford and her little sister Lily were actually the thieves. Now it’s a game of cat and mouse as Simon suspects Emma of the theft and will use everything in his power to make her confess.
This is the second book in the Infamous Lords series and Ms. Miller has delivered another wonderfully written story. I enjoyed it immensely and especially the outrageous things that Lily came out with. She almost stole the show. This story was a delightful change from the usual balls and teas most books of this type feature. I loved Emma’s independence and her absolute commitment to her siblings. She was strong, yet vulnerable and her attraction to Simon grew over time. Simon needed a special kind of healing and the kind and loving Emma could be just what he needs. Can he put aside his mistrust for women and accept Emma’s love for him?
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review although I was not obligated to leave a review.
This kept me laughing & eagerly anticipating each new step in the adventure & mistaken identity/actions. Love, love, loved it!!!
Emma tries to help her little sister get out of the house next door without being noticed (her sister thinks her neighbor killed a woman) and gets caught. To distract him, she kisses him while her sister hits him on the head. Next thing you know his ring is missing and he is determined to discover the owner of those electrifying lips. Surely it can’t be his bookish neighbor. The cat and mouse game continues with some great banter, misunderstandings, etc. Light fun read well worth getting.
I loved this story. It was sweet and entertaining. I will read another book by this author soon.
I really enjoyed this book.
I won a copy of this book through a giveaway. This is my honest opinion.
This was my first book by Renee Ann Miller. I could not put it down! I love it! One of my all-time favorites! Who hasn’t had to deal with a precocious, imaginative child! Lily reads fictional detective stories and thinks she’s witnessed a murder which was actually the viscount, Simon, making love with his mistress! Emma, the big sister, has to keep Lily of out trouble when she sneaks over to the viscount’s townhouse and gets Emma caught leading to a distracting kiss with Simon allowing Lily to escape. But Lily knocks Simon unconscious and takes his signet ring! Simon ships his mistress off so he can move into the townhouse and find the vixen he kissed. It was so much fun reading about Emma and Simon and watching their relationship develop!
The premise of this story was so believable and well written with characters that were fun! I smiled throughout the book. I’ve already bought another of Ms. Miller’s books! For a fun, light-hearted read, I highly, highly recommend Never Deceive A Viscount!
Never Deceive a Viscount by Renee Ann Miller is book Two in the Infamous Lords series. This is the story of Emma Trafford and Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler. I have read the previous book but feel this can be a standalone book.
Emma is the older sister taking care of her younger sister while their brother is away at school. Emma is a painter and that is how she makes extra money. Lily the younger sister likes mystery/drama type books which leads her mind to think something is going on next door. When Lily sneaks into Simon’s house to look into what is going on…Emma goes after her. Looking to distract Simon she kisses him and then runs.
Now Simon is looking for her and he thinks she took his ring. But the more times he spends with her trying to find out the truth the more he wants her.
Loved their story…Lily was so funny.
Clearly, Emma Trafford’s new neighbour is a lady killer but is the scoundrel with the scar capable of murder? This is the second book in the series but could stand very well as a standalone, however it was good to catch up with Hayden & Sophia. Simon decides to ‘go by’ the name of Simon Radcliffe whilst in Bloomsbury as he is somewhat notorious. I really enjoyed this feel good book, I was immediately drawn in with Lily’s assumption that Simon was murdering his mistress. The characters were very well fleshed & I liked both Simon & Emma but it was the secondary characters that added the icing on the cake. Lily was just delightful, then there were Baines & Harris Simon’s servants who were hilarious & finally Mrs Flynn. The story flowed really well & the pages flew over. There were misunderstandings & secrets which all added to this enchanting engrossing read.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The shine has not gone from Ms. Miller’s writing. I read her first book and loved it and this book is just as good. Ms. Miller’s voice is refreshing in today’s historical romance world. It was a fast read that I just kept saying “one more chapter”. Simon and Emma’s journey to their HEA was a bit difficult. I loved how Simon kept trying ensnare Emma but she knew his game and avoided his traps (think cat and mouse). The compassion that both of them had for others whether it be their family, friends or just a kid who needs a place to stay and work (loved Nick) really stood out in this story. I loved this book! Looking forward to the other Infamous Lords’ stories.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
