2020 OKLAHOMA ROMANCE WRITERS GUILD HEART AWARDS FINALIST IN SCORCHER ROMANCE2021 NATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN STORY TELLING FINALIST2020 MAGGIE AWARD FINALIST IN CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE“A fun read with plenty of wit, attitude, suspense, romance, and heat.” -Dana, reader From award-winning and international best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes a series of steamy contemporary medical romance … series of steamy contemporary medical romance standalone novels about life lessons that break all the rules.
Some lessons are more fun when learned the hard way…
What’s the first rule of nurse’s club? That’s right: Never date a doctor. Which Sasha Suvorin has no intention of doing anyway, since she’s a nurse at Rutherford Hospital by day and working on her master’s degree by night. Who has time for dating, much less dating someone you work with? Bad idea much?
That is, until the sexy British Dr. Caleb Thompson starts at her hospital. It also doesn’t help that he’s exactly her type with his dark hair, blue eyes, and rockin’ bod. Or that he’s not your typical arrogant and bossy surgeon. But Sasha isn’t so easily convinced, and she soon discovers Dr. Hottie has a past that puts a stop to whatever she might have been feeling before anything ever starts between them.
Unfortunately, working together means facing temptation. Every. Single. Day. Is Sasha strong enough to resist what might just be the perfect man? And if she gives in, will Cal’s past stay in the past? Sasha may be used to playing it safe, but life has a way of teaching its lessons … one way or another.

I loved these characters and storyline. Plus, the little twists and turns in the story kept me turning the pages and held my attention. She ties up all the loose ends very well, and a few times I was so scared for what would happen with this couple. I was on the edge wondering how they would resolve this! Definitely worth reading.
Another home run for Melanie A.Smith. I really enjoyed this novel. It had all the elements I love in a steamy romance. Great banter and a bonus of a beautiful friendship circle for our MC Sasha.
Cal and Sasha had instant chemistry and the story progressed in a believable pace. While there were of course obstacles, they weren’t contrived and very believable.
I highly recommend this to readers who like a steamy romance as well as some believable roadblocks as well as great female interactions. We hardly ever see those. So I say again, Brava Melanie for crafting a great romance!
Great hospital setting with lots of steamy tension and hot romance between nurse Sasha and ‘the doctor with the accent’ (swoon), Cal. This is a quick read that delivers on all my favorite romance themes and adds in what Ms. Smith is known for—suspense. I definitely recommend to anyone who loves hospital setting romances.
Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, action pact, hot and steamy, lust and passion, strength, happiness with a happily ever after. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.

The first rule of nursing is: Never date a doctor. Sasha has goals and doesn’t let anyone or anything deter her. That is until Dr. Hotness is the newest doctor in her department.
The sexual energy between Sasha and Cal is palpable from the beginning. She is fighting it and he is trying to stay professional. How long can they keep this up before the people they work with begin talking?
Melanie has done it again! This was a love at first sight, steamy read with a surprise twist. I was reading along ready for my HEA and WOAH…a twist I was not expecting and emotions ran high.
A Great Read!
5 STARS
I so enjoy a great medical romance, and this book fit the bill. This was such a well written story as are all of Melanie’s books. I loved the connection between Sasha and Caleb like it was just meant to be, ‘KISMET’. As with any relationship, there will be always ups and downs and obstacles to overcome. I highly recommend picking up this book, it will definitely keep you entertained!
Never Date A Doctor by Melanie A. Smith is an EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
3.5 cranky stars
This is one of those books you can take on holiday with you. The story line is good but could have been stronger, slightly predictable. Saying that I did enjoy the read.
When the new doctor comes to the hospital and every nurse is falling at his feet he only has eyes for one Sasha. Sasha thought she knew Caleb but ruled it out. A very quick romance started and was full on so quickly.
A jealous nurse tries to break them up by accusing Sasha of something. She nearly lost everything that she had worked so hard for.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
*insert sigh*
*insert another sigh*
I wanted to love, to even LIKE this book but I struggled, to be honest.
Mostly, because of two things.
Only Sasha has a say, and she grated on me, she really did. I can’t say WHY, and I’m more annoyed that I cannot voice WHY she got my back up and got on my nerves, but she did. And because Caleb isn’t given a voice, I very nearly dumped it, because she drove me nuts at points!
AND
First person/present tense. Even if caleb had been given a voice, with the book written this way, I would have enjoyed it a bit more, I think.
You could see the “situation” developing at the hospital, with the other nurse, coming at ay like a train wreck, and you can’t stop, but it is nice for everything to be laid out for you once in a while. There were SOME surprises though, so i enjoyed that.
I’m sorry, a short review, but I really am struggling to make sense.
I finished it, though, and I promised myself that I would give a book 3 stars if I finished it, even if I didn’t really like so.
Will I read other books in the series? Probably not, no. By this author? I’ll give Ms Smith another try, certainly.
3 stars

I had a great time reading this book. The characters had a lot going on throughout the pages and having chemistry really help the storyline moved easily from the turn of the book.

Ah… workplace gossip. The great relationship killer. Cal (the new doctor) is attracted to Sasha (a nurse studying to be a nurse-practitioner). She’s concerned about them being co-workers, but finally decides to go for it. He reminds her of Universe Guy. This was a really enjoyable book. I enjoyed seeing Cal and Sasha grow as a couple. I was heartbroken for her when they broke up over trust issues. Her friend Becca is one crazy woman (in a good way), and a great friend and co-worker. Sasha’s mother is so supportive when the poop hits the fan. This is my first book from this author, and she really delivered.

Becca and Sasha were arguing about Sasha’s perfect type of guy, Becca insisting her standards were way too high. It doesn’t matter anyway since Sasha Suvorin’s days are full working at a cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital in San Diego and her nights are busy trying to earn her master’s degree. There is just no time for dating!
Having drinks, Sasha told Becca about the first guy she ever fell for. She was 14, and she saw him at an air show. It was more than his looks that hooked her – it was how she made him feel when their eyes locked. There has been no one since then that made her feel that way. She never forgot it, and that’s how she needs to feel when she finds the right one.
At the mandatory staff meeting the next day, the two of them drag in wondering what’s going on now and were told there’s a new doc on staff. She turns around as Dr. MacDougall called for their attention – and she let out a loud gasp of recognition heard by everyone! She felt the same butterflies in her stomach as the first time she saw him at the air show 10 years ago. But he said he graduated from Cambridge 7 years ago then came to the United States – he can’t be “her” guy? Besides, the delicious Dr. Caleb “Cal” Thompson, their new British cardio thoracic surgeon, may definitely fill all the requirements for “her type”, but Rule #1 of the Nurses’ Club is: never date a doctor!
As Sasha slides the last tray in the autoclave for sterilization, Becca pops in and they chat. Sasha responds about the handsome Dr. Thompson that he’s her type, he’s hot, British, perfect, but he’s a doctor, coworker, and too old for her – and she’s happy being single. And she turns around to find him red-faced and standing behind her!
But as the days pass, the growing attraction between Sasha and Cal feels right and she decides to give him a chance. But when she comes back to work after her 3 days off, Becca and Jules tell her Dr. Thompson had a visitor – his fiancée! It’s a good thing to know this now before she made a fool of herself – right? He had no business flirting with anyone actually, so this was for the best… Will she now avoid him? How can anything that felt so right go so wrong?
This was a wonderfully sweet and heart-melting romance, a great story line, well-paced, and likable, memorable characters. Where will Sasha turn now? How can she face him ever again? Grab your copy and see where this unexpected event will lead.
A pleasant nurse/doctor romance. The book was a bit slow to start, I’d say that for the first 35%, the author dealt with the introduction. However, once the storyline began to gain momentum, it was a very pleasant, easy-to-read, quite steamy novel about Sasha and Caleb the sexy English cardiothoracic surgeon. All the characters were very well developed and described. There was a well thought out, unexpected dramatic tension point, reiterating the point that ‘’there is no fury like a …..’’. The resolution to the drama didn’t do justice to the tension and complication it created; it was over too quickly. The hurt, due to Caleb’s cowardly reaction to the drama in Sasha’s life was somewhat downplayed. There is, however, an HEA demonstrating that the forgiveness of a woman in love knows no boundaries, particularly when he is ‘the one’. The model on the cover gets 10 STARS.

The storyline was good and the simmering chemistry between Sasha and Cal kept me totally enthralled until the turn of the very last page!
Highly recommend thia book to anyone who loves a great read!
3.5 stars ****. Yep! Hospitals are a hotbed of secret relationships, mistresses, plots just like any office. Cal and Sasha have an immediate attraction when they meet. He’s a surgeon and she is a nurse in the same department. Being an intense environment, it seems everyone knows everything about you and what’s going on in your life. It is it’s own small town complete with nosey bodies, rumors, jealous and vengeful people. Well, they have a jealous nurse in their midst that will stop at nothing to get what she wants including ruining lives and careers. Interesting display of a manipulative and vengeful person. Love story, secrets and politics.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book
Love at first glance and 10 years later you think you’ve met the same person but you find out he’s only been in the States for the last 7 years. Your feelings are so strong how could you be so wrong. Find out how Sasha and Cal who now work together deal with their feelings and work place situations. Great book and author does an awesome job with the characters. You will truly enjoy this love story!!!
This book was…amazing!! Never Date a Doctor by Melanie A. Smith is an outstanding romance novel. Melanie Smith truly knows how to capture romantic drama. Sasha and Cal had great chemistry, every time they were interacting, you could sense how compatible they were together. But, just because things start off easy for their relationship doesn’t mean they don’t have to go through their own trial and tribulations. I loved the book and I might’ve just found a new favorite author!!
If you love a slow-burn romance jam-packed with emotion, you will absolutely love Never Date a Doctor. Destiny, fate, forgiveness…it’s all there. Check it out!
This super fun and very sexy read from Melanie A. Smith kept me cozy by the fire while I waited out winter weather. Her flow and style has all the ease and intelligence Smith is known for – read her Safeguarded Heart series, like now! In the first standalone novel of Smith’s Life Lessons steamy contemporary medical romance series, Cal Thompson, the hottest of all hot doctors, steals Sasha’s heart but our heroine keeps her head. I love that Sasha knows her worth and refuses to give in to catty workplace gossip, even when the scheming of her co-workers takes a serious turn. Trust me, you’ll be rooting for Cal and Sasha from word one of this standalone steamy contemporary medical romance!
Melanie is a fairly new to me author but one i am definitely glad i discovered
