A ZEBRA SHOUT FRESH NEW ROMANCE They are the infamous lords, unrepentant rogues whose bad behavior makes for good gossip among the ton. But these sexy scoundrels have stories no one knows. And it takes a special touch to reveal the true hearts behind their devilish disguises . . . Known as a brazen philanderer, Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, is almost done in by a vengeful mistress who … in by a vengeful mistress who aims a gun at a rather essential part of his anatomy—but ends up wounding his thigh instead. Recuperating in his London townhouse, Hayden is confronted by his new medical attendant. Terrific historical romance from Renee Ann Miller. Well plotted with relatable characters who are definitely of their era. I loved the heroine immediately, the hero–not so much. But both characters carry baggage from their pasts and bit by bit Ms. Miller reveals their many dimensions until I was rooting for them to overcome the obstacles that kept them apart. This was an interesting and well written story that kept me engaged right to the end. I look forward to the next book in the Infamous Lords series.
Another wonderful story from Renee Ann Miller! I just love her characters. She has a real flare for romance.
I love historical romance and have been reading more and more Victorian. Never Dare a Wicked Earl by Renee Ann Miller was a prefect read with all of the elements of a wonderful, sensual romance, and a bit of intrigue and danger. Sometimes it’s amazing to realize that women had to fight to get get into medical schools as Sophia (our heroine) had to do in this story. The is strong, intelligent, and fearless (sometimes to her detriment) and a great match for the arrogant, alpha male hero, Hayden. He has been shot(!) by a deranged ex-mistress and has run-off a number of nurses during his recovery, until Sophia is hired. What ensues is a game of wills and dares and oneupmanship which is both thrilling and hilarious at times. But each of our protagonists have wounds and must learn to trust and listen to each other. This is an easy read because the author is an excellent writer. She immerses you in the story and the time period and surrounds us with wonderful secondary characters, one of whom I hope gets his own story. I really enjoyed this book and an looking forward to the next installment.
What a fantastic debut from Renee Ann Miller! This book was so enjoyable from start to finish. The banter and chemistry between Hayden and Sophie was just lovely, and the tension throughout the book was gripping. I was so impressed by how immersive an experience the author was able to create, and how evocative the descriptions and settings were. Love it, and can’t wait to read book 2!
Hayden and Sophia are very likable people. Their relationship develops and grows in a fun way, all the while they each have some heavy past baggage. I especially liked the supportive nature of their love for one another. The epilogue was quite satisfying–many epilogues only go a brief period beyond the final chapter. This one went 9 years into the future and continued the happily ever after.
I enjoyed this story about a lord and his nurse. It ran the usual angst of two people falling in love but there was also a couple of villians. I was 60% thru before there were a few steamy love scenes. In this kind of book it is rare and unexpected. Usually I skip them, my preference,
I loved Hayden and Sophia (and also Lady Olivia) and their romance was fraught with enough delicious tension to keep me flicking the pages on my Kindle like a junkie.
The part of Miller’s writing that impressed me the most (okay, there are 2 parts) was her ability to evoke the era (or certainly what felt like a “bygone” era, to me) and also her delightful turn of phrase (GREAT similes which made me alternately smile or move to the edge of my seat). Miller does an excellent job of injecting historical fact into the story without beating the reader over the head with it.
Great sensuality and tension throughout, with lots of secondary characters to bring depth to the story and make you care what happened to the H&h.
The author also did a fantastic job engaging my sense of smell, something I don’t often experience reading books. From the seamier smells of London’s impoverished back alleys to a gourmet breakfast that made me get out of bed and ransack the kitchen at 10 o’clock at night.
This book is a Victorian adventure that will engage and satisfy all your senses.
This is a charming historical romance with witty dialogue between Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, and his nurse Sophia Camden. Their romance hits a few bumps in the road but is true to the genre. I was only taken out of the story at one point with an anarchistic word, “uptight,” which threw me into Woodstock days. I read it in one sitting.
Absolutely loved it. Thank you.
When Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, is shot by a jealous lover, Sophia Camden agrees to be his nurse while he recuperates. Hayden is an unrepentant rake, but Sophia is not intimidated. Instead she challenges Hayden at every turn and the witty banter between these two carries the book.
Ms. Miller has written a compelling and thoroughly delightful story. I loved how she teased out the back story for these two. Is Hayden really as bad and unrepentant as the gossips say? Does Sophia really want to be a dr.? This story kept my interest until the last page. I especially enjoyed the epilogue. It was a nice closure to the story.
Fans of historical romance will definitely enjoy this book.
Nice dialogue
Never Dare a Wicked Earl is book one in the Infamous Lords Series by Renee Ann Miller. This was my first time to read Miller’s work and I am glad that I did. I really liked the uniqueness of the characters. Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield is not the average hero. He is grumpy, rude and offensive at times. But I grew to love him as he showed his vulnerabilities. I thought Sophia was well written. She wants to be a female doctor in a time when women weren’t allowed. I thought Miller did a good job of portraying Sophia’s character. There are some steamy sex scenes. If I don’t want to read them I just read the dialogue. But on the whole an excellent book and a series I look forward to reading.
Known as a brazen philanderer, Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, is almost done in by Adele Fontaine, a vengeful mistress who aims a gun at a rather essential part of his anatomy—but ends up wounding his thigh instead. Recuperating in his London townhouse, Hayden is confronted by his new medical attendant. Sophia Camden intrigues him, for behind her starched uniform is an enticing beauty better suited for bedding than dispensing salves and changing bandages. Unshaken by his arrogance, not to mention impropriety, Sophia offers Hayden a dare: allow her ten days to prove her competency. If she resigns in exasperation like her two predecessors, she will be beholden to this wicked seducer. So a battle of wills begins.
I enjoyed this debut novel which featured the well used trope of disliking each other but physically attracted also the H & h having guilt that they need to overcome. The characters are very well developed I loved Hayden, a very attractive man with also a very wicked sense of humour, his demeanour of a rogue hid a man with much greater depths & also a deep seated guilt. Sophia is a very strong woman who would love to become a doctor. The physical attraction between the pair is obvious from the start but it is their verbal spars which is so very entertaining. Throw in a vengeful former mistress & of course Celia & Lady Julia for a book I found hard to put down
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This was a really enjoyable read with the Earl of Westfield, Hayden Milton, and his nurse Sophia Camden. I enjoyed Renee Ann Miller’s ability to not only engage me with strong characters, but enjoyable banter, and delightful period details. Well done and worth a read! (But make sure you set aside enough time to read it all at once, because you won’t want to put it down!)
What a thoroughly delightful read. First in a series. Great chemistry between the H and h who are both strong characters. Lively banter. Wonderful period descriptions and dialogue. Some intrigue. Danger. Misassumptions and secrets. Great humorous moments with Lady Olivia, who is actually a dog. Very happy with my decision to read. Highly recommend.
Enjoyable
