Sometimes, the end is only the beginning. Emmy was born a dweller and she expected to die as a dweller … until Willa changed everything. Now she has no idea of her path, and she certainly wasn’t prepared for what would happen after her death. Caught in the middle of a war that threatened to prove much more significant than anyone had ever expected, there is only one person who can help her … … can help her … but his terms are steep.
Cyrus was born out of necessity: a being of light, brought to life with a singular purpose. Time has changed him and the recent events have unsettled him … but a certain transformed dweller is about to do much worse than that. She is about to turn his existence upside down.
Topia is giving them no choice: they survive together, or the war is lost.
This is a NOVELLA, over 30,000 words. Book 4.5 of 5 in the Curse of the Gods Series

I loved reading Emmy’s journey when she became a goddess. I also loved seeing her and Cyrus forging they’re bond. I read this novella after I finished the series, so it was exciting getting that extra information!
Emmy and Cyrus developing kinda the same relationship that Willa has with her guys wasn’t that much to my liking. I feel like it cheapens and makes what Willa has with her Abcurses less special.
And even though I like Emmy and Cyrus together, having to read about them having sex kinda made me a little uncomfortable.
However, the fact that Willa turned her BFF and sister into a literal god with a power never before seen in Topia was crazy cool. Also, Pica’s antics were absolutely hilarious!
A Novella to answer questions about the relationship between Emma and the Neutral god
This novella fits between books four and five of the Curse of the Gods series. It ties up some questions about the relationship between Emma and the Neutral god.
It’s written in the same direct, funny style as the rest of the series. I’m only reading it now, several weeks after finishing the rest of the series, because I hadn’t realised it existed earlier.

I absolutely loved this novella! I sometimes skip over novellas when reading a series and stick with the core books, but I was so ingrained in this story that I picked this one up. I am so glad that I did!
This novella focuses on Emmy and Cyrus and I could not have been more thrilled! Emmy and Cyrus are two characters that I was so curious to know more about on a deeper level during the first four books on the series. I loved that this novella was written in dual POV, switching from Emmy to Cyrus throughout the story. I loved getting in their heads. It really brings the character development up a notch.
I loved the romance between them. Their coming together was the central part of the story and I loved every moment. There is a hate-to-love vibe going on in the beginning, at least from Emmy’s side of things. The romance was built up from their interactions in the previous book. It didn’t take long for it to take root, but that still didn’t make it feel too rushed. Yes, I would have loved it if they had been building up the relationship longer from even earlier books in the series, but it is still satisfying nonetheless. I totally ship Cyrus and Emmy as a couple and I can’t wait to see what becomes of them in the final book!
This novella takes place during the last parts of book four and then it goes beyond the end of book four. While this story is focused on Emmy and Cyrus, we do get to spend a little time with Willa and her Abcurses. I loved that this novella was similar to the other books in the series with regard to humor. There were a couple of scenes in the book that literally had me laughing out loud. I very much enjoy that in a book.
Overall, I would definitely recommend reading this novella before starting the final book in the series. There is a lot of pertinent information for the development of the plot and the relationship between Cyrus and Emmy is a joy to read. This novella is definitely an asset to the series!
I will be honest, I waited to finish the Curse of the Gods series until Neutral and Pain were on audio, since I don’t get to read a lot and I can get through books faster by listening with my commute to and from work. I am so glad I did, even though it was torture.
I loved Emmy from the beginning and Cyrus was the character people couldn’t help but love even if he was an ahole. I loved seeing Emmy figure out her powers, finally getting to explore her feelings with Cyrus, and getting to see her perspective on everything in Topia and in regards to the war between the creator and Willa. I love her snark and her compassion and loved what goddess she became.
I highly recommend reading this book, even if its a novella and not one of the main 5 books. It helps paint a more complete picture and I love Emmy and Cyrus together. So much heat but love there. I am going to miss these characters so much
Neutral by Jane Washington and Jaymin Eve a five-star read that you can’t remain Neutral reading. This is a novella that falls between books 4 and five and it gives us the story of Neutral god Cyrus and Emmy the dweller sister of Willa at least she was until it all ended and Willa brought her back, this is a fascinating look from the other side of the story, it was so nice to hear from Emmy, we get to know her so much better in this novella. That being said it was so lovely to see the other side of Cyrus, someone I know I only saw in a different light till this novella. Thank you both for giving us this amazing story.
Awesome! What a fabulous novella to hold us over until Pain. I loved reading Emmy and Cyrus’s story after Strength. You learned a lot about what is going on in Topia from their prospective. An amazing addition to the Curse of the Gods series.
I’m so glad we got to see Emmy have her own little story. I always enjoyed her in the other books. She is fierce and caring, and I liked seeing both her and Neutral thrown off their game a little bit. I liked the way she challenged Neutral, and how they pushed each other to grow. The Curse of the Gods series is one of my favorites and I’m looking forward to the next book!
this is my new favorite series!
