SPECIAL 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION —THE MOST IMPORTANT AND INFLUENTIAL SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL OF THE PAST TWO DECADES Twenty years ago, it was as if someone turned on a light. The future blazed into existence with each deliberate word that William Gibson laid down. The winner of Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards, Neuromancer didn’t just explode onto the science fiction scene—it permeated into … into the collective consciousness, culture, science, and technology. Today, there is only one science fiction masterpiece to thank for the term “cyberpunk,” for easing the way into the information age and Internet society. Neuromancer’s virtual reality has become real. And yet, William Gibson’s gritty, sophisticated vision still manages to inspire the minds that lead mankind ever further into the future.

The first time I read this book I didn’t quite get it. It is a demanding book for the reader as Gibson builds a world that is completely different from anything you’ve seen before. I felt that I had missed something since the book is universally applauded as a one of Science Fiction’s must read books. I’m really glad I gave it a second chance and …
For a moment, I hesitated giving Neuromancer five stars, but then I realized that I read very few books twice, and upon finishing Neuromancer for the second time today, it absolutely must be read by anyone who enjoys speculative fiction or science fiction.
I first read Neuromancer five or six years ago, and I didn’t understand a single thing in …
Novel zero for what became known as the Cyberpunk movement. The sheer amount of critical verbiage heaped upon this book over the years has somewhat obscured the fact that it is, in essence, a hugely enjoyable, fast-paced, future-crime thriller (with ninjas). You do need to engage your brain to fully appreciate Gibson’s vision of a net-dominated …
It might not seem as visionary now in 2018, but take into account that when it was written, the internet as we know it didn’t exist. The list of books, films, etc that were influenced by this book would be too long to write. A must read.
A contemporary classic! This book sets the tone for a generation of authors to follow. And it holds up well 30+ years later. A must read.
This is the well-known “original archetypal cyberpunk work”. Published in 1984, It was at the time a wild read. Yet even today, although being so much closer to reality, it is still a great and original read.
The book is short and packed with careful attention required. Not a fast read, but an enjoyable one. If you absolutely require the …
I read the first 30 or so pages. It has great settings building, along with sudden scene transitions, tech descriptions etc. It has good concept and theme.
A drug addicted “cowboy” (hacker) is hired by a mysterious benefactor to penetrate the defenses of a rogue AI.
Wow. One of the most complex and completely original books I’ve ever read. Serious genre fans have already read it — all others should put it on their “to read” list.”
Gibson’s ability to write poetry into a narrative is uncanny.
What can I say that hasn’t been said already. The OG. Love this book.
What can I say? It’s high-tech and literary at the same time, a novel that established a genre. A must-read, a classic.
One of my favourite science fiction novels. With Neuromancer, William Gibson pretty much invented Cyberpunk. Decades after its publication, the book still stands as the best example of the genre. The story is told in a bold, hyperkinetic style, which takes some getting used to. Fortunately, the plot is fairly straightforward, a kind of …
The book that revitalized science fiction and introduced cyberpunk. A classic of the genre.
The gateway drug to Cyberpunk genre
Great sci-fi
Early and perhaps the best of Gibson’s “cyberpunk” tales. If you have never read a William Gibson book, this is an excellent choice for a first reading of this author. In my opinion, Gibson’s writing has now become so extremely self-referential, that it is almost impossible for the uninitiated to understand.
One of the best writers of Sci-Fi
Can’t go wrong picking up one of his works
I read this years ago, but the awesome world-building is still in my mind. The father of Cyberpunk. Gibson just invented this new genre all by himself!
As the original cyberspace novel, it didn’t disappoint. Visionary. The first Gibson book I ever read was “Pattern Recognition”, which is his best, imho. After reading a few more I went back to his first big success – Neuromancer – and as as I said, it didn’t disappoint. Smart, heady writing. Thank you, Bill. Can I call you Bill?
Classic!
