It’s going to be the road trip from hell.An embarrassing incident at a corporate dinner party has Josh Hawthorne scrambling to find a replacement android companion for his sociopath of a boss. Unfortunately, that model has been discontinued and the only way to find a new one is to scavenge the long-abandoned factories of the derelict Eastern Badlands. To get there and back safely, he needs help, … needs help, and he finds it in the sketchiest part of Mission City.
Electronics dealer Madeline Atwood jumps at the chance to help Josh and take enough of his money to start her life over. His boss being the man responsible for her mother’s death gives her the chance to exact some very expensive payback, all the better to tweak the nose of his stuffy assistant.
But once on the road, there’s only so much they can argue over whose turn it is to drive. Our hero is in need of spare parts for an android and the only one who can help him is our heroine. Too bad our heroine doesn’t care for his boss…
This is an action packed SF romance story. The story is well written and easy to follow, with a face paced plot which has you burning through the pages. The characters are also well developed and fit together nicely, kind of an opposites attract thing. I really enjoyed the pace of the story and the character interactions. Overall, it made for a very pleasant weekend read.
Highly recommended.

This is a different type of sci-fi book than I usually read and it’s by an author I’ve never read before. I liked how she wrote this story sending the two main characters on a dangerous adventure. There’s nice world building and nicely written characters.

I loved this book! It reminded me of a favorite sci-fi movie called Cherry 2000 with Melanie Griffith. Wow. I don’t know how many times I watched it but everytime I couldn’t get over how romantic it was to me. This storyline has almost the same plot so it’s no wonder that I like it so much! Nicely done!

Neon Vice is a fun science fiction romance with lots of attention given to its two main characters. The tension between them is deliciously thick. The set-up, which sees them leaving the city together to venture into a dangerous wasteland in search of rare android parts, gives them plenty of time to build on their conflicted emotions.
I’m a sucker for this sort of soft sci-fi where the world is futuristic and well thought out but world building isn’t so laborious that the story gets weighed down needlessly. In fact, Neon Vice is a quick read—almost too quick—not because the story feels rushed but because I would like to live in it for longer. The best I can do, though, is move on to this author’s other works and hope I find the same sort of page turner I found in this one. Anyone who is a fan of this genre should give this one a try.
