Valentine Silverton has enjoyed comfort and luxury his entire life. Then, all at once, the family fortune vanishes, and he’s a pauper. The only recourse he has is to find a wealthy heiress. But he doesn’t want to just find just any wealthy heiress. He wants to find one he can fall in love with. Since there are no suitable prospects in his area, he takes his friend’s advice and becomes a … mail-order husband.
Nelly Larson grew up on a farm, and she loves everything about it. She loves the life so much, in fact, that she got her own homestead. The last thing she wants is to be strapped to one of the men in town who think her place is in the kitchen. She’s going to keep her independence, and keeping her independence will require her to avoid marriage at all costs.
Nelly’s sisters, however, can’t believe Nelly will truly be happy if she doesn’t get married. Romance, after all, is one of life’s most wonderful experiences. When they come upon Valentine’s ad, they know he’ll be perfect for her. So they take matters into their own hands and answer his ad on Nelly’s behalf.
Valentine thinks Nelly is the one answering his ad, and at once, he’s intrigued by her. He has no idea what a homestead is, but he assumes that a young woman who owns land and runs her own business must have lots of money. Excited, he runs off to Omaha to marry her.
The day comes when the two meet, and it’s at that time they realize they’ve been set up. Since Valentine has no money, he can’t leave Omaha. He has to marry Nelly. Even if she doesn’t have much, she has a place to live and food to eat. In exchange for marriage, he promises Nelly he won’t hinder her independence. Thankfully, she agrees to marry him.
But Valentine kind of likes Nelly, and he’s determined to show her that some things are worth giving up total independence for…and love just happens to be one of them.

A twist on the mail order genre.
Nelly just wants to live her life the way she wants, not the way everyone else does. She’s a strong woman who just wants to own her own farm and run it, by herself. But even in the late 1800’s it’s just not done. Her younger sisters, just want her to be happy and they think they’ve come up with the perfect plan. Answering a mail-order husband letter from the paper in Boston.
Valentine has been left to make something of himself after his father lost everything in the stock market. When a friend suggests he write the ad, he does it, hoping to avoid a loveless marriage. What he finds is anything but.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it had a twist in it that I hadn’t read before. For once, it wasn’t the man being surprised by a wife!

A good concept. Instead of a bride signing up for an advertisement, it is now a man looking for a woman. In the hope of a life as he is used to as an son of an earl, Valentine sets up an advertisement to present himself as a groom. If he gets a response from Nelly who has his own business, own land and animals, he already sees himself as a landlord. What he doesn’t know is that Nelly’s sisters have written on her behalf to help her find a man who can help her on her farm.
I think it’s great that Valentine comes from a well-to-do family and marries a woman from the country. Everything that happens to him is what he is not used to. With 2 suitcases full of beautiful suits, he soon realizes that this is not the clothing you can work with. Hilarious moments when he learns what working on land entails. That Nelly accepts him in who and what he is speaks for her character. Eventually, she continues to work the land she loves and Valentine is more active in and around the house. Great described as the scroll patterns shift here. Recommended

A very quick yet highly entertaining journey filled with interesting charters, witty banter and thrilling passion… a great read!
The first book in the Husbands for the Larson Sisters series a book I enjoyed reading. A good western romance with Nelly Larson who owns her own farm, and Valentine Silverton who puts out an ad to be a mail-order husband. Nelly would rather work the farm than cook and sew, and Val would rather cook and clean making this a perfect couple for each other. I want to read the next book. June 1893 “Attractive twenty-five year old male, educated in etiquette, seeks female of similar age to marry. She must own business or land. If interested, contact Valentine Silverton.” All Nellie’s sisters thought this would be perfect for their older sibling Nellie, who had set up her own homestead. She needed a husband even though she said she did not.
Valentine was from Boston and his family had just lost their fortune. When his friend suggested he run an ad for a mail order husband, he thought it was a good idea, but he needed to get out of Boston.
I have to say Val seemed to be the most unlikely person for Nellie, who dressed like a man and really took care of her place.
What would happen when Val landed on Nellie’s doorstep since she answered his ad? Ad? What ad? Oh those sisters are going to be in trouble!
A delightful story with several twist and turns that you will love reading until the end! Looking forward to more! i read this through Booksprout
Val was naive to assume Nelly was wealthy with servants and employees because she had her own homestead. He should have written and asked more questions before traveling to her. Nelly should have brought up Seth’s harassment and maybe her mother and sisters would have gotten off her back about getting married. Val is a gentleman and he learns what his strengths are to help Nelly around the farm. There were plenty of funny moments in this historical romance.

The well written storyline and the well created characters made this book a very enjoyable read! This was the first book that I have read by this author and it definitely will not be the last!
A mail-order husband very interesting.
When I get a chance to read one of Ms. Nordin’s books it is always a good day for me. An ad in a paper will bring Valentine Silverton and Nelly Larson together with of course a bit of help from some sisters. Now Valentine is under some very wrong impressions and it was fun reading what happens. The book was fun, the characters were great very realistic the sisters were a real pain in the?, and the plot was great. You will love the twists in this one it really was a good book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Nelly and Valentine are brought together when her meddlesome sisters think she needs a husband. What she doesn’t expect is how right Val seem to fit into her life. He’s a city boy but learning more every day.
Will love find its way to them? Sweet and heart warming strangers becoming more.

I love Ruth Ann Nordin’s stories!! Val and Nelly are from different worlds but they fit together perfectly. There is 3 meddling sisters, conflict and romance. What a great story!!
4.5 stars! Nelly is a tenacious young woman. She has a homestead that she has run on her own. Val is a city boy from a prestigious family and hasn’t a clue what he’s walking into. I liked that he let Nelly set the pace of their relationship. He tried his hardest learning all the new things that came with homestead life. He meets each challenge with a good attitude. My favorite thing about both of them is that they didn’t define themselves by societies standards. I loved getting to see Tom and Jessica again. Tom is still that protective loving father that supports his unconventional daughter one hundred percent. (less)
