If you thought death was the end…you’d be dead wrong.Life was barely manageable after my mom was murdered three years ago. I wasn’t sure what my purpose was anymore. But then on my twenty-first birthday, I drank a little too much and fell from the roof of my nine-story apartment building.I died. Then… I un-died.Enter Hayden, my really bossy (and hot) guardian angel whose duty is to train me … is to train me to be the next “Soldier of Light.”
Sound fun? Well, it’s not. I save dead people, helping them move on to the World of Light. And to make matters even worse, they are all troubled souls stuck in the Dark Realm with the devil and his army of demonic creatures. They roam my city’s streets at night, waiting for me to screw up.
The Afterlife is one of Death’s best kept secrets, and I’m living proof. I’m pretty sure I’m the wrong person for this job, despite what Hayden thinks. Guess I’m stuck saving the dead.
“Paranormal elements, action, drama, friendship, struggles, mystery, life and death, romance….all put together nicely, and driven by a strong female MC.”
“An absolute must-read for fans of novels such as “Hush, Hush,” and “Twilight.”

Negative Zero: Soldier of Light Chronicles Book One by Ireland Gill is a very wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series written by a brand new author for me to read. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.

In a simple sense Negative Zero is a novel that focuses on good and evil. But, instead of focusing on the very black and white nature of the concepts, it goes into the shades of grey that exist between the two. Not only does this come through in the brilliant fantasy plot, it is also evident in her characters – the ‘good’ characters still have their flaws and their demons, and the ‘evil’ characters sometimes seem to have justification. It is safe to say that Ireland Gill has created a YA novel that is so different to all the others I have read before, because she has taken a 3-Dimensional approach to her plot lines and characters.
I loved the afterlife setting of the novel, and the idea that when you die on Earth, you may have another life to live elsewhere. Definitely a novel that I would recommend to all fantasy fiction lovers, adult or teenager.
It is hard to believe that ‘Negative Zero’ is Ireland Gill’s debut novel, as it was so accomplished. On reading her author bio, I discovered that she had spent a decade creating her fantasy world, and her level of dedication really shows. She really does transport the reader to the afterlife with captivating writing, allowing you to see things from the character’s perspective. Her descriptions are so clear and vivid, and her characters are so ‘real’, with complex emotions and eternal struggles.
There is darkness and there is light, just as there is good as there is evil, which our strong female lead Evika, must get to grips with in the afterlife, if she is to fulfil her role as Soldier of Light. But, as she learns about her task of saving troubled souls, she also learns secrets from her past, and that things are rarely what they seem. Will Evika thrive or will she be torn apart by all the things she though she knew.
I have to say I saw the cover which is pretty cool so I read the blurb and knew I had to read this book and boy am I glad I did cause it was awesome! Well written I adore Evika and her guardian angel Hayden and their searing hot chemistry! The author has done a fantastic job with the world building and the storyline just grabs you from the start with its action, drama, mystery, life and death and romance and I cannot wait to read more in this series!
Oh my gosh! This book was freaking fantastic. Gill has a way of completely drawing you into Evika’s world, as if you were there with her, watching everything happen. Evika is an amazing heroine, even though she’s far from perfect. I personally think thats what makes her both likeable and relatable. And Hayden, her sexy guardian Angel, is a dream. Their chemistry is off the charts! I love their snarky banter. The plot is excellent, in fact, the entire book was extremely well written. This is my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last! I am absolutely obsessed with this series, and I cannot wait to see how Evika’s journey continues. This is urban fantasy at its finest!

This was a new and interesting take on the concept of the devil and hell verses angels and heaven. This method of salvation is really intriguing. The MC was very relatable to me and felt genuine. I loved the interaction between her and Hayden. I sympathized with Evika a lot. This is an extraordinary situation and I would be spitting nails, too, if people weren’t being upfront with me.
Overall, this was well written and well paced. There were a few consistent errors throughout the book that were a little distracting but nothing big. Nothing horrible enough to lose a five star rating. Interested to see where this goes.
I really enjoyed this book. I listened via audible. The storyline is very well written and I loved the characters. They are well developed. The storyline kept me pulled in throughout the book. I’m looking forward to reading the next book to see where things go. I would recommend reading.

I’ve always loved stories which are contain angels and demons. Yeah, they are my weak points. First of all, it was a great made up story, I really enjoyed reading it. The protagonists was sometimes a bit annoying but that’s cool. Her “angel” was hottie and charmy. It was interesting that she died and yeah they just training her to fill a duty.
It had many action-packed line which I found really entertaining!
It deserves from me a 4.5 star. 🙂
This is the 1st book I’ve read written by Ireland Gill; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

List I’m a world of hurt and pain on the anniversary of her mother’s death and also her 21st birthday Evika goes out drinking with her friends and they have an altercation. Evika goes home and drinks some more climbing on the roof she slips and dies. Meeting her guardian angel and learning that she is no ordinary human but in fact a part of God’s plan. She’s like a bucking bronco fighting everything and everyone because she doesn’t trust or believe in anyone. She slowly begins accepting what she has been told. Hayden her angel is there to train her and help her in her assignment from above. Heart aching and heart pounding action. Lots of emotions and you come to feel them all. A book worth reading and taking your time to absorb. Received ARC copy and this is my honest opinion.
Interesting first book full of action, plot and hints of romance. I received an ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was incredible. Evika was just a normal 21 year old with a lifetime of grief and loneliness surrounding her since she lost her mother. One night, one big mistake and now her life was going a totally different direction. Hayden, her guardian angel, is her constant calm to her storm. Together they are fated to help poor lost souls into the light. Problem is, most of them have done extremely evil acts against other people and Evika is now having to deal with their sins in order to help them move on. This book was exciting from the first page and I could not put it down!!!

Negative Zero by Ireland Gill is the first book in the Soldier Of Light Chronicles.
I really enjoyed the storyline and although I struggled a bit liking the female lead at first, I ended up loving how her character grew as the story progressed. Looking forward to more in this series!
Snarky heroine
Hot guy with wings
Birthright
A mission to accomplish for the good of humanity
Yep this book is right on point. I truly enjoyed getting to know these characters. They wiggled into my heart and easily became some of my book besties. I can not wait to see what happens when the story really starts to rev up.
This was a great redemption story and start to the Soldier of Light Chronicles! After her mother’s death three years ago, Evika has lost her purpose in life and still isn’t sure how to keep continuing on. On her twenty first birthday, she drinks a little too much, falls out if her nine story apartment window, and dies. Hayden, her guardian angel, brings her back to life months later to become the next soldier of light. Together, Hayden and Evika are supposed to free seekers, souls that are imprisoned to Alysto (the devil), that are still evil. This book has an unique and interesting twist of the afterlife, god, heaven, the devil, and hell. I liked that she didn’t automatically accept her new role and that she struggled with it as her journey progressed and she starts seeing things that she never had a desire to see. Evika is selfish and stubborn, but throughout her new life, she finds purpose, more about her family history, and self discovery.
J did a really good job with this narration. I liked the different voices that she used for each character and spoke at a steady pace.

This was a very cool, unique paranormal story. Evika, a girl full of pain, dies due to a bad decision on her part. Now she is seeing the man from her dreams. His name is Hayden and he is her guardian angel. Quickly he tells Evika how she is special and why she was brought back to life. She has a supernatural job to do. A job that runs in her family. Soon she is discovering family secrets and what she thought she knew about her life is actually the opposite. As she tries to deal with her life changing drastically and having a big burden on her now, she is also still the young woman who is grieving the mother she knew. This writers style and the narrator went wonderfully together. I felt Evika’s pain the whole way through. Don’t worry this isn’t a story to just break the listener/reader. There is hope in this book and a lesson that we never know what life truly has in store for us. And talk about a hunky angel! Where can we get a Hayden?! The attraction between Evika and Hayden is electric. Is she destined to follow in her father’s footsteps? I can’t wait for the next book to be released!
I watched the book trailer and I thought to myself.. “I must get my hands on this book!” The story intrigued me from the beginning till the end. Evika struggles daily. I followed Evika throughout her journey in the story and at times I thought she was a little selfish but I feel like that feeling is part of her journey…Of her discovering her TRUE self. Luka is my fave character. He just seems like we could be best friends. I hope to see more of him in the future.
Audio:
I felt like the narrator, Elizabeth Anderson did a fabulous job portraying Evika. I felt like she was Evika. Her voice was perfect. She portrayed the male characters well too. Five stars.
If you have an interest in fantasy fiction, I urge you to read Negative Zero by Ireland Gill, and prepare yourself for something completely different, dare I say innovative. The afterlife is a complete mystery to all of us, none of us can know how it will be (if it even will be), until we get there. Ireland Gill has used “death’s best kept secret’ to write a novel that really did keep be gripped until the final page, so interesting and engrossing was her plot and characters.
Evika Stormer is dead, but that isn’t the end for her. The afterlife has a need for her as a Soldier of Light. She is tasked with saving the souls held in the Dark Realm by the Devil. In this role, she will end up question everything she thought she knew about the afterlife, and about good and evil – things in death are often as they are in life, not all that they seem.
I so enjoyed this book from start to finish, and would love to enter Ireland Gill’s fantasy world again soon.
Negative Zero by Ireland Gill is the very definition of a page-turner. I finished this YA belter in jut one day, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next in her afterlife series. It was really well-written, and so addictive that once one chapter was finished, I had to go straight onto the next. Gill’s characters were so well-developed too, particularly Evika and Hayden, I found myself really caring what happened to them.
Evika has died on earth, but her time in the afterlife is just beginning, which starts with her meeting Hayden, her Guardian Angel. He tells her that she is to be saver of souls as a Soldier of Light. How will Evika take to her new role, and how will Lucifer himself throw obstacles in her way? This was a fantasy novel that had everything I look for in a book – tension, excitement, and a twist that knocked my socks off.
