If you thought death was the end…you’d be dead wrong.Life was barely manageable after my mom was murdered three years ago. I wasn’t sure what my purpose was anymore. But then on my twenty-first birthday, I drank a little too much and fell from the roof of my nine-story apartment building.I died. Then… I un-died.Enter Hayden, my really bossy (and hot) guardian angel whose duty is to train me … is to train me to be the next “Soldier of Light.”
Sound fun? Well, it’s not. I save dead people, helping them move on to the World of Light. And to make matters even worse, they are all troubled souls stuck in the Dark Realm with the devil and his army of demonic creatures. They roam my city’s streets at night, waiting for me to screw up.
The Afterlife is one of Death’s best kept secrets, and I’m living proof. I’m pretty sure I’m the wrong person for this job, despite what Hayden thinks. Guess I’m stuck saving the dead.
“Paranormal elements, action, drama, friendship, struggles, mystery, life and death, romance….all put together nicely, and driven by a strong female MC.”
“An absolute must-read for fans of novels such as “Hush, Hush,” and “Twilight.”

Ireland Gill has given us a great cast of characters that mesh so well. The book is so much fun to read with a new spin on the age old question on what happens after death. I was through this book way too quickly and now I need more. I can’t wait for the next in the series. Evika is a character who’s not dealing well with her own “close call” and cannot keep her mind on the business at hand because Ms. Gill has thrown in an incredibly handsome distraction for her main character. Everything always seems almost wrapped up when new issues arise. I loved this book and can’t wait for number 2!
Young Adult/Teen Fiction lost me a long time ago, around about the time the Twilight Saga, and hundreds of similar book hit the shelves. It had all become so predictable, with one storyline being rehashed in dozens of books. But, I’m happy to say that YA fiction has found be again, thanks to Ireland Gill, and her great fantasy novel ‘Negative Zero’. Her unique plot line, set in the afterlife had me gripped from start to finish, and had everything from action to peril, romance and uncertainty, with characters that I actually felt invested in, both the good and the evil. The pacing of the novel was great and the descriptions really set the eerie and other-worldly scenes,
If you have lost an appreciation for Teen Fantasy novels, get it back with this amazing book from Ireland Gill, it was a real joy to read. I already have the second in the series ‘Absolute Zero’ on my bookshelf.
What a fascinating world of angels and demons Ireland Gill has created! I really enjoyed this story of overcoming/accepting grief, and I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
