She is Nefertiti—beautiful and revered. With her husband, Akhenaten, she rules over Egypt, the most affluent, formidable, sophisticated empire in the ancient world. But an epic power struggle is afoot, brought on by the royal couple’s inauguration of an enlightened new religion and the construction of a magnificent new capital. The priests are stunned by the abrupt forfeiture of their traditional … traditional wealth and influence; the people resent the loss of their gods—and the army is enraged by the growing turbulence around them. Then, just days before the festival that will celebrate the new capital, Nefertiti vanishes.
Rahotep, the youngest chief detective in the Thebes division, has earned a reputation for his unorthodox yet effective methods. Entrusted by great Akhenaten himself with a most secret investigation, Rahotep has but ten days to find the missing Queen. If he succeeds, he will bask in the warmth of Akhenaten’s favor. But if Rahotep fails, he and his entire family will die.

Her characters and beautiful prose get me every single time!
Told by Mutnodjmet, the younger of the half-sisters, this is the story of how the 15-year-old Nefertiti becomes not only Queen of Egypt but Pharaoh, reigning as co-regent with her husband Amunhotep IV. Both girls have been raised in a powerful family and are the nieces of Queen Tiye – wife of Amunhotep III – referred to as the Elder. Nefertiti is …
Very enjoyable
I can never read any of these books in more than one sitting. I will open the book and I won’t put it down until I finish.
Truly got wrapped up in the story. I have fairly god knowledge of ancient Egypt, and felt the author captured the feel of the times perfectly. The descriptions of people and places were excellent. The story was woven with care and was fast-paced. Would recommend this to anyone interested in this time period of Egyptian history.
I loved it.
Michelle Moran’s first novel, and worthy of all the success it’s had. It draws you into the intimate inner circle of Egypt’s royal family, making you feel as though you’re eavesdropping from behind a marble column. Couldn’t recommend it more.
I couldn’t get into it so didn’t finish it
Another wonderful book by Moran (but there hasn’t been a bad one yet that I’ve read). The life of the Egyptian Queen wasn’t easy as seen in this book. From her early life on Nefertiti has fought for what she believed in whether it was considered right or wrong.
I loved this book! The characters were rich and colorful. The author wrote in such a way as to put you right in the thick of things! I highly recommend this book and the author!
Loved this whole series. I call it historical fiction PLUS. Great read.
A wonderful look at the rulers of the time. Nefertiti is such an ambitous and interesting character. I highly recommend this book.
Couldn’t put it down!
Although this book is a lot of speculation, it is well researched. It really brings the life of ancient Egyptian royalty into perspective, and there is just about as much intrigue as Game of Thrones!
I enjoyed the realistic view of what life was like in ancient egypt
An interesting look at ancient Egypt, but the characters seem stilted and unrealistic.
I have always liked Egyptian history and this story about Nefertiti could have happened this way! I really enjoyed it!
This book was hard to put down. Loved the descriptions of the over the top lavish lifestyles of the royals.
I liked the history that I learned in this book. It is very believable historical fiction.
Fabulous. Held me to the end, couldn’t put it down. If you love history you will love this book. Follow it up with The Heretic Queen, also fabulous
