She is Nefertiti—beautiful and revered. With her husband, Akhenaten, she rules over Egypt, the most affluent, formidable, sophisticated empire in the ancient world. But an epic power struggle is afoot, brought on by the royal couple’s inauguration of an enlightened new religion and the construction of a magnificent new capital. The priests are stunned by the abrupt forfeiture of their traditional … traditional wealth and influence; the people resent the loss of their gods—and the army is enraged by the growing turbulence around them. Then, just days before the festival that will celebrate the new capital, Nefertiti vanishes.
Rahotep, the youngest chief detective in the Thebes division, has earned a reputation for his unorthodox yet effective methods. Entrusted by great Akhenaten himself with a most secret investigation, Rahotep has but ten days to find the missing Queen. If he succeeds, he will bask in the warmth of Akhenaten’s favor. But if Rahotep fails, he and his entire family will die.

This book was so well written I felt I was in the time period. Nefertiti is fascinating and this book shows what it must have been like for those living in the times where anything you do can result in your death and the death of your family. Power and the way that power is handled can change in the blink of an eye. Great mystery read with …
For starters, I’m no Egyptologist. Nor am I an avid reader of ancient history. So I can’t vouch for the authenticity of Drake’s re-creation of the time period or the adherence to historical facts about dates/people. That said, this version of Egypt’s 18th dynasty felt true.
Drake does a fabulous job of explaining the new religion and the …
This was such a great book, it is fiction, therefore not much of it is based on historical fact.
Two sisters who share similar ideas of how their lives will be lived, only to have others decide their fate.
Great read!
This historical fiction novel on Nefertiti reawakened my interest in the Egyptian monarchy. Michelle Moran tells the story through the eyes of Nefertiti’s sister-Mutnodjmet-as she tells of her family’s climb to greatness through the marriage of her sister to King Amunhotep. The royal power couple start a new religion dedicated to only one god …
OK. This is probably one of my all-time favorite reads. Told from Nefertiti’s sister point of view, Michelle Moran takes you back to ancient Egypt during the rein of Akhenaten. I am impressed with the detail and work Moran put into this novel, and honestly all of her novels. Addicting. Her novels are incredibly addicting and I cannot wait to own …
This book is a masterpiece! Loved reading about Nefertiti.
The author never fails to bring history to life with every book. Although historical figures, the characters really come to life…bringing elements of romance and love and all other emotions. Highly recommended…
A remarkable book about a remarkable woman!
This is a brilliant rendition of the world of Nefertiti. Our knowledge of that period and this woman’s life is full of question marks and contradictions. Michelle Moran does a superb job of assembling much of this and creating a compelling and moving story told from the perspective of Nefertiti’s sister.
I love Egyptian history. This was great historical fiction

Read anything by Michelle Moran. Excellently written.
Michele Moran has brought Ancient Egypt and Nefertiti to the reader in the enjoyable book.
I read this book several years ago, and when it was up for sale, I read it again. The characters are actual people who lived in the time period, and Moran’s depiction of them is realistic and haunting. Her research is meticulous. I highly recommend reading this book if you love history, particularly Egyptian history.
Very well written , intriguing, very interesting to me.
