In this steamy series opener from bestselling author Jamie K. Schmidt—whose writing has been called “hot and sexy, with just the right amount of emotional punch,” by Lauren Layne—a vigilante biker takes the power of love into his own hands. Lucy Simmons comes from a rough family, but she’s a damn good public defender. Even though she hates to see criminals walk due to sloppy police work, the … police work, the law’s there to make sure everyone gets a fair trial, and Lucy certainly doesn’t believe in the kind of justice meted out by the leather-clad ex-cop they call “Evil.” He’s stubborn, cynical, and out of control—but he plays her body like no man ever has. For once, both Lucy’s boss and her brother agree: The biker is trouble.
Evan Villiers took a sacred vow to let no killer, rapist, or pedophile go unpunished. When scumbags fall through the system, the Sentinels of Babylon clean up the garbage. Although the SOBs and their methods may not be to Lucy’s liking, the beautiful lawyer has become Evan’s light in the dark. But his next hit is Lucy’s own brother—a murderer who got off on a technicality. Now, with his loyalties split, Evan must turn his back on his sworn duties . . . or lose the woman who has claimed his reckless heart.

A group of childhood friends that came back together as adults and created an MC with the name of their childhood group, Sentinels of Babylon. A retired police officer, a former high security prison guard, a former sniper and a former CIA agent. All burned out from their jobs or fighting demons of their own coming together to form a family and finding their own peace. Evan “Evil” Villiers retired from the police force and searched out his childhood friends, the Sentinels of Babylon name they called themselves in childhood is now the name of their MC. They have a bar that is patronized by police officers on the ground floor and then their MC meets in the top floor where they have a meeting room for officers only to discuss the jobs they do.
She is a public defender that is not well liked by the police officers, mostly because she’s good at her job, but also because she defends some criminals that would be better off behind bars. Lucy Simmons has her reasons for becoming a public defender and she won’t apologize for doing her job. She’s strait laced and follows the laws to a T, some of that is to keep from being targeted by the police that have problem with her doing her job. She also can’t seem to get Evan Villiers out of her mind. She has always found him attractive, but she doesn’t date police officers, good thing he retired.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a change from a lot of MC’s that I read. It has great characters, a good story line and keeps you wondering if Lucy and Evil will be able to find a way to work out their differences and have a relationship that they can both accept. Evil is fighting with some things on his own and Lucy finds herself in a situation that will put a huge roadblock between them, but things could work out in the end, if you believe in fate. I give this story a 5-star review and look forward to Sentinel’s Kiss in the near future. If you are a reader of MC’s but are looking for a different twist, you’ll enjoy Necessary Evil.
Necessary Evil – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Defence Attorney Lucy Simmons is a firm believer in upholding the full letter of the law, unlike a certain avenging (Hell’s) angel, nicknamed ‘Evil’ by those he rides with as leader of the Sentinels of Babylon.
Lucy’s aware of the so-called S.O.Bs, a vigilante biker gang, who ‘clean up’ those miscreants that slip through the justice system, but never expected any of her clients to be on their ‘hit list’, or to fall for Evil, whom she only knows by his everyday name, as Evan Villiers – an ex-cop.
When they meet up unexpectedly, the spark between them is instant and irresistible. Yet how can their romance build into a roaring volcano of passion when they’re on opposite sides of the law?
Jamie Schmidt writes a steamy and riveting love vs the law story, that’s not for the faint-hearted or modest reader, in Necessary Evil.
Why not try it for yourself and be warned, it’ll get more than your literary juices going!
I have not read many MC books, but I totally enjoyed this one. I love books with the kind of action and mystery that this one had. I was not expecting to get so invested in this book. I Loved this book and the ending was surprising. I really want to read the next one.
I highly recommend it! Happy Reading!!!

Loved this first book in the Sentinels of Babylon series!
Jamie has you torn right from the start but wishing for a HEA by the differences between Lucy and Evan’s jobs and their insta-attraction. As the two run into each other more frequently, Evan declares his desire for Lucy which Lucy denies at first. But when Evan’s current job collides in Lucy’s world, how can there possibly be any outcome for the two of them? You have to read to find out and won’t put the book down. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Evan is an ex-cop, owner of a bar, MC member, and vigilante. Lucy is a public defender and believes in the process. Already we can see that there is a conflict, then through in a little brother who got off for murder on a technicality. Do you give up your beliefs for love or do you push through and do what you do? This MC had drama and action. We see an attraction between Evan and Lucy, can it survive? This is just an amazing book. The characters were well developed and the story flowed. I was hooked.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this as an ARC
Jamie Schmidt has a total winning series starter. I could see both sides of how Lucy and Evil dealt with criminals. These are the worst of the worst that make the SOB’s list but from Lucy’s standpoint it definitely creates a dilemma, especially when her brother makes that list. The chemistry between these two is kindle melting hot. Add in the suspense of “what next” and I’m completely hooked.
I liked this! It was different with some twists I didn’t see coming. Lucy and Evan had amazing chemistry and the back and forth just added to the tension. It took them a while to give in but that only made it even better. Some lines are crossed and hard decisions have to be made. It was a great read.
Lucy Simmons Is a lawyer and Evan Villiers is a member of SOBs when they meet it’s instant chemistry between them. However, there is a complication. Will they be able to over come it? I had a great time finding out. The storyline has twists and turns throughout the page.

I reread this book because I was super excited that we were hopefully finally getting the rest of the crew..also read
sentinels which i will reread again to remind myself why I have been excited…Enjoy!…I received an ARC for an honest review with netgalley. I loved it! Loved Evan and Lucy, they had so much chemistry it jumped off the pages. Evan was loyal to his SOB’s since he grew up with them and they did have his back, but once he got with Lucy he made known that they had to respect her and I really liked that. He stood by her even when as we read, she did not have all the facts and he protected her, when she needed it. Lucy, was loyal to a fault, but given the circumstances it was understandable, sad but understandable. Her brother was a hot mess that did not deserve her or her loyalty, but he was her only family and she didn’t know how bad he was til the end. Travis was annoying, and the so called cops. I loved that despite the tragedy that they went thru Evan and Lucy did get there HEA. The only thing I wished for was for her to actually develop a friendship with the SOB’s, I mean there important to Evan and they should be to her too. So hopefully we will read about them in the next book.Re-read it again and am waiting for the rest of the series.. 10/20

This is a fast paced angst driven story that draws you in from the very first page and keeps you engaged until you turn the last page I thoroughly enjoyed this story line and would recommend it to anyone who loves a MC with a difference
The Sons Of Babylon MC are not your usual 1% no they are the judge jury and executioner of the worst of the worst who for some reason escaped the justice system and there president is non other than Evan “Evil” Villiers a former cop who could no longer hack the system that allowed evil to walk. He along with the men and women of his crew will bring them all to justice. The latest case though will have him splitting his loyalties when the woman he loves Lucy Simmons a defense attorney becomes part of the latest case after all they are going after her brother a man who murdered and walked away but is everything as it seems with a mystery to solve as well and her out to prove her brothers innocence can they have a future
Great first book in the series
Necessary Evil is the first book in the Sons of Babylon MC (S.O.B.) series. I have read several book by this author with mixed results. So I was not sure if I would like a MC series but the book description interested me so I gave it a read. I really enjoyed this story of Evan “Evil” Villiers and Lucy Simmons. It sets the MC club up and introduces the reader to several of the members, who will most likely get their own books.
Evan is an “anti-hero” if there ever was one but he is one hot and super sexy man at the same time. Lucy definitely falls for Evan and he has desired her for a while. They both want justice but they go about getting it in very different ways and to different ends. Their chemistry is amazing and it is fun to watch then slowly circling each other. At the end there is one big thing not wrapped up so I am hoping that will be picked up in the next book.
I enjoyed this book so much that I got it for my own library also. I look forward to reading the next in this series.
I love a great Mc biker romance story and this book did not disappoint. It had everything that I look for in a biker romance. The chemistry is hot and explosive.

I highly recommend this book.

Necessary Evil (Sentinels of Babylon MC#1 by Jamie K. Schmidt is a new exciting start to this amazing series that is a must read. The men and women of this club are hard, edgy bikers each with a background in law/military who dispense punishments out to the guilty. Evil is this larger than life sexy character who is a dangerous no holds bar bold ex cop turned Pres of the Sentinels of Babylon MC . Evil and his men deals out judgements on killers, rapists, and pedophiles who manage to get away with their crimes by the judicial system. Now the Sentinels of Babylon MC on the orders of a man called Judge will take matters into their own hands. This story will pull you in as Lucy Simmons a tough public defender who is a sassy and quick witted is determined to stand her ground with all of the harassment she has to take daily by the policemen she works with. But one man has haunted her for the past two years, Evil after one night with him has left her haunted.
These two have been going back and forth both wanting each other, but Evil knows that his lifestyle and what his club does is not a good mix for them to begin a relationship. But circumstances will bring these two together, with plenty of steam and passion Lucy has not choice but to give in to Evil’s demands as he tells her she will be his ol’ lady. Now these two begin a hot and steamy relationship that has some of Evil’s men not happy that they are together, but once Lucy shows them that she can’t be pushed around they see a different side to her. Even her co-workers are warning her against Evil, especially Travis who informs Lucy that he thinks Evil and his club are the vigilantes who are killing people who were never brought to justice. Now Lucy will do all she can to protect Evil and his club until her brother who returns from California once again needing her help will cause problems. When he becomes the prime suspect in three murders this will place Lucy right in the middle. This story had so many twists and turns that will be on edge as you follow Evil and Lucy’s journey. When someone close to Lucy ends up dead Lucy finds that everything she thought she new is about to shake her world. Will Lucy finally believe her brother is not the innocent he led her to believe? Will she leave Evil for good to save her brother or will her life end up in danger. What a great start to a new exciting series by Jamie K. Schmidt, can’t wait for Sentinel’s Kiss…. Sentinel is another hard edgy biker.

This is one of the best MC stories I’ve read in some time. This book has some fantastic, well-written characters that you will want to read more about. This book may be focused on Evan “Evil” Villiers and Lucy Simmons, but you will enjoy meeting the other members of the Sons of Babylon MC too. Evan, as Lucy calls him, is the President of the S.O.B.’s and a former cop. Lucy is a public defender. She has her reasons for doing this job and Evan has his reasons for forming a MC club besides owning a bar and we aren’t left guessing why. They have been eyeing each other for years, but haven’t done more than share a kiss two years ago. If you enjoy suspense with your romance, I highly recommend this fantastic book. I won’t leave any spoilers, so do yourself a favor and grab this book. I can’t wait to read Sentinel’s story next.

Lucy was an attorney who’s brother was always getting into trouble. Evan was the leader of a vigilante biker gang called the Sentinels of Babylon, and they were sequestered to kill Lucy’s brother Bobby.
Such a fantastic book! Lots of drama and intrigue that just kept asking more questions all the way through. Certainly a book I couldn’t put down and so excited to read others in the series.

Lucy and Evil are at opposite ends of the law, she defends and he gets rid of people with issues. They start a relationship but she is always available for her brother even at the risk of her life.
