In this steamy series opener from bestselling author Jamie K. Schmidt—whose writing has been called “hot and sexy, with just the right amount of emotional punch,” by Lauren Layne—a vigilante biker takes the power of love into his own hands. Lucy Simmons comes from a rough family, but she’s a damn good public defender. Even though she hates to see criminals walk due to sloppy police work, the … police work, the law’s there to make sure everyone gets a fair trial, and Lucy certainly doesn’t believe in the kind of justice meted out by the leather-clad ex-cop they call “Evil.” He’s stubborn, cynical, and out of control—but he plays her body like no man ever has. For once, both Lucy’s boss and her brother agree: The biker is trouble.
Evan Villiers took a sacred vow to let no killer, rapist, or pedophile go unpunished. When scumbags fall through the system, the Sentinels of Babylon clean up the garbage. Although the SOBs and their methods may not be to Lucy’s liking, the beautiful lawyer has become Evan’s light in the dark. But his next hit is Lucy’s own brother—a murderer who got off on a technicality. Now, with his loyalties split, Evan must turn his back on his sworn duties . . . or lose the woman who has claimed his reckless heart.

Intriguing start…
This was a first read of this author and it was jam-packed with romance and friction. Lucy and Evan had been frenemies for years, fighting on the same side of the law but not always agreeing on things. When Evan went from cop to vigilante the rules changed completely and Lucy, a dedicated defense attorney, wasn’t sure what to make of it. Honorable goals didn’t mean how you achieved them were right. Especially when family was involved! Before, at least, they seemed to be working towards a common goal. Now, only chemistry seemed to keep them together…
I struggled to write this review, I have to admit. The start of this story was slow and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. There was a lot going on with the main story arc as well as plot bird walks popping up regularly. An inconsistent delivery meant I struggled to keep up and, quite frankly, care. Then something changed. Not sure if it was the main characters bonding more and at the same time clicking with me or the solid main story arc but suddenly I was invested and riveted to the pages.
Overall, I would recommend it. A few misses but a lot of hits and, by the end, completely worth it.
*I happily reviewed this story
**Thank you to NetGalley
** spoiler alert ** He keeps bad people off the street, she helps those caught up with the law. They have avoided the fire between each other for years. What happens when they give in? Will she be able to accept who he really is?
Absolutely loved the fire between these two. I loved how she was determined to help those who needed it, even if others gave her problems for it. I loved how he was who he was, but he was determined to prove he could be there and protect her regardless of what was happening. Steamy read!
I stopped and started this book so many times that I finally decided to finish it. The idea of a vigilante MC club made me a little hesitant, but I love Jamie K. Schmidt’s writing, so I figured I’d give it a try. While the moral compass may be a little skewed, EVIL puts it all on the line for the woman he wants, with a guaranteed HEA.
This book was a pleasant surprise for me, and I’m glad I finally gave it a chance.
Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I very much enjoyed this exciting book. The interaction between Lucy and Evan is so exciting, I couldn’t get enough of this book, I wanted it to keep going. It is filled with danger, drama, surprises, suspense, and passion.

Our heroine is a public defender, dedicated to giving everyone a fair trial. Our hero is something of a vigilante, taking over when the law fails. Needless to say, they might have some differences regarding methodology.
This is book one is the series, so no worries about missing the starting gate. This is it, so jump right in.
This is a steamy romance story with a healthy dose of action and intrigue. The story is very well written and easy to read, with two well developed characters that approach problems from two different sides. They say opposites attract and that is definitely the case here. The story moves along at a good pace and presents some interesting choices for our characters. I enjoyed watching out characters find some common ground. Overall, this was a very fun weekend read.
Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved this book! After I read the first book I just knew I had to read the next book. I cant wait to read more from this author! I definitely recommend it!
Really enjoyed this action packed, emotional and intriguing journey filled with dangerous and exciting charters, witty dialog, heart racing twists, thrilling turns and undeniable passion. An edge of your seat read from beginning to end.
A incredible well written romantic MC suspense story. This engaging storyline had me on a emotional roller coaster of action, great tension, protectiveness, mystery and twists and turns in an exciting fast paced story. The characters are interesting, well developed and have sizzling hot chemistry as they journey through being on the opposite sides of the law. It left me on the edge wondering if they could get their HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC.
I couldn’t put it down
Lucy has her reasons for being a public defendant and for wanting to protect her ner-do-well brother. She also has her reasons for keeping her distance from MC President Evan aka Evil. When they meet up at a Police/Firefighter fundraiser, he convinces her to give him a chance. Then a colleague whispers in her ear about suspicious activity that the MC may be involved in. Should she follow her heart or her head?
Evil and the other VIPs of the MC have begun to mete out their own kind of justice to those who have been able to skirt the justice system with the help of a mysterious Judge. After Evil and Lucy get together, the MC has to keep her away from their “extracurricular activities.” When their next subject turns out to be Lucy’s brother they may have no choice but to bring her in.
When Evil came back into Lucy’s life, he’s not letting her go this time & will show Lucy the only place she belongs is in his arms. Lucy always fights for the underdog being a defense attorney & knows better than to get involved with S.O.B. MC President Evil, but he is the only man she trusts to share her secrets with. Evil walks a narrow path with his fellow one percenters to help make justice happen, but the danger is moving ever closer to their club and as his MC takes the heat, Lucy gets caught in the crossfire. Evil will do whatever it takes to keep Lucy safe and when he finds out just how close to home the danger is, he will take out the enemy even though he knows Lucy may not be able to forgive him. With his & Lucy’s relationship on the line, Evil will have to a make a decision about his role with the club if he wants to make a future with Lucy.

I loved Necessary Evil! I found it to be an awesome story that’s super exciting and a sexy HOT read! I absolutely loved Evan and Lucy’s intense hot chemistry and all that went with it! Whew! This extremely addictive storyline, with all the twists and turns had my emotions all over the place, then toss in all that steamy hot loving and I was hanging on to every single word! I definitely recommend this book as very addictive and steamy hot! I’ve loved all of Jamie K Schmidt’s books and every one is always better than the last! I’m super excited about this Sons of Babylon MC Romance series!
Not for me. Sorry. 3.5*
I like this author, she is a very talented storyteller. Her descriptions, dialogues and tension points are quite spot on, and this story is able to hold the reader’s attention well. Personally, however, I am not too keen on vigilante action. It felt like there were several instances where the distinction between vigilante vs. assassin was literally blurred. Snapping someone’s neck is not my idea of ‘the right thing to do’, no matter how worthy is the cause. The manner in which the author described how Evil and Lucy lose their battle to fight their intense attraction for one another was steamy and very well done. The motorcycle gang plays not to change but to terminate, which I can’t make myself to like. Not all subject matter is agreeable in literature, I accept that. I remember there was a Clint Eastwood film about him bringing vigilante cops to justice over 20 years ago. How is killing the brother of the love of your life, morally acceptable? Why is killing, rather than incapacitating a better choice?

It’s well written, pulls you in and holds your attention. An enjoyable read with characters that are well developed and intriguing and deal with family, drama and of course romance. A good start to a new series that will draw you in.

Lots of drama, family conflict, and romance in this story!

Lucy was a public defender because she wanted suspects to have a fair trial. She was not popular with the local police, but she dealt with it. Evan was a retired police detective who now owned a bar and was the President of the “Sentinels of Babylon MC Club.” There had been a lot of chemistry between them that neither had acted upon until recently. Evan wanted her to become his”Old Lady” and Lucy was only too happy to accept believing they had wasted too much time already. I enjoyed this story with its complicated storyline and the steamy romance between Evan and Lucy. Family relationships play an important role in this story, as does the fine line between good and evil, right and wrong.

Enjoyable read. This MC read is hot. I like to see councillor and MC get together and the conflicts that occurs not only because of the nature of her job but her family. I love book where loyalty and love prevails.
Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. This story was awesome, I could not put the book from page one it had me hookline and sinkered. This book had more excitement and action than my housework. This story was full of emotions that you felt like you have adrenaline running through your body, and the bodies embracing was enough to support a smile on one’s face

Evil and Lucy know each other from when he was on the police force. Two years down the line they get their chance to move on to a physical relationship. She’s trying to protect the innocent and he is taking on jobs for ‘the Judge’. Their relationship blurs some lines when her brother becomes his new target. Things escalate and choices need to be made. Very steamy.
This was my first book by Jamie K. Schmidt and I really enjoyed it!!! I love MC series and this was a great start to a new series!!! I look forward to reading more by this author!!! Read and enjoy!!!

This isn’t my first book by this author. She never disappoints! This is a story about Evil/Evan (the president of SOB or sentinels of Babylon MC) and Lucy. Their relationship is intense and sooo steamy! The author has a way with words And handles the topics that could be triggering so well. It was a beautiful story. There is no “cheating”. The drama and mystery of the storyline makes you keep you reading. It’s definitely a page turner make sure you are ready to spend the afternoon or spend all night reading this from beginning to end. I can’t wait for the next MC book in this series!
