3) She doesn’t know how to knit.
After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can’t help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan—aka Sir McHotpants—witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can’t afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn to make her an offer she can’t refuse.
Neanderthal Seeks Human is book #1 in the Knitting in the City series. Each book is a standalone, full length (110k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the misadventures and exploits of seven friends in Chicago, all members of the same knitting group.

Loved it!! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
Such a delight to read. Quirky, fun, interesting, with good chemistry and fabulous, unexpected dialogue. I am so looking forward to reading more from this author.
Loved this fun read. It was my first time reading a Penny Reid novel, but it won’t be my last. Although Janie’s quirks and anxieties could be a bit taxing on the reader at times, she was a fully formed character and altogether endearing. Quinn is also likable, although a bit more exposition from his POV would’ve gone a long way toward edifying the …
Laugh out loud funny! All kinds of other emotions too! Such a good time reading this one! I definitely want more of this author. I did not realize it was available with a sequel in a set; it is complete as is. Lots of relationship action with her relatives and her friends. Lots of opportunities for more stories with her friends lives. …
Delightful characterization. This was a thoroughly amusing read.
I’m divided.
The beginning is terrible. I’m a Janie and even I couldn’t stand to be in her head, while she’s frantic, for three chapters. It got easier when she calmed down. And happily she spent most of the book calm or not thinking too hard. I wish we could have jumped ship to Quinn’s head every once in a while, just for a shot of normalcy. But …
I have really liked all knitting books and all the Winston brother books by Penny Reid. I purchased this as a set with all the “Neanderthal” pieces, so I might merge the book details. Our neanderthal knows the heroine is with even more of a jerk than she thought. He appreciates her mind and quirks (spouting odd facts when nervous)
Each of her …
I am giving this book 1.5 stars because I listened to the entire thing. It was similar to that quote about “watching a train wreck”.
Jamie’s quirkiness was sometimes interesting. Other than that she came across as irritating and clueless. I wanted to stop listening after the first couple of chapters, but I had an almost obsessive need to find out …
I ADORE JANIE!! I find there are so few likable smart women out there, and Janie was one of them. Too often they are made unlikable if they are smart, Janie is sweet, caring and intelligent. I love how caring Quinn is of her right from the start. What a great start to a book full of badass women!
4.5
Janie Morris’ bad day goes from bad to worse when she loses her boyfriend, home and job. The kicker is getting walked out by Sir Handsome McHotpants, the security guard Janie has been admiring-slash-stalking for the past five weeks. Janie is sad she’ll never see McHotpants again … but what happens when Janie then wakes up with a hangover in bed …
I love her books!
It took me a couple of chapters to warm up to this one, my second Penny Reid novel, but after that I had a hard time putting it down. Lots of humor and romance in a plot with some enjoyable suspense that isn’t all of the “will they or won’t they?” variety. The heroine does indeed miss the obvious, which the reader will not, but it’s kind of fun …
I loved this one! At times it was almost too steamy for me, but she never quite crossed the line. So fun! It felt real. I loved that they were both intelligent people who were confused by feelings they’d never felt for anyone else, but that they communicated enough to get out of their problems.
Neanderthal Seeks Human was an amazing introduction to the Knitting in the City series. I had read Beauty and the Mustache first wanting to learn more about Ashley and Drew from loving (read obsessed with) the Winston Brothers series. But Janie and Quinn were truly a loveable pair. I enjoyed every second of the big grump falling in …
Penny Reid has a way with words. Great plot mixed with witty dialogue make for a great read!
I started out listening to this book in the car. I found myself taking small road trips just so I could listen to it, since it was the only time I could actually just focus on listening to it with no one around. I eventually got so into it, I opened the eBook so I could get it read.
Where have I been? I have been “collecting” Reid’s books in …
I loved being inside Janie’s head and hearing all of the rambling bits and crazy insecurities. It made me feel less alone in my freakishness. Quinn is amazing and I love that he wants to be a better man for Janie.
I loved the story of Janie and Quinn. If there is anyone who gets Janie’s quirkiness, it’s Quinn, and in turn, she is one of the few people that Quinn has allowed to see his soft side. They are just the best! This book had romance and intrigue. I’m so happy that I found Penny Reid’s books! I haven’t found one yet that I didn’t love.
Really liked this series!
