This book is not a standalone. It is the sequel to ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human,’ it is book #1.5 in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series, and it is a full length, 105k word novel. There are three things you should know about Quinn Sullivan: 1) He is madly in love with Janie Morris, 2) He’s not above playing dirty to get what (or who) he wants, and 3) He doesn’t know how to knit. After just five months of … of dating Janie, Quinn–former Wendell and unapologetic autocrat–is ready to propose marriage. In fact, he’s more than ready. If it were up to Quinn, he would efficiently propose, marry, and beget Janie with child all in the same day–thereby avoiding the drama and angst that accompanies the four stages of pre-matrimony: engagement, meeting the parents, bachelor/bachelorette party, and overblown, superfluous wedding day traditions. But Janie, much to Quinn’s dismay, tosses a wrench in his efficacious endeavors and challenges him to prove his devotion by going through the matrimonial motions, no matter how minute and mundane. Will Quinn last until the wedding day? Or will he yield to his tyrant impulses?Regardless, one thing is for certain, Quinn Sullivan will have to learn to expect the Spanish Inquisition (i.e. the unexpected) if he plans to have and keep Janie Morris as his wife.Again, you must read ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human’ first before reading this book. This book is written in first person, alternating POV (Janie Morris AND Quinn Sullivan; but more Janie than Quinn)
more
Five months of dating Janie Morris is all Quinn Sullivan needs to propose and marry her, despite her quirkiness or “weirdness” of spouting trivia, often irrelevant in conversation with her. Concerned that he isn’t a “good guy”, he tells her that she at least makes him want to be one and she tries to figure out if he just sees himself incorrectly. Janie has a concern that they haven’t had major arguments or stress, so she forces the planning of a big wedding (as a compromise, in a short period of time) with all that traditionally comes with it, just so they can go through stress to ensure they can handle marriage. Additional stress thrown in is whether Quinn can handle Janie’s wish to meet and invite the parents that disowned him after his brother’s death, for which he blames himself. Can their engagement survive the crazy bachelorette party in Las Vegas? Penny Reid has a way of writing about characters that are charming or intriguing. If they don’t already have friends or family that make great support systems, they usually end up with them, to the benefit of the main character and this story is no different. It was an enjoyable, cozy read.
This is the first book I recommend to anyone who asks me for a good book to read!
Janie Morris and Quinn Sullivan are the Yin and Yang of romance. They compliment each other bringing out the best parts of the other. When Janie’s insecurities threaten their future happiness, Quinn gives her what she needs to prove his love is real and he won’t leave her. With a little help from their friends, an Elvis impersonator, a naked Vegas wedding and a lot of love and laughter, this couple just might make it to the church on time. This is a must read if you love romantic comedies with a lot of heart. Penny Reid tackles some real-life issues using humor and a bit of sexy romance to help it go down easier. Like a spoonful of sugar, Reid helps readers understand those difficult life lessons by making them more palatable.
Quinn Sullivan loves Janie Morris and would marry her in a heartbeat. Too bad Janie wants a long engagement … unless he can prove his love for her. Quinn agrees to Janie’s ridiculous conditions. After all, how hard can it be? But what happens when exes refuse to stay in the past and secrets are unveiled?
Neanderthal Marries Human is a fun, drama-filled and steamy story chock full of wacky and lovable characters and laughs
A smart and funny romance. Well written and very enjoyable
I have a new favorite author!
The humor and romance in the book makes it a fun read.
I cried, I laughed, I grinned, I thought, and I thoroughly enjoyed Janie and Quinn’s trip down the aisle. I’ve been hoarding Penny’s books but I’ve only recently started reading them, and I’m irritated that I waited so long. I’ll be remedying that real quick.
I love this series. Quirky, funny, and entertaining which is my favorite type of read. The Neanderthal are my favorites in the series as I am well acquainted with big brained, communicationally challenged situations.
So, while I’ve read the first and second books in this series, as well as a few others interspersed and out of order, I decided I wanted to jump back into the series and catch up on all the ones I missed out on. So I decided to start with this one. Of course there were several times I wanted to go back and reread the ones I had read just because I might not have remembered what was going on or because I just wanted to relive their story now that I had this extra bit of story to go with theirs. The female narrator on this one really irritated me, she was so slow I had to speed her up. I’m sure it had partly to do with the character, but then when the male narrator, my favorite, Sebastian York, came on, I had to immediately slow the speed back down to enjoy his smooth, rich voice. Of course several of the people in the story are ones that are in the Winston Brothers series and I’m working on that series as well. Filling in the ones I hadn’t read yet too. One thing I really liked and stood out to me was that bit about how the dress at the end of Pretty in Pink is just awful. Am I the only one who hated it? I thought I was, but this story makes me see that I’m not the only one.
I this second part of Janie & Sir McHotpants’ story. More shenanigans, more love and more knitting club fun. I hope there will be more Janie & Sir McHotpants to come!
Borrowed via Kindle Unlimited.
This was the second book about Quinn and Janie and it did not disappoint. This was starts pretty much where the first ended. This book goes through all the craziness of planning a wedding and still getting to know each other and how the function as a couple. We still have all the secondary characters that I can’t wait to read about. I’m really enjoying this series and look forward to reading more books by Penny.
Sweet, funny, surprisingly emotional and utterly perfect ending to the unique and awesome story of Janie and her Quinn. I loved every minute of it and laughed and even shed a tear or two. Definitely a not to be missed part of this hilarious series!
Still have to say that Janie is one of my favourite characters. She’s exceptionally smart, analytical, logical and hysterical in her awkwardness. Loved that Quinn now has a relationship with his parents and that Janie has found a mom and dad. Let’s hope that Shelly comes back in the fold.
Laugh out loud funny..Enjoyed even more than the first book (need to read it first) Neanderthal Meets Human. Janie comes into her own in this book as an intelligent strong woman equal to Quinn. I enjoyed Elizabeth’s story and look forward to finding out what happens to the other knitters who we only see a hint of in this book.
Loved it!
The author gives you more of the original pair of characters and she ties in the other books perfectly. You can’t help but fall in love with these books. They make you laugh, and cry and ultimately it give you a great story. Definitely recommend.
I loved this book and the author. If you ever get a chance check her out. She is witty and funny plus smart. Throws imfacts you would never know.
4+ Stars!!
I know it’s way early in the year, but this is my favorite so far! I missed this one my first time thru the series (I haven’t actually made it all the way thru the series yet, actually), so I’m super stoked I realized that and got it this time! Love, love, LOVED!
