really liked it
I love Navy Seal stories and I loved this one. One caveat to loving this book is Lila, the heroine, who couldn’t get past the need for independence. Lila witnesses a murder and runs for her life right into the arms of Travis Hawkins, an ex Navy Seal recovering from a career ending knee injury. Travis steps up to protect Lila but Lila fights Travis almost every step of the way as the suspense ratchets up. Really???? If you are so independent why stick around while Travis keeps her safe.
I enjoyed the story line and look forward to reading other books in this new series.
A good start to a new series. Travis may just turn into a beach bum. It seems that is all he can do since leaving the military. He didn’t leave because he wanted to, he left because of an injury. Lila will independent at all costs. She is tired of the way her father wants to run her life and she will do things her way. Whether he likes it or not. Lila witnesses a murder and makes a run for it. She runs right into Travis. Travis can’t stand by while a woman is in distress even if he has a bum knee. As he helps her figure out why she is being targeted, he realizes that he wants more of a life than just a hammock on the beach. Will Lila?
Lila did the one thing she rarely did. Promised success. Oh, she usually got her man or woman whichever was needed for the job. However, promising to get one particular person to leave their home and current job to take another wasn’t a given. In this case not even close.
Travis was re-cooping on the beach. A former Navy SEAL, an injury on his last mission made it his final mission. He was not prepared or interested when the pretty–make that gorgeous–woman crashed into his lackluster life.
She ran from the horrific scene right into Travis. No one believed what she saw when she told them not even the police. Would Travis? He was too much like the men in her family. She didn’t want to ask him for help. Yet, she was in a foreign country. Was she in danger? She hadn’t even thought about what she’d seen meant to her promise to her client.
The author has a special touch with her stories about SEALS and I’m delighted to read this first book in the series. She’s adding another factor to the rest of the series to spice it up a little more, although, with those hot guys there’s already plenty of spice. The characters are strong but not perfect. You can’t resist falling for them as BFFs or to add some spice to your life. Her secondary characters are quick studies but interesting as well. The women are strong and our Lila is feisty with a broken word filter.
This book stands alone and begins the new series.
This was a decent book. The crime ring was interesting enough to keep you reading. I liked Travis. Even when he wasn’t at his “best”, he was still likeable.
There were a couple of times in the book when moving from one chapter to another, that I thought I had missed something. There wasn’t a smooth transition into the next scene.
I have to be honest and admit that I NEED an epilogue. Otherwise, it feels like the book ends too abruptly.
Lastly, and this might be the most important issue, I could not stand Lila. I tried as hard as I could, but she was not likeable. For all of her conversation about how her father treated her, I found her to be push and unpleasant more so than strong and independent.
My dislike of her took away from the book for me. I would still recommend you read this book and judge for yourself.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.
I thought this was a good read. Travis and Lila’s story had action, intrigue, suspense, drama and romance. This book is well written, the plot was entertaining and the characters had good banter. I enjoyed it and look forward to more books from this series.
Travis “Hawk” Hawkins is recreating in a hammock on the beach, recovering from a career ending injury, when Lila Adrian comes barreling into his life after having witnessed a murder. Travis feels an intrinsic need to protect Lila, ensuring her safety is his priority. While he and Lila try to untangle a web of deceit and uncover a crime ring, they are drawn to each other, but will their feelings be enough to overcome their personal issues? When Lila’s impetuous actions lead her into life threatening danger, will Travis be able to safe her?
This is a wonderful tale of intrigue, drama, and romance. The action is fast paced, full of action, suspense and steamy passion. The characters are well-developed and appealing. The storyline is engaging, keeping you involved from beginning to end. I highly recommend this extremely easy-to-read, attention grabbing romantic suspense!
This book is a great start for this new series .
The story centers around former Navy SEAL, Hawk/Travis Hawkins and Lila Adrian.
After an injury that terminated his career, Hawk is in Costa Rica, unsure of himself and his future. Lila is in town for business but when she witnesses a murder, she runs to the guy she had seen at the beach. That being Hawk.
From there on it’s non-stop action filled with sexual chemistry, and lots of whodunit. But aside from the engaging plot , it’s a story about two very complex individuals. One who feels he has no future, since his life and family were his SEAL “brothers” and the other one, needing to proof to her family she is a capable and intelligent individual.
My only regret is that somehow I had failed to read Ms. Weber’s story for a couple of years. A mistake I have rectified.
Hopefully we’ll hear more of this couple in future books in the series. Can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for us.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Lila Adrian is determined to make her life on her own and prove to her father she can do just that. Traveling to hire a chef for her current client she literally stumbles into Travis Hawkins who is recovering from a career ending injury. Lila is just what Travis needs to get his life back on track and to keep her safe from the trouble that found her. What a great new series and can’t wait to read more.
Travis and Lila make a fun couple. The story is funny and filled with lots of witty quips and banter between the characters. There is drama and some surprises that make for an even more exciting read. Travis is on somewhat of a permanent vacation while he recovers from an injury. Lila is working and finds herself in the middle of a crime. She literally runs into him and they come together to try and figure out what is happening. As they poke around they spend more time together and become lovers. Eventually the real world creeps in and they have to take a leap of faith on forever.
