The characters are bold and captivating with lots of magnetic attraction but what’s more this couple fit together in a way that makes readers smile knowingly. Lots of emotional turmoil and heart gripping emotions ensures that the readers can easily understand the characters’ motivations and desires.
The plots is fast paced and a perfect combination of romance and suspense that keeps readers thoroughly engaged with the story as the suspense builds with some stunning twists and betrayals keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The story is set in a small town which adds intrigue to the atmosphere of the suspense and readers can’t help but relish this juicy combination of sexy, sweet and passionate romance and thrilling suspense.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
I just have to say I loved everything about this story, it is the perfect romantic suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next.
Peyton Kerr is starting her life over in a new town, the last place she was truly happy. Moving to small-town Stoney Creek, Maine where she bought a small business and a lake house. She loves that no one knows about her past. It is perfect for starting over.
Boone Knight is the sexy police detective that is drawn to Peyton and why not? She did kiss him before she even knew who he was. They have a chemistry that sizzles when they are in the same room. Neither Boone or Peyton are looking for a relationship, because of their past. But why can’t they have a little fun together?
When a body turns up in Peyton’s shop, her quiet existence is suddenly gone. It seems someone is after her but her life back in Seattle looks perfectly clean on paper.
Can Boone protector her from who is after her? Will Peyton give in to the feelings for Boone? Can Boone and Peyton figure out what is really gone on and why? Will there be a future for Boone and Peyton?
As I said, I loved everything about this story, it is filled with romance, love, lust, suspense, new beginnings, and a HEA. I love Stacey Kennedy, she has a way of drawing you into a story and keeping you hanging on until the end. I highly recommend this story and love that it is the beginning of a series, so more romantic suspense to come. I can not wait.

Naughty Stranger is the first story in Dangerous Love series, Holy Shite Batman Boone and Peyton’s story will grab you form start to finish, There attraction only makes there chemistry explosive. This story has it all from murder, Action, suspense plus some really steamy moments between them. A must read, I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley for an honest review. OMG LOVED STACEY, Bring on the next one.
Loved this one!! It was the perfect blend of a sexy romance and suspense. It’s very well written with a nice easy flow, great characters, and an explosive storyline. City girl Peyton Kerr relocates to small town Maine seeking a fresh start away from the horrors of the city. When tragedy follows her Boone Knight comes into her life. He’s the detective investigating the incident and he’s worried Peyton is in danger so he vows to protect her. Neither Peyton or Boone are looking for a relationship but sometimes things just happen. Don’t miss their story. I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this romantic suspense story. This was a new-to-me author, and I’m highly anticipating the rest of this series!
Peyton Kerr fled Seattle, and her nursing career, after losing her husband. She moved to a small town they both had loved on an amazing vacation together, Stoney Creek, Maine. She uses the insurance payout to buy her small house, and a small business on the square, a lingerie store. She worked at one while she was a nursing student, and always enjoyed herself. She wants to find happiness again after the last year spent in turmoil. On her first night in town, she meets a wonderful woman who becomes her best friend, Kinsley, as well as Kinsley’s big brother, Boone.
Boone Knight has been a detective in Stoney Creek for 2 years. He grew up in town, but spent 10 years as a cop in NYC, where he moved with his ex-wife after they were first married. When he returned to town, he was thrilled to reconnect with his 2 childhood best friends, and fellow detectives, Rhett and Asher, as well as his dad, and his sister. Boone had a very painful break from his ex, for some very interesting reasons. The night he first sees Peyton in his sister’s bar, he’s immediately attracted. She’s tipsy, and lays a kiss on him unexpectedly, and he’s all for it, but eventually cooler heads prevail. Then she spends the next month avoiding him. He’s determined to get her attention, but when a dead woman is found in her shop, an opportunity presents itself for him to get closer to her, and protect her from harm.
Boone and Peyton’s connection was HOT and so strong from the first minute. I loved how drawn they were to each other, even though they both had huge and varied reasons for their reluctance to act on their attraction. Peyton was still fighting through the heartbreak of her husband’s death, and Boone was no longer confident in his own instincts where women were concerned. He didn’t think he could ever truly open his heart and trust one again. They both agreed to give in to the pull, but with the caveat that it was totally casual. No real dates. No falling in love. But they both came to realize that they couldn’t keep those promises.
I really loved Boone’s sister Kinsley. She was so sweet, and fun, and caring, and really came to be a best friend and sister to Peyton. She was ALL FOR Peyton and her brother dating, and she even tried to push them together faster than they were willing to go. She was a delight of a character and I can’t wait for her story. She holds a long-lasting torch for Rhett, though she doesn’t think he’ll ever settle down. I guess we’ll see about that! I also enjoyed Kinsley’s best friend and employee, Remy. Remy fancies herself a bit of a witch. She reads tarot, and tea leaves, and sages Peyton’s shop after the murder. She has a past with Asher, but he broke her heart, and she’s trying to move on. But everyone HATES her new boyfriend, and thinks he’s a creep, and she won’t hear it. I’m curious to see how that’ll all shake out, since Remy and Asher’s book is next! It struck me funny that she can read into other people’s lives but doesn’t even notice her boyfriend is sketchy. I guess we’ll see what happens! Boone’s dad and Peyton’s parents were sweet as well, and I loved getting to know all these awesome characters in this lovely small coastal town. I’m heading to Maine on vacation soon, for the first time, and I am so excited to find a cool town similar to this one!
The suspense plot here was great, and scary at times, and I enjoyed how it all played out. I was suspicious of the baddie from the start, but I wasn’t totally sure why they would be doing it, and I waffled on whether I thought they did or didn’t throughout the story. I think it was handled well, and I looked forward to every action-packed moment. I’m curious how much other bad stuff can happen to our protagonists in this quaint small town over the next two books, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the author lays it out.
I really enjoyed this story, and I loved watching two broken souls find hope, and love, in each other. Especially amidst a crazy murder plot, and all their friends nosiness! I highly recommend this awesome suspense story, and I can’t wait for the next one!
Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/2019/06/09/naughty-stranger-stacey-kennedy/
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book has been hard to rate. On one hand, it has been a nice surprise that the mystery part is an important part of the story. On the other hand… when there is not someone bleeding, the book gets boring pretty fast. At the end, it feels like a nice first step for a saga, but it could have been handle better.
Through the pages of the book we meet Peyton, a young widow who is desperate to have a fresh start and regain some kind of happiness. In order to achive that, she drops her job as a nurse and goes to live to a small town to be the owner of a lingerie shop. There (in the town, not in the shop) she meets Boone, the hot detective. To add some spice to a pretty basic plot, a murder takes place in Peyton’s new shop…
In my opinion, the best part of the book is the mystery surrounding the murder and its link with Peyton. Those parts are the most enjoyable and the ones that add a good pace to the story. They are fast, well-timed and packed with different levels of action. It is a big surprised, actually. Reading the blurb, I thought the murder was going to be something in the background barely touched, but its presence is much more meatier than that. I really like that and I hope the next books follow the same pattern. Being said that, the mystery is also pretty simple and way easy to solve. Not only the who, also the why. The author drops too many clues to the reader and few suspects, so it is easy to add 2 plus 2. It is actually a bit weird that four detectives and Peyton were incapable of solving it sooner…
Too bad the nice mystery plot is paired with a truly unremarkable romance. Why on the name of all that is holy did they have to kiss in the prologue? Yes, the prologue!! Something like that pisses me off so badly. I felt robbed of everything good of the first steps of a blossoming romance. Where are the banter, the flirting, the playfulness and the eagerness to meet each other before going all in? They kiss, they ignore each other, then talk again and… sex. With one rule: nothing serious. But, somehow, by the end of the book, that rule is ignored and we, the readers, are punished with one of the most absurd and unrealistic proposals I have ever read. Zero sense. It is starting to sicken me the concept of a wedding as the only possible happily ever after. At the same time I was reading that, my mind was writing its own What if? where Peyton was revealed as the true murderer to make the last pages bearable.
If to a bad romance you add uncharismatic characters you obtain a bunch of really boring pages that made me wish for another murder to stoke my interest in the story. Fair is fair. The characters work just fine, but they are a bit simple. There is barely any sense of humour or talks about simple things. All conversations are heavy weights for the soul and it is tiring. Not even when the hunky cops are united the atmosphere gets lighter. They are too serious for their age. So, I didn’t enjoy the love/sex scenes with the main couple. I can’t believe in their relationship. I challenge them to tell me just one hobby of the other one. Their favourite food, or colour, or book or something other than the tragedies of their lives. They DO NOT know each other. I can’t buy their love, sorry.
When my interest in the romance is low, I tend to get annoy but other tiny details that have no importance, but it is how my mind cope with the boring parts. For example, it upsets me greatly the fact that in Maine is not mandatory to use helmet. The stupidity of that is not the author’s fault, but I was very surprised by the fact that Peyton doesn’t make any remarks about it. She was a ER nurse. She must have seen dozens of wounded bikers who saved their lives thanks to the helmet. And her first husband died in a car accident. I find pretty unbelievable that she is so nonchalant about the fact that Boone doesn’t use helmet while riding his bike. If she really cared…
I could point out more situations where I read too much into them due to my lack of interest for the romance. Like the slowest ambulances in the world to make the hero be the first or a sex scene in an abandoned greenhouse that was use by drug dealers… Very, very romantic… But that’s all on me.
Does the bad win over the good parts? I would say it has ended in a tie. I will read the second book and hope with all my might that the romance between Remy and Asher is better.
Naughty Stranger by Stacey Kennedy
Dangerous Love #1
Sometimes the perfect book comes my way just when I need it and today there could not have been a better book for me to read. I fell in love with the characters, supporting characters and town as they came together to welcome Peyton Kerr and then support and protect her when bad things began to happen. The dynamics between Peyton and Boone Knight sizzled and their chemistry was instantaneous and undeniable. They were perfect together and reading their story made me happy…in spite of all that happened to make it at times rather suspenseful.
Peyton was someone I could see myself being once in my life. I have been an RN and young and in love. I have not experienced the heartbreak that Peyton did but can empathize. And Boone…talk about a heartthrob and perfect book boyfriend! I loved that they truly saw and got to know one another, shared and cared and all the rest. I enjoyed the mystery of who was out to kill people and how the police followed the clues. I loved meeting Asher and Rhett – Boone’s friends and colleagues on the police force. Kinsley and Remy were great girl friends for Peyton and always there for her.
I think one thing that came through to me in this book is that we really should make the most of every moment we have because that is all any of us are sure of. Live and love and experience life even when it is dark because even in the dark there is usually a bit of light.
Did I enjoy this book? Definitely!
Would I like to read more in this series? I can’t wait!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette-Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
You can never go wrong with a Stacey Kennedy book. Her writing is perfection and the characters stories are so well written.
In Naughty Stranger, we meet Boone (holy hotness) and Peyton. Boone is an amazing detective, but due to past experiences he doesn’t trust his instincts anymore. Peyton is dealing with so much, plus she has just opened up her business when everything starts happening.
Detective Boone Knight knows something doesn’t feel right about what’s going on, but is it his growing feelings for Peyton or should he trust his gut again? My heart broke for Peyton and everything that she had to face, but she is a strong woman and I loved seeing her happy.
Can’t wait to get Asher and Remy’s book next and then we get Rhett and Kinsley’s book. I love the beginning of this new series from Stacey Kennedy and urge everyone to grab it as soon as it is released.
I couldn’t get enough of Naughty Stranger. I love Peyton and Boone together. They are so hot. New to town Peyton didn’t realize how much trouble she would bring in to her new town while trying to move on from the death of her husband. All Peyton wanted was a fresh start and didn’t realize the danger that followed. Boone wasn’t looking for forever again after his ex’s betrayl. But once Peyton enters the picture all the rules are thrown out the window. I love the suspence in this one. Watching Boone tyr and solve the case of who is after Peyton will keep you glued to the pages. You feel the love between these two grow throughout the read. Naughty Stranger is a fantastic keep you on your toes read. I really didn’t want to put this one down. I can’t wait for more of this series.
This was one hot and suspenseful book! I couldn’t put it down.
Peyton just wants to start over after a horrible tragedy. She quits her nursing job and opens her own shop in a new town. Just wanting to lay low and start living again is all she wants. However after a scary incident in her shop, it changes her life in many ways. Some of them were very scary and others were hot!
Boone was a man who is coasting through life. I loved the first interaction between these two. I had to reread it a couple of times because it was that hot!! Boone is a steady man who is great at his job, has a wonderful relationship with his family and friends.
The suspense of this book was top notch. It kept you on the edge of your seat till the end.
I highly recommend this book.
Confession, I thought this book would be a sexy story with a little mystery thrown in. Wrong! It is a fantastic tale of two people who have lost loves and want nothing to do with love again. They just want to have friend relationships. I love the camaraderie of the cops and the friends. I cried, I laughed and I smiled. This is more than sex, it is a lovely story. The mystery was good. Even though I figured out the villain, I still had a doubt towards the end of the story. I look forward to the books featuring the friends.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Loved Peyton and Boone! Peyton left Seattle for Stoney Creek, Maine to start fresh. She was a nurse, but is opening a lingerie store in town. She meets Kinsley the first day next door. She owns the bar. She also kisses a naughty stranger, who turns out to be a detective and Kinsley’s brother. He is drawn to her. She is attracted to him. A murder in her store starts a series of events that throws the two together. Boone has his own past, but he wants to have Peyton. Can they solve the murder before Peyton becomes the next victim? Can they find their happily ever after? Great suspenseful read! 5 stars
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**
I enjoy Stacey Kennedy’s writing and when I found out she was writing a romantic suspense series, I was very excited.
Peyton Kerr has just moved to Stoney Creek, Maine after enduring the most difficult year of her life to date. She was happily married and living in Seattle, however when her husband was tragically killed in a car accident, the last place she wanted to be was where everything reminded her of him. In order to start over, she chose to move to the last place they had visited together and been happy. She’s recently opened a lingerie store and is settling into her new life. One of the things that has caught her attention in her new town is the sexy police detective who happens to be the brother of her friend, Kinsley. Peyton’s hope was to live her new life in anonymity, but the universe had other ideas.
Boone Knight has had his own share of problems over the past few years. After moving to New York with his wife, the marriage fell apart sending him back to his hometown where he has continued his law enforcement career as a detective. Working alongside his two best friends since childhood, he’s sweet and sexy, but definitely isn’t looking for a relationship. He’s focused on his job and his Dad and sister and that’s it.
When a murder occurs in Peyton’s new shop, Boone and his buddies are immediately on-scene to work the investigation. It’s already clear that there is mad chemistry between Boone and Peyton and so to avoid any conflicts, he works the investigation from the sidelines. When the trail of evidence dries up, yet sinister things continue to occur, it becomes more important than ever for Boone to protect Peyton. Will they get to the bottom of the mystery before its too late?
I enjoyed this story and I also really enjoyed the other players in the book. Boone’s friends, his sister and her friend Remy were all so fantastic and I can’t wait to see how things play out for them in the next books in the series!
After a tragedy left life in Seattle unbearable for Peyton she decided it was time to leave, find somewhere that would bring a little happiness, instead of so much pain. So she packed her things and wound up in Stone Creek, it was the last place where she truly felt happy, and she’s hoping she’ll find it again. She buys her own shop, settles into her new home, and starts to find comfort in her new surroundings, everything is falling right into place. That is until someone is murdered in her store… now she is rattled all over again, and constantly looking over her shoulder.
Which brings police detective Boone Knight to her doorstep offering his protection…. and maybe a little more!
From the very first page Naughty Stranger will have you hooked, once I got started I just couldn’t put it down. It’s sultry and suspenseful story line and captivating characters drew me in and had me teetering helplessly from the edge of my seat. I loved everything about this one, the small town setting was warm and welcoming, the characters were perfectly crafted, and the words were divine… a perfect start to a new series! With a start like this one, I can hardly wait to see what the next installment holds for us. Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
This is an excellent romantic suspense! As the title suggests this is Book #1 in the Dangerous Love series and it packs a punch and I’m hoping we get more in the rest of this series. Peyton and Boone have chemistry that if off the charts from the moment they meet and it never sizzles out. I loved the mystery, intrigue and the diverse secondary characters that made this a quick, enjoyable read. The friendships among the characters was refreshing and entertaining and the description of this small town in Maine made me want to visit. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 stars
A surprising twist for Peyton, Naughty Stranger is nothing she expected and everything she swore she didn’t want. Running from her past and trying to embrace a new kind of future, Peyton moves to a small town to figure out how to survive.
It isn’t exactly what she signed up for though because soon after she starts her new life a body ruins her day. A body belonging to someone she doesn’t even know. Naughty Stranger is a suspenseful romance with plenty of red flags. Let your inner detective enjoy solving this mess while enjoy hot nights with her detective!
Boone and Peyton are two broken souls who find comfort and love when they least expect it. Add in a suspense element that keeps you guessing until the end makes for a great read. I’m looking forward to reading Wicked Sinner, book 2 in this series.
This was a sexy romantic suspense! From the very start, you knew there was loss, but you also clearly felt the need to move forward, and not have the past hold you back. As the romance builds, so does the suspense. Each line moving along parallel to each other as they get closer and closer together. When it all finally comes crashing together, even then, the suspense holds, until the moment of reveal! And that epilogue, streaming tears of happiness!!!
4 1/2 stars.
This was such an awesome romantic suspense from Stacy Kennedy. I really enjoyed the wonderful use of balance between the sweet and sexy and the suspenseful and scary. I love Peyton and Boone as characters and as a couple. Both have been torn apart by their pasts and even though their situations are different, they are no less life changing. They meet when Peyton moves to the small town of Stony Creek where Boone is a police officer. Initially neither wants anything serious, but they become super close during the murder investigation surrounding Peyton’s shop and soon they know they never want to be apart. Great story! I am really looking forward to Book 2 after that teaser!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!
This was a good second chance story for both our main characters. It isn’t a second chance for them as a couple but more like a second chance in life.
Peyton was happily married, living a normal life back in Seattle with her husband when tragedy strikes. A year after her husband was killed in a car accident, she goes back to the place where she was last happy, Stone Creek.
Boone’s a changed man. After moving back home after his wife betrayed him, he doesn’t think marriage will ever be an option for him again. When Peyton moves to town, there’s an undeniable attraction between them.
First, I am so happy that this series is set in a small town in Maine. I always seem to enjoy books set in a small town in Maine and this has proved to be the same. I love when you get a several side characters that really add to the story. When a setting is in a small town, you get that. I loved all the side characters but I’m cautious about Rhett. You’ll know why when you read this book.
Secondly, despite Boone and Peyton starting out not wanting relationships, their story never felt casual. That’s a good thing for me. I never like casual so I was happy to see these two were invested even if they didn’t think they were.
Boone drew me in right away. His physical description, the fact that he’s a detective and very protective, and even the fact that he rides a motorcycle. Peyton wasn’t really all that special but she was a nice person, got along with everyone and you do get a couple of fun girlfriends in Kinsley and Remy.
I enjoyed Boone and Peyton’s story and I’m looking forward to what’s to come next.
