A USA Today Hottest Book of the Summer for 2019! A Best Nonfiction Book for 2019 in Woman’s Day! One of Hello Giggles’s “Most Anticipated Books of 2019 to Add to Your Reading List”! “Just when I thought I knew everything about Tan, he hits me with this. His story is so heartwarming, and wickedly funny.” –Antoni Porowski In this heartfelt, funny, and touching memoir, one of the stars of … heartfelt, funny, and touching memoir, one of the stars of Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning smash-hit Queer Eye reveals how an Englishman raised in a traditionally religious home became a fashion icon–and the first openly gay, South Asian man on television–simply by being Naturally Tan.
In this heartfelt, funny, touching memoir, Tan France tells his origin story for the first time. With his trademark wit, humor, and radical compassion, Tan reveals what it was like to grow up gay in a traditional South Asian family, as one of the few people of color in South Yorkshire, England. He illuminates his winding journey of coming of age, finding his voice (and style!), and marrying the love of his life–a Mormon cowboy from Salt Lake City.
From one of the stars of Netflix’s runaway hit show Queer Eye, Naturally Tan is so much more than fashion dos and don’ts–though of course Tan can’t resist steering everyone away from bootcut jeans! Full of candid observations about U.S. and U.K. cultural differences, what he sees when you slide into his DMs, celebrity encounters, and the behind-the-scenes realities of “reality TV,” Naturally Tan gives us Tan’s unique perspective on the happiness to be found in being yourself.
In Tan’s own words, “The book is meant to spread joy, personal acceptance, and most of all understanding. Each of us is living our own private journey, and the more we know about each other, the healthier and happier the world will be.”

This was a fun book to read, I love the Netflix show and all the hosts so when I saw this I knew I had to read it. I liked learning more about Tan and how significant his appearing on the show meant to the South Asian community. The writing style is light and conversational and is very similar to how he talks on the show so it is a very easy book to read and i finished it quickly. In addition to the information about his life Tan included some tips on how to dress and this was presented in fun way. I loved this book and would recommend it anyone that is a fan of the Queer Eye show.

What a fun memoir!
An absolute joy to read!
This was a book that I was truly looking forward to this Summer. I adore the Queer Eye show and all of the members of the Fab 5. They never fail to cheer me up and give me all the feels while watching that delightful show. Thank you so much to the publisher for sending me an advanced copy for review.
If you are looking for a scandalous, tell-all book about Tan then you will be sorely disappointed. If you are wondering what it would be like to have a tea and a chat with this handsome Brit and learn a bit of his struggles growing up, his professional background and how he came to be on Queer Eye, then this will be your jam. Tan remains reserved when writing about himself and personal thoughts and I truly admire that. I loved how he explains to the reader how he felt out of place when they started filming QE.
It is usually tough to pick one highlight, and this book is no exception, and yet what stood out the most for me is his profound love and respect for his partner, Rob. I absolutely loved how clear that was in the tone of his writing and it made me tear up a number of times.
If you are on the fence about this book, I think it may be worth picking up the audiobook, I know I will be, as I think that is often the best way to read memoirs. Tone and emphasis make such a difference.
I was torn between tears of laughter and wanting to reach through the book to hug Tan. This is the perfect read, especially if you already love Tan France – I love him even more after reading his story, and I didn’t think that was possible. The writing is done in such a manner, that it’s almost like he’s sitting in a porch swing with you, just telling you about his life. You can picture his accent and I can’t wait to buy the audiobook of it!
