Nasty Bet is the second in The Anti-Hero Chronicles by Mika Lane and focuses on Leo Borroni from the first book in the series. This is a sinfully sexy read with an over the top alpha male and quirky, but strong young woman.
Leo has left the high rolling life of Las Vegas for the towering skyscrapers of New York City. He still playing different games with different woman, but this time he has made a nasty bet with one woman that may just give him a run for his money.
Maray is a strong, young college student trying her best to not mess her life up. After landing her scholarship and a ticket into a sorority house, all Maray needs now is to not fail her classes and too get a part-time job for some extra monies. Leo, like the man he is uses Maray’s situation against her, and the next thing she knows she’s in a world she is unfamiliar with.
Now, first thing first. Leo came off as such a major ass when I started this book, while reading he did indeed get better, but I was surprised at how annoyed I was at him when I first started. Maray is strong minded and willing to work her booty off for what she wants, but she knows she doesn’t fit in in sorority house life. I love her character and what she goes through in this book to find out what she truly wants.
The attraction between these two is steaming, a build up of emotions and their attraction grows. When danger comes calling Maray is thrust into the middle of it, can Leo make the choice? What is more important, Maray or his business?
Nasty Bet
The Anti-Hero Chronicles, Book 2
By: Mika Lane
Narrated by: Laurie West
Book 2 of the Anti-Hero Chronicles proves to be as much fun as the first! I thought Luca was going to be the one of the twins that I love, but Leo shows his warm, passionate side in his story, Nasty Bet. Maray is an ordinary girl, trying to make her way through college. She belongs to a sorority whose members are upscale and snooty. To keep up with them, she attempts to steal an expensive hand bag and Leo catches her. And our fun begins. He and his friends make a bet of things she will do, but in the midst of it all, she spends the most time with Leo. What I really love about this book is the transformation of Maray. She starts out a little mousey, and with a little guidance finds her inner self and confidence. Leo is the perfect match, with his over protectiveness and ability to see what she can become. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. It’s exciting, the couples are easy to become invested in and the action just makes this romantic suspense shine.
Laurie West continues her narration of the series and brings it all to life. She is a fantastic storyteller with a variety of voices that are easy on the ears and can be distinguished effortlessly. Loved this one too!

I just finished binge reading The Anti-Hero Chronicles 1-3 and I am seriously impressed and super stoked for Foolish Dare coming May 15th because there’s an on-going ARC storyline in this series and I must find out the who/why/when immediately!! LOL Technically, you can read these books in any order you want to and be okay, but if you’re anything like me, I’m betting you’re going to feel like you’re missing something when you read them if you don’t go in order. Plus, there is a bit of a bomb dropped on us about Leo and his brother Luca at the end of Dirty Game I’m sure we will get answers to at some point …..
In the first book of this series, Dirty Game, we got to know Leo Borroni very well , especially his sexual proclivities, so when the plot begins to unfold at the beginning of the book I wasn’t too surprised at how the meet went between Maray and Leo and the directions it took. Actually, I loved it because it meant Nasty Bet would more than likely be just as gloriously delicious and sexually decadent. It did not disappoint! *fans self*
I really loved this story. It was a story of growth and discovery for both Leo and Maray, not just a romance fiction journey to HEA. There’s a lot of depth to these characters and layers to the storyline and even though it reads quickly, it is not a quick read. I was thoroughly captivated and very much engaged in all of it. I am loving Mika Lane’s style and voice so much, I just cannot wait to read every book she has ever written!
Leo goes looking for a toy and finds his love
Nasty Bet is the second book in The Anti-Hero Chronicles series. I have read a number of Mika Lane’s previous books and this is a different “genre” of romance for her so I was not sure what to expect. I have found that a number of authors who switch over to a darker genre sometimes cannot pull it off. But no such case with this book. The story of Leo and Maray definitely has some darkness to it but not so much that it is oppressive.
The solid story-line is very engaging and fascinating, as sometimes you aren’t quite sure where you are going with this journey. I cannot say that I found a book boyfriend with Leo, as you wold have to be okay with all the violent and illegal things he does, but he does make for a fascinating read. Maray is just a young woman who is trying to fit in and not mess up while she is going to college. It makes it a bit hard when she is living in a sorority house with a lot of pampered and overly privileged spoiled girls and she is on a full scholarship and has to work part-time to make some extra cash.
Leo takes advantage of a situation and before she knows it Maray is thrust into a deal like no other. As he has her do things their attraction to each other grows until they cannot deny it. But when danger comes looking for Leo and Maray ends up being put in the middle he will have to decide what is more important, part of his illegal business or Maray.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Another fantastic read from a great author, she has fantastic writing style that draws you into her books and this one is no exception, great characters that draw you into their story keeping you hooked page after page! Look forward to reading more and I’d definitely recommend this book.

Ok Mika. What are going to me. I loved Marat and Leo’s story. It was packed full of action with what I assume is a HEA to boot. Maray has a good head in her shoulders, but doesn’t see what is in front of her until it is too late. Another awesome book you won’t regret reading.

This book was different than I have read before so I enjoyed it from start to finish. Maray wants to fit in so she shoplifts but she gets caught by Leo who makes her an interesting offer. I really enjoyed reading this story it was interesting.

It started as a game…
Mika Lane is a new author for me. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I love her work! This is definitely not your usual mob story. Oh sure, it has mafia characters (and I mean characters), bad guys, good guys, a beautiful gal and throw in a couple of bets and you a book that has it all love, hate, romance, heat and happiness. I would recommend this story for anyone.
This book was spectacular. In true Mika Lane fashion, never a disappointment. Maray is a college student with a free ride. She lives with sorority sisters that have plenty of disposable cash from mommy and daddy. Maray doesn’t have it like that. She works a minimum wage part-time job for extra cash. One particular day, her imagination gets the better of her to do something she’s never done before…shoplift. She just wants to fit in if only once. She almost gets away with stealing the evening bag from Saks. She is caught by someone who is going to make her life hard for awhile. Leo Barrino was just looking for someone like Maray to slip up. This book is a must read and I highly recommend.
The last line in Chapter 1: “Now it was time to have fun”.
What a story! I was fascinated with the ups and downs of this storyline. The book was different than most others that I’ve read. It held my attention from beginning to end. The storyline was well thought out and played like a movie in my head.
The characters interacted well with each other, even though I wanted to bop one of them in the head occasionally. The book had every emotion in it from steam to tears to laughter and fun. And of course, the happily ever after. This was an easy 5 STAR rating from me.
This is an interesting twist on the darker side of romance.
Maray is a college student on a full scholarship with work study. She’s living with sorority sisters and she is well aware of the differences between her and the others. Money. Feeling particularly inadequate after overhearing a conversation about her she does something she never thought she would. She shoplifts.
Now it wasn’t the store security that sees her, it’s Leo Borroni and he’s about to make her an offer she can’t refuse. Not if she doesn’t want to be charged with a felony.
Now Leo is an owner of an exclusive card club for high stakes poker. Frequently he and his business partners play a high stakes game of their own, just not with cards, with a person. Maray was about to become that person.
While essentially blackmail, the things Leo has her doing aren’t exactly legal either.
So many complications, a shopping spree, and the realization he’s falling for her combine into a page-turning read with just the right amount of sizzle and a touch of drama.
5 Contented Purrs for Mika!
Just finished this awesome read by Mika Lane and I hated to read the last word!! Leo and Maray’s love story was filled with so much that it was just right. It pulled at different emotions and kept me engaged…wanting to see what happened next. Im loving this series and can’t wait to read the next one. Great job!! Still wondering what happened to that Saks bag…

Maray is a college student working to make her way through college. Her friends have plenty of money to do as they please but she doesn’t have that luxury. She is shopping when she decides to shoplift. She’s caught by Leo Barroni, a mafia man that was looking for someone like Maray to get caught up in his web. How will Maray get out of her predicament? What will Leo force her to do? A sexy read.
Leo gets his own story here with Maray. This took it up a notch from the first book and I couldn’t put it down. Not only is it dirty like you would expect with some of Leo’s desires, but the characters actually go through some growth so it gives the story more depth.
Maray and Leo’s meet cute is anything but.
She is tired of the sorority sisters looking down their nosrs at her. She earned everything she has their parents foot their bills.
One day she decided the heck with it and does the unthinkable something tssh and bold. Which catches the eye of Leo. In tne beginning it is all a game with her until feelings start to develop. Shopping sprees fast cars romantic dinners. She gets caught up with it all. Until reality sets in. Now its Leo fighting for a chance.

Maray a college student on a scholarship has just made a huge mistake and Leo cought her at it theft at Saks fifth Avenue. This is a fun read humorous and slightly dangerous you have a very Alpha arch type who has allot of money and to much time on his hands.
Leo and his Associates often engage in some interesting bets ones involving pretty girls and the winner gets the girl but now he has a problem he is now extremely invested in his bet he wants Maray.
Maray I shouldn’t have taken the bag but I was so tired of being a charity case all the other girls are rich me I have a scholarship and now I no they feel sorry for me. That’s why I took it but Leo doesn’t care about that he has and offer for me how badly do I want out of this sinful deal the shopping trips the arrogant but sexy Leo have got me wondering weather I’m coming or going I just hope its Leo I end up with.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
Change of life
It is a good romance, very well written, mixing a little action, questioning allowing the heroine to question herself in a criminal environment that she does not know, guided by a man who makes her discover.
Maray is a student and to be able not to pass for a profiteer with the girls of her sorority who already disdains her without telling her openly, she decides to try to steal the elements of her outfit for an outing, but she is caught by Leo, a criminal who makes her believe that he is the police. On the spot, he decides that she will be his to play, and that by the realization of actions which generates bets on that she will make it or not. In doing so, Maray discovers the adrenaline of petty theft, petty revenge, all guided by Leo who attracts her very strongly. Faced with this totally different, but not completely unpleasant world, Maray questions herself about the choices that others have advised her all her life.
