Posey Adler is coming home. After a devastating journey for what she mistakenly thought was true love, she is saying to hell with men and love forever. As the Nashville Assassins’s new assistant coach for special teams, Posey is ready to focus on her job and have the attention on her for a change. She’s been haunted by her place in her sister’s shadow, but this is her chance to shine and force … her family to take notice. But in order to make a name for herself, she’s going to have to go toe-to-toe with her team’s leading power play scorer.
Boon Hoenes lives for special teams. The power play is his favorite thing about the game. He loves having that advantage over his opponent. And most of the time, it’s his quick thinking that sends the puck to the back of the goal when he’s on the ice. Off the ice, however, no amount of quick thinking prepared his heart for being dumped by his college sweetheart. Boon has sworn off women, but when Posey Adler comes onto his ice—and kicks him off his beloved power play—he decides she’s one woman he doesn’t want to swear off.
They’ve both been hurt, but instead of going in for the penalty kill, Boon is ready to convince Posey their hearts are the secret to how they’ll win.
How they’ll score the ultimate goal.
A forever kind of love.

Posey Adler has always lived in the shadow of her older sister. She was never the pretty, petite girl that all the boys flocked to. She was a tall, curvy tomboy who could play hockey better that most of the boys. Even though she can out play most anyone she meets on the ice, Posey’s passion is in play making. When a humiliating heartbreak sends her back home to Nashville, she agrees to take over the position as the new power play coach for the Assassins. The power play has been giving the team lots of trouble as of late and she thinks the team’s leading scorer, Boon Hoenes, is the source of the problem. When these two go head to head, sparks fly both on and off the ice.
There are not enough stars in the world for me to rate this book with! 5 stars simply are not enough! My all-time favorite couple will forever be Shea and Elli, but oh my heart, Posey and Boon have just tied with them for 1st place! This couple must overcome so many obstacles including past heartbreak, self-doubt, self-image, and family expectations in order to see that their love is what is most important. Posey and Boon learn that what makes them special to each other is what draws their other half to them. No matter what self-doubts they have, no matter what their family thinks, their love is strong enough to survive even the darkest days.
Swooning with the Boon!
Boon Hoenes has swept me off my feet and I don’t want it to end.
Posey Adler is so strong and fierce just like her momma.
When these two young ones meet, you don’t know which way is up or down. Chemistry is off the charts, but can they make it work.
Can Posey learn to open her heart so that she can have that ever lasting love like her momma and daddy? Can Boon learn to trust and know that he can have it all?
Let this next gen take you on the ride of your life.
All the stars for Power Play!!
Just when I think Toni Aleo is at her absolute best, she blows my mind yet again! I haven’t loved a heroine as much as Posey Adler since…well, her mom!
Posey feels like she’s lived her life in the shadow of her sister, but now, with a broken heart I her chest and her dream job in her hands, she decides it is her time to shine. Watching Posey grow into herself, finding her inner strength and confidence off the ice, is such a beautiful, powerful story.
Boon Hoenes is a man scorned. His fiancée cheated and left him for another man. He lives for his job and his friends. His world gets rocked when he meets his new coach for special teams. Boon is a total delight in the hero department! A bit standoffish and awkward at first, then full on swoonworthy hero. His interactions with Posey are some of the best I’ve ever read.
I loved watching them grow and strengthen their relationships with themselves individually, with each other, their friends, and families.
Another 5 star read for the Assassins, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!!
I am always excited to see another Toni Aleo book being released but even more so when I found out this was Posey’s story. Now I never thought anyone could top Shea and Elli for me but how wrong was I! A huge 5 stars from me! Posey feels like she lives in the shadow of older sister and mum. Posey doesn’t think she is anyone special, everyone loves her sister. Posey decides to run after a boy and turn downs her dream job in the process as assistant special teams coach to the assassins but when that doesn’t go to plan she heads home broken hearted where she has to listen to everyone telling her how stupid she was and they thought she was better than that. When Posey and Boon meet for the first time there are fireworks! Boon doesn’t understand why she bothers him so much. Posey thinks he’s hot, finds him intriguing but thinks he isn’t right for Power Play! I don’t want to say anymore with giving anything away but you will not be disappointed. There were a few tears along the way and some angina episodes from Shea! Another amazing story and I can’t wait to see who is next! I was lucky enough to win an early copy and I am voluntarily leaving this review.
Posey and Boon are my new favorite Assassins couple. They’re story is pure romance and just made me smile the whole time. After Posey feels humiliated after beating her heart to the man she feels she loves, she comes home and starts working as an assistant special teams coach for the Assassins. There she encounters Boon, a special teams player. Six months previous, Boon’s heart was broken when he found out his childhood sweetheart cheated on him. These two initially clash, despite being attracted to one another. I loved seeing how they met, started talking and dating, to falling in love. They each had their own issues and insecurities. I loved how they effectively communicated their feelings and worked their issues out. I know I just finished this story, but I am so ready to start a re-read.
OMG! This book was amazing. I read it not once but twice and I am 100% sure it won’t stay at two 🙂 I can easily say this was my favorite 2019 read and most probably one of my all time favorites. I wanted to write my review the moment I finished the book for the first time, but I was afraid that my review won’t make justice to the book. I am still not sure how this will go but here I go 🙂
I love and adore Shea and Elli. I don’t even remember how many times I went back and reread Taking Shots. It was my safe heaven, which gave me hope, happiness and took me to an amazing journey every time. I never thought I could possibly love another couple as much as I love Shea and Elli, till reading Power Play.
Posey Rose Adler is the daughter of legendary Shea Adler and owner of Assassins hockey team Elli Adler. She is smart, beautiful and strong. She thinks she is in love with Maxim, the billet boy and when Shea sends him away, for the first time in her life she decides to jump into action and follow her heart. Unfortunately, her journey to happily-ever-after ends up with a broken heart. Being the daughter of two legends and also sister of a Broadway star, she always felt invisible. By becoming special teams’ assistant coach for Assassins, she wants to make her parents proud and prove everyone that she is best at what she does and for the first time in her life outshine her sister. However, her priorities changes a bit thanks to Boon. Boon Zachariah Hoenes is winger for the Assassins. He is hardworking, loyal, super hot and sweet. Our sweet boy’s heart has been shattered by his cheater of an ex-fiancee and now all he is left with is hockey. He loves being part of the special teams but his new assistant coach doesn’t believe he is good enough to be in the special teams. He is happy to work hard and prove her wrong but there is an itsy bitsy problem, there is something about her that bugs him and also he believes she hates him. It takes tons of bugging by Wes to realize that the bugging feeling is because he is insanely attracted to her. The chemistry and attraction between Posey and Boon is explosive. Once the rocky start is in the past, you start seeing how right they are for each other. Watching her parents love for each other from the front seat all her life, her relationship expectations are pretty hard to reach but Boon exceeds them all. Their support for each others’ success was amazing. It feels like if I don’t stop writing, I will let all the cats out of bag so I will jump to other characters in the book and leave you to find out more of Boon and Posey’s swoon-worthy relationship.
You will see more of Shelli and Aidan since Shelli is Posey’s sister and Aidan is one of Boon’s best friends. From the bits and pieces I got from Juicy Rebound and Dump and Chase, I always thought Shelli and Posey didn’t like each other but this book will show you it is not the case. It was great to see how much they care for each other. As always Elli and Shea are AMAZING 🙂 Shea, his ‘‘daughters’ dating-induced’’ angina and his dramatics were hilarious. You will see a bit of boys of Adler-clan, Owen, Evan and Quinn. I am really curious about them, especially Quinn. Also, I am dying to learn more about Wesley McMillan, aka Wes, Boon’s best friend and his past. He was also crushing Aiden’s little sister Stella. I am not sure if I should like her or hate her, so jury is still out. Annnnndddd villain of Dump and Chase, Asher Brooks is back in town and I really liked him in this book 🙂 Last but not least Allison Titov, who is Posey’s best friend. Thanks to her and her mistakenly thought true love, we get the story of Jakob and Harper in One Timer but I get a feeling she will find her happily-ever-after soon, maybe with Asher? 🙂 Yeah, I think this covers most of the side characters LOL!
It was one of the hardest reviews I ever wrote. This book is amazing and I feel like whatever I say won’t be enough to convey my feelings. I hope I wasn’t all over the place that much 🙂 Power Play is captivating, sweet, inspiring, emotional, funny and sizzling hot story that you cannot do anything other than being drawn in by the story.
Would I recommend this book: Yes
Would I re-read this book: Twice already, more to come 🙂
Would I read future books by this author: Yes
Power Play is the second book in the Nashville Assassins: Second Generation series and it is everything you would expect to see in a book by Toni Aleo! It is a well written, wonderful love story with the perfect combination of a hot hockey player and a sassy woman finding love while the classic game of hockey brings them together to find their happily ever after!
Posey Adler is the daughter of Ellie and Shea who you meet in the original Assassins series! It is now Posey’s turn to find the man of her dreams after her heart was broken by the man she thought she loved. When she lands her dream job of a special teams coach she wasn’t really looking for a new relationship when Boon landed in front of her. As a coach she isn’t supposed to date a player, but there was something about Boon that she couldn’t resist and sometimes the best things happen when you least expect them too.
Boon and Posey are perfect for each other. They have friendship and chemistry which are a good base to start their relationship, but now they just have to find a way to tell everyone else how they feel about each other so they can openly share their love.
I WAS WRONG…
I thought I knew my favorite Toni Aleo book…I was wrong. I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN! Fallon and Lucas held my heart for many years (shh…they still kind of do). I believed them to be the only couple to hold it forever. They were it for me. I always loved a good second chance story, but then this book just came up and slapped me in the feels. All the feels.
Posey and all of the Adlers have held a special place in my heart since book one with Elli and Shea. Their story was always in my top list of favorites. Their emotions and story were so heart wrenching and real, I didn’t know if she could top it (except my lovely Fallon and Lucas). However, the relationship and show of growth between Posey and Boon is phenomenal. I think even better than Elli and Shea. I know. I know. Impossible. But just wait until you read this!
Posey and Boon are everything. They are truly the couple to strive for in real life. Boon is the perfect man. Even though he had been spurred from his past relationship, he didn’t immediately expect Posey to cheat on him as well. He still treated her like she was his queen (because she was/is) and didn’t make her do things she didn’t want to do. He was there for her through all the ups and downs. Especially with all her medical issues. I feel like most men would balk at the amount that Boon went through with Posey and would wonder if she were worth it, but not Boon. He knew she was his one and only and was going to do anything in his power to fight to keep it. I mean, come one, if that doesn’t make you swoon, I don’t know what would.
Another aspect I love about the Assassin’s next generation books is that we don’t just get new stories from the children we read about growing up in other books, but we get little glimpses into the lives of some of our past favorites. I love and laugh at Shea’s “angina” every time it happens. When I was growing up my dad would say things like that as well and it would always make me laugh and roll my eyes at his over-dramatized reactions to things. It is a very real story for me, and I assume anyone reading. There is so much going on that it would be hard to not be able to find something that is relatable to your life. Which is why reading Toni’s books are so powerful. They’re real. They don’t just show the “happily-ever-after” that people dream of. They show the hard times that you have to go through to get that “happily-ever-after” and that’s what I love the most about them.
Can’t wait for the next one! Please let it be Ally and Asher. 🙂
Any good power play, which happens when a team has an advantage on the other team for a set amount of time due to penalty, ends with a goal. Toni Aleo definitely scored a goal on this one!
Posey has always felt like she came in second when it came ton most things like boys. You would understand if you had a sister who was Shelli Adler. Posey didn’t like to stand out or dress up like Shelli and she sure did not like to do the things Shelli did. Posey was the one who could draft up a hockey play that made grown men drool over and she just graduated college. After deciding she will go and make a play for a guy and it doesn’t work, she comes home and decides that she will jump I to the family business and prove that she deserves t be in it despite her last name. She will prove that she can work as a special teams assistant coach in the NHL as a young woman. She just has to believe it. Her family seems to believe it. Why can’t she?
Boon Hoenes just had his heart trounced by a woman and her does not want to jump into another relationship and give a woman another chance to do that again any time in the near future. When he sees his new coach, he is not happy. Eventually both Boon and Posey start to connect both on the ice and off of it.
I love the way Toni Aleo weaves all of her characters into her stories and even though you do not have to read the other books to know what is happening, it does make for a great family atmosphere. They both have crazy families and Boon gets to face crazy Shea Adler which we have been waiting for since he had daughters. There is also a lot of humor! Posey and Boon are great and their story is a much read!
Book 2 in the Nashville Assassins: Next Generation and what a great series this is shaping up to be, in this book we catch up with Posey Adler and her new dream job as part of the special teams coaching staff at the Assassins.
Boon Hoenes and Posey bash heads over the power plays she has put in place for the team but it’s not just about the power plays, as they say there is a fine line between love and hate so do this couple hate each other or is it love they really feel…..
Boon can’t get the sassy and feisty Posey out of his head, she is on his mind on the ice as well as off but he has been burned by a previous relationship so is he ready to take a leap of faith, one that could not only mess with his love life it could ruin his career. Posey thought she knew what love was all about but after opening her heart to the wrong man all she wants to do is concentrate on her career but what is it with this man named Boon who seems determined to get inside her head and her heart.
As Boon and Posey become friends their feelings grow into more but falling in love could ruin both their careers and let’s not forget Shea Adler who will want a say in his daughters love life …..
This book has all the feels, I smiled, I laughed and my heart broke as this couple went through so much before they got the HEA they so deserve. A smart sassy girl on the outside struggles with self esteem and it takes a man like Boon to prove she is a special lady. This is a love story that touches on vulnerability as well as showing us that love with the right person can make us stronger. This very talented author really put her heart on the line with his beautifully written romance. I loved everything about this book and I’m sure you will too.
5 star Review Power Play (Nashville Assassins: Next Generation #2) by Toni Aleo
This is the second book in her latest series and is Boon Hoenes and Posey Adler’s story. Both Posey and Boon have been hurt in the past and neither are looking for a new relationship. However all that is about to change.
Posey feels the time is right to shine and show her family that she deserves to be a part of the family business, finally enabling her to step out from behind her sister’s shadow. With this in mind, she returns home to take on a job as a special teams assistant with the Assassins.
Posey and Boon go head to head over the power play and despite himself, Boon is intrigued by the feisty and sassy Posey. In fact she captures his attention so much, that he feels that she is worth the risk of getting hurt again.
As the friendship between them grows, the chemistry between them builds until neither of them can resist. I loved the characters, they were easy to relate too and I can easily see them as friends.
There were times that my heart broke for Posey as she struggled with the belief that she is never going to be good enough, her lack of self esteem off the ice showed her vulnerability. I loved how supportive Boon was as she struggled, totally swoon worthy.
You cannot help but be drawn in by the story Ms. Aleo weaves. I really enjoyed Toni Aleo’s style of writing and Power Play was an entertaining story which hooked me from the first to the last chapter.
I don’t even know what to say – I LOVED Power Play! I love Posey and Boon so much, they’re way up there as one of my favorite Assassin couples. Posey is one of the strongest female characters I’ve read, and at 21 years old she was very mature in her career and interactions with others, and didn’t take advantage of her family name. I loved how Boon stuck up for her (although she usually didn’t need it) and cared for her while allowing her shine on her own. Some of the scenes had me literally laughing out loud and others had me trying to read faster to see what happened. I also loved seeing Shea Adler again – he cracks me up as a dad of girls (dying to see how he is once the boys find their soulmates lol)!
Posey is the girl who can see the plays on the ice like no one else, it in her blood by having her parents be the owners of the Assassin NHL team. Boon loves hockey and playing for the Assassin is his job that he loves. Posey and Boon clash from the moment they meet, both having lost at the game of love before. There is just something that draws them together that is more then hockey. They make each other laugh and its like they are each other person.
Aleo humor is all over this book. The pantry, target, angina, etc. The reader got to catch up with their favorite couple Shea and Ellie which brings us full circle. Plus so many more couples the reader has grown to love over the years.I can’t wait to see more of the next generation of the Assassins.
Love the second generation of this series. Posey is smart, fierce and a great coach. Boon is trying to find his niche and he is wonderful hockey player. Posey wants to make him even a better player. They both have some baggage with their past relationships. They both are afraid to give their heart away. Posey has self esteem issues she fears she is not good enough. She fears he might get tired of her. Boon has fallen hard for Posey. Posey wants a man to protect her and look at her like she is only one in room. Posey totally blossoms under Boon. They have a powerful chemistry. If you love sports romance novels you have to start reading Toni’s books. She makes all the characters, places and events come to life. I am really hoping Wes’s story is next.
Up until this book I didn’t think anyone could dethrone Shea and Elli as my favourite Assassins couple but Posey and Boon definitely give them a run for their money. I loved Posey’s character she is a mix of both parents and has a stubborn determined nature but with a soft heart of gold. Boon is just swoon worthy I adored the way he loved and supported her. The story was romantic sexy and very emotional but always felt real. Toni continues to build on the original series with the next generation’s stories and I can’t wait for the next one.
OMG get ready for what I like to call, the Boon swoon!! Every time I think I couldn’t possibly love another couple as much as Shea & Elli Adler, Toni Aleo proves me wrong! But at least it’s one of their kids who does it this time! Posey Adler & Boon Hoenes may not be perfect but they sure are perfect for each other and they took me on a fantastic ride from beginning to end. I genuinely love their story so much!!! Posey is so real and vulnerable but so strong at the same time. I absolutely love her. She feels like she has lived in the shadow of her sister Shelli for so long, but it is definitely her turn to shine!! And Boon, well don’t even get me started, I ADORE him. Hence, the Boon swoon. Yes he is that incredible. He sees Posey, I mean really sees her, from their first meeting. This is such an amazing book! I am so happy we get treated to this next generation of Nashville Assassins as they are just as special as their parent series. Toni is definitely one of my go-to’s for hockey romance. This is a must read!! All the stars!!!
I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Power Play since it was announced. Posey and Boon had me hooked since the first chapter. These two characters are so relatable. I have absolutely loved seeing the Assassins children growing up and finding their place in the world.
Posey and Boon are definitely swoon worthy. I love how protective he is of her. I love that Aleo writes her books in a way that gives readers insight to the character’s thoughts and their processes. I can not say enough about this book and how much I love it. As always, no spoilers. Seriously, go read this book, you will not be disappointed.
I started this book and couldn’t put it down. I adored Posey and Boone. They reminded me so much of Shea and Ellie. Boone has been done wrong by a cheating fiancé, and Posey is reeling from a broken heart after putting herself out there for a guy. But when these two come together, magic happens. Their chemistry is off the charts from the very start. I loved every scene, and every page, but one of my favorites has to be when Shea Adler finds out that Posey and Boone are together. Let’s just say that he not only has angina when it comes to his daughters dating, but also some rage.
My first, my last, my everything….
Posey Adler and Boon Hoenes’ story was addictive from the start. I am not into a lot of sports, but I do love hockey. Toni Aleo brings the sport alive in her descriptions of the game. Posey comes back home disheartened after being shot down after putting her heart on her sleeve. She does not need this added stress in her life right now. She has been given the Assistant Coach’s position for Special Teams for the Assassins hockey team. She has always been in the shadow of her sister, but now it’s her time to shine. She is not interested in any personal relationships, but that all changes when she falls for Boon.
Boon Hoenes is a winger for the Assassins. He is gorgeous, sexy and he has also had relationship issues. He is stunned when he gets hit in the feels with Posey. She is super hot looking, strong and has a mind of her own. She knows hockey like the back of her hand, after all her dad is Shea Adler, it’s in the blood. Boon is in a dilemma as Shea is very protective of his girls and would not be impressed to find out that Boon is interested in his baby girl. This story has a lot of angst and humor between the two families. It was fun to read about the second generation kids. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Let’s just say WOW I’m totally Speechless. The Nashville Assassins Series has always been one of my favorite series but when you meet Boon Hoenes you will understand why.
Boon Hoenes is a player for the Nashville Assassins, he’s a guy whose life is in a funk, he’s been cheated on by his fiancée but when he meets the newest coach for the Assassins he doesn’t know if he should hate her or try and get to know her.
Posey Adler is coming off some heartbreak of her own but when the opportunity to be a special teams coach for the Assassins she takes it. She has always felt she lived in the shadow of her older sister but by doing this job she feels she can make a name for herself. Meeting the team has her nervous but when Boon Hoenes catches her eye she can’t help feel the pull towards him almost immediately.
We will watch Boon & Posey figure out everything off the ice and on. They will have to go through somethings together and get the approval from their families especially hockey legend Shea Adler but they know if they can win them over they can find that lane that will lead them to a new beginning and a HEA.
