Posey Adler is coming home. After a devastating journey for what she mistakenly thought was true love, she is saying to hell with men and love forever. As the Nashville Assassins’s new assistant coach for special teams, Posey is ready to focus on her job and have the attention on her for a change. She’s been haunted by her place in her sister’s shadow, but this is her chance to shine and force … her family to take notice. But in order to make a name for herself, she’s going to have to go toe-to-toe with her team’s leading power play scorer.
Boon Hoenes lives for special teams. The power play is his favorite thing about the game. He loves having that advantage over his opponent. And most of the time, it’s his quick thinking that sends the puck to the back of the goal when he’s on the ice. Off the ice, however, no amount of quick thinking prepared his heart for being dumped by his college sweetheart. Boon has sworn off women, but when Posey Adler comes onto his ice—and kicks him off his beloved power play—he decides she’s one woman he doesn’t want to swear off.
They’ve both been hurt, but instead of going in for the penalty kill, Boon is ready to convince Posey their hearts are the secret to how they’ll win.
How they’ll score the ultimate goal.
A forever kind of love.

I absolutely love hockey romance…Power Play exceeded my expectations!! Power Play is the story of Boon Hoenes and Posey Adler.
Boon and Posey have both been hurt in the past, Boon when his fiancee cheated on him and Posey when she was rejected by the guy she loved. When Posey becomes a coach for the Nashville Assassins she meets Boon who plays for the Assassins. Posey pushes Boon both on and off the ice to be better and the sparks between these two are explosive. Posey feels like she is living in her sisters shadow and Boon shows her she’s beautiful inside and out.
This was an awesome story that shows us to be confident and not to compare people to those in our past. It’s a story filled with a lot of love and definitely worth reading!!!
OMG. I swear that every time I write a review for one of Toni’s books I begin the same way. Her writing is like good wine with age comes goodness or in this case each new book she gets better than the one before. This one will make you swoon like Eli and Shea’s book but tens times more.
I don’t care what Posey says she is just like her mother with her insecurities on the inside with a strong façade on the outside. But slowly Boon rises her up giving her the extra nudge and confidence she needs. And just like Book Posey gives it right back to Boon making him that much better. Together these two are perfection together; off and on the ice. I can’t tell you how much I loved this book to pieces. And that cover. Wowza. That is so hot and perfect for this couple.
Toni writes amazing hockey romance stories to keep you turning the pages and coming back for more. She put so much heart and emotion into this story I could feel it jumping off the pages. You will not be disappointed when you pick this book up.
I cannot wait for more of this series and these amazing “kids”.
Before I say anything about the story, I have to ask this of anyone who’s read Dump and Chase … raise your hand if you even thought for one minute you would totally and absolutely fall madly in love with Posey, ever! If you raised your hand, then welcome to the club! But guess what? We must dismantle the club. Whatever you may or may not have thought of her … banish it from your mind immediately, because she is about to steal your heart! Well, she stole mine LOL
I haven’t picked up a Toni Aleo book in the last couple of years that was not a great read. The original Assassins series was not my favorite back in the day, and it caused me to not pick up one of her books for a long time. But then I did …. And as they say, the rest is history! She’s a go-to author for me now and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
Now, a few thoughts on Power Play. It’s a well thought out story with real and relatable characters. The chemistry between Posey and Boon was incredible from the very beginning. Their growth from friendship to sooooo much more was amazing to read because it was natural. That’s where the relatable part comes in. There’s nothing about this story that couldn’t happen to you or me and I’d venture to guess that some it probable already has. That’s my favorite thing to read as part of a journey. I feel the best when I read a story and think it could happen to me. And not just a farfetched could. I’m talking about an organic could. And this story had it in spades. I felt good the entire time I read it and my heart was happy! Feel good stories for the #win!
Toni, you did it again! I’m utterly in awe with this book. I’ve loved all of Toni’s book and while there are a few of my guys who share spots for the best book boyfriend, no one has been in able to share the mantel with Shea until now.
Posey is a girl who doesn’t realize her worth and how amazing she is. She feels like the oddball out in her family and she feels like she doesn’t shine next to Shelli. She’s simply, Posey. In a lot of ways, she reminds me of her mom. Both incredible women not realizing how precious they are.
Enter in mini Shea, I mean Boon. He’s a guy who resembles so many characteristics of Shea. It’s why I think Posey never settled down before. She had such great examples of what love is that she refused to settle for anything less than the example she had.
Boon is a guy that is just easy to get along with. He’s a great guy with an even better heart. It’s thoughtful and caring and just loves her. He doesn’t care about anything else except helping Posey realize they amazing woman she truly is.
As a couple, they challenge each other. She pushes him to be the best hockey player there is and he challenges her off the ice. They really are the perfect match. It’s one of the sweetest books Toni has ever written. I give it 5 plus stars! I can’t wait to see what happens next in the Assassins world.
The Assasins next gen is heating up with Posey & Boon! I loved reading about the next Adler girl to fall in love with a hot, hockey hunk with a heart of gold! Getting to watch the mighty Shea Adler loose his mind over his daughter’s love lives is hilarious. We got to revisit old characters and fall in love with a whole group of new ones. I’m loving this next generation! Must read!
Ok real talk…. i love Posey’s book more than Shelli’s. No one hate me now. Boon was great. But i seriously did love see Shea and Ellie again. One of my top favorites of these characters. Shea once again shows how much he’s a great and protective father. It was so nice watching Posey grew into her coach position. I loved Boon’s best friend Wes. So funny but i loved how he had Boon’s back the entire time! Such a great story i loved it and im excited to see whats to come for the assassin’s next generation!
Toni Aleo hits it in the net with Power Play (Nashville Assassins: Next Generation #2). Posey Adler is the new special teams’ coach. Boon Hoenes loves playing on special teams. However, Posey is not sure Boon has what it takes to keep his spot. Despite their conflict, they cannot deny their attraction to each other. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.
I loved this story. Both Posey and Boon have been hurt in the past. They have confidence issues, but outsiders would never know it. They both love hockey. They are driven. They are an adorable couple. Posey has always felt that she lived in her older sister Shelli’s shadow. Now she is trying to prove herself. Boon has his own struggles. They both grow as they develop their relationship.
As always, Toni Aleo does an amazing job with this novel. The story takes an unexpected heartbreaking turn. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters. They are genuine. I love this new series. I enjoy reading about the next generation now that they are growing up. It’s fun having read about them as kids in the Assassins series and seeing how they turn out. I highly recommend this book to followers of the Assassins series and to people who enjoy sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This book… it was so much of what I expect out of Toni and so much more. She continues to deliver in a way that makes me feel the characters, see myself in them and want to be their best friend. Posey was incredibly relatable to me, feeling like she was simply existing in her family and knowing that although they love her, she doesn’t feel like she can live up to the expectations she thinks are on her and probably won’t ever be as good as them. I felt that so much, I really enjoyed how this book dissected the Adler family dynamics as well as the relationship with Boon.
Boon, this guy is who dedicates himself to everything and everyone in his life, unfortunately this bites him in the ass when he is hurt by the women he planned to spend the rest of his life with. He doesn’t go off the deep end but has shut himself off to the possibility of finding someone to be his forever when he finds himself fiercely attracted to the new coach who seems hellbent on calling him out and torturing him in practice.
Posey put her heart on the line and laid her cards on the table by professing her feelings for someone who threw them back at her as if they weren’t worth a second thought. Posey is a bad ass when it comes to strategy and hockey, as the youngest special teams coach she has a lot to prove. While Boon comes to terms with his new feelings he keeps getting turned down. Posey doesn’t realize when Boon is making a move because no one cared enough to try with her before now, when she realizes he wants her all bets are off. Their physical attraction moves quickly and is off the charts sexy, but the friendship and support they give each other is couple goals. This book is HOT but it took a turn to what I did not expect and the way they pull for each other and stand up against anything standing in their way makes this a book I haven’t stopped thinking about since I turned the last page.
This has become my new favorite story from this second generation. I knew from the cover that I’d adore this book. And I couldn’t have been more right. Posey is absolutely adorable and totally relatable. Boon is sexy and manly but we get to see his softer side at times, and im totally in love with him. Together, they’re incredibly steamy and super adorable!! The storyline was so well done and totally brings out all the feels. I absolutely couldn’t get enough of these two and I can’t wait for the next book, just hoping for a glimpse of more of these two!
Toni Aleo has done it again. She’s returned to the children of fan favorites, in this case, Posey, the daughter of Shea and Elli, and gave her a beautiful love story. Posey, the second daughter, often overshadowed by her talented sister, has ups and downs in this story. She starts out in love with someone else and when that goes wrong, has to put her life back together. She gets a new job and has to struggle to prove herself and keep her emotions from interfering. Including emotions towards one of the players she’s coaching, Boon.
What I really enjoyed about Power Play, aside from the relationship between Boon and Posey, is watching Posey grow as a character. She makes very clear mistakes, ones that I could see myself making, but she learns from them and grows.
Boon and Posey together are a match made in heaven. If you don’t believe me, read this quote:
We have endless conversations, and when we’ve covered everything, we talk about lint. I’m not even kidding. The other night, I looked up at her ceiling, and I was confused by the dust on it. It’s a new place, and there shouldn’t be dust up there. She assumes it’s from the lint trap in her laundry closet, and I agreed. Seriously, it’s the most mundane thing but we talked about it.
Just to hear each other.
The love they have for each other and the strength of their relationship gets tested but they manage to stay strong. Their relationship is beautiful and ranks high on my list of favorite Toni Aleo couples.
OMG! Seriously, Toni continues to create stories that you can’t help but get hooked on and fall for the characters. Reading Power Play is like watching an actual power play happen during a hockey game, it is fast, keeps you on the edge of your seat, cheering for your favorite player, and emotions are all over the place. Posey and Boon may be my one of my new top fave characters that Toni has ever written. The story pulls you in from the start and you can’t but help but feel for Posey and Boon, these two have been through somethings that have shed some light on things they may not have realized until now. Then these two meet and you feel that pull between the two. Posey and Boon take you one heartfelt, emotional journey that is filled with good laughs. Read this book, you won’t be able to put it down.
I heart Posey and Boon!!!!
I LOVE how relatable these two characters are. My sweet Posey is confident and self assured in many aspects of her life except where it really matters, her self image. Her inner monologues are like listening to my past self. The fat one, the other sister, the one guys use to get close to others… I have felt and lived it all….
Boon is a kick ass confident, hardworking, dedicated hockey player. But he’s also been burned, and watching his insecurities nearly overtake him is heart breaking. I love how Toni wrote this character. Like I said, very relatable. Lord I have been there. Letting my past hinder my future. It breaks my heart to see myself in Boon as well as Posey.
This book has jumped to my top 5 list of 2019. Watching Boon and Posey nearly kill each other as they fall in love was fun!! But what really makes this book special to me was the mirror it shoved in my face and the reminder that there is someone special out there for all of us, and sometimes we need to step back and see ourselves through their eyes instead of our own.
I you Toni.
4.5 Stars
Posey is the second child in the Adler and has always felt that she was loved by her family but felt shadowed by her beautiful and talented sister. She doesn’t blame Shelli, it is just in her nature to stay back out of the lime light. Though she is confident on the ice and in her playmaking, she never wants to be the centre of attention. Struggling with her health as her mom has most of her life, she feels she is less desirable than others. While fighting the hurt of a lost love, she is given a wonderful opportunity to help coach the special team and give the Assassin’s a power play that will help them win.
Boon is in his glory playing for the Assassin’s, what more does a boy raised by a single mom hope for in his life. Sure he had to work his ass off to get here but with the help of a great coach, who went above the normal to help him get where he wanted. Loving the life and living the dream, playing hockey, hanging with the guys, what more could he ask for. When the new coach assistant starts to ride him hard to get the play right, he begins to second guess his ability. But he also realizes that he likes the sparing and the tension that practice brings.
But… she is the owners daughter, a new coach. This can’t work can it? Can they work together and have a relationship too?
The chemistry and spark between these two characters was high from the very beginning. I loved that he helps Posey see that she is her own person and very beautiful in her own way. Watching Boon fight for what he knows will make him happy in the end.
This is a standalone in a series and can be read on it’s own. For the series followers, it is great seeing some old characters, and trying to figure out who might be next to get their story.

I have never not loved anything Toni has wrote but this is hands down my most favorite book of hers and the best book I have read all year!! I love Posey so hard and it was a beautiful love story with her and Boon and so relatable. It shows us a real relationship with the ups and downs and our feelings when we’re uncertain. I was so upset when I came to the last page bc I didn’t want it to stop. Please make them have another book
A penalty of hearts makes a power play for love. Aleo is back to lay claim to emotions by seducing her way into our hearts. Power Play takes aim at heartache and scores gold. For Posey and Boon, hockey may be the name of the game, but passion is what these lonely hearts are aiming for. Heat, heart and humor set off sparks both on and off the icein this captivating read. Aleo delivers another perfect 10.
Power Play is the second book in the Nashville Assassins: Next Generation series. This is Posey Adler (Ellie and Shea’s daughter) and Boon Hoenes’ book. Both have been burned and have had to deal with their share of heartache. Neither has any interest in a relationship and both want to focus on their careers. Posey has been in her sister shadow for was told long, now she is the Assassins assistant coach and it is her time to shine. Boon lives for special teams and now must prove that he has what it takes. What neith counted on was their intense attractions. Can a coach and a player who have both been hurt in the past make it work?
Posey is a strong girl. She has two awesome parents that show her to be strong and go after what she wants. She puts it all on the line and does that but it doesn’t turn out the way she planned. So she changes her outlook and does what she’s meant to do. She makes plays for the special teams for the Assassins. It doesn’t matter that Elli is her mom, she’s amazing what she does and knows she can make a difference.
In comes the special team and she makes them work on the power play. She’s already noticed Boon but now she’s noticing him for a different reason. Can he make her see that he’s got what it takes to make the play?
Boon and Posy break my heart. I swear I think I say this in every book by Toni. This book will just pull the emotions out of you. I laughed and I cried and wanted to hug both of them. Loved seeing the Adler’s (yes, I STILL love SHEA) and the others I got to see again from previous books. I think this is one of Toni’s book yet!!!
Toni Aleo surpassed all of my expectations with Power Play! Let me begin by saying, I’m a huge fan and love The Assassins series and The Assassins Next Generation series, and all the others. But, I felt drawn to the characters in this book personally. I felt like I was reading how I’d describe myself, while reading about Posey. She’s so down-to-earth, while also being a beautiful soul. Then, you get her perfect match in Boon, who reminded me a bit of her father as a young player. Add in that he thinks all of the things she’s self-conscious about are hot AND she loves hockey as much as he does, Coach Posey Adler is going to keep Boon, the hockey player and the man, on the tips of his skates. This book is a good reminder for all of us who have always been “just one of the guys” and wishing to feel like the “pretty one.” There are plenty of humorous twists and comedic one liners that I think we’ll (I know I will) be able to use. But, the best part is the reminder Ms. Aleo gave all of us that we each have special things about ourselves that make each of us uniquely beautiful. It’s a GIRL POWER love story masterpiece! You’ll be reading it over and over.
Posey Adler was ready to give up everything for the man she thought she was going to spend forever with, she turned down an amazing job, packed her bags and left her family behind. Only to discover that his plans for his future were significantly different, and had nothing to do with her. Now she is back home, working the amazing job she passed on, and front and center in the lives some of the NHL’s finest players.
She is there to clean up the mistakes they are making on the ice, and provide them with plays that will turn their power play game around. She knows some of them won’t be receptive to her methods and ideas, but she is determined to try to get them to see that her way works. But one player in particular is challenging her every step of the way… and sneaking past her defenses and closer to her heart than she cares to admit!
The pages of Power Play hold a heart-squeezing story about two people that have all but given up on love, their hearts are guarded and they don’t plan on letting anyone in. Posey has always had trouble with self doubt and measuring up to her perfect sister, so when she thought she had found a man who appreciated her for her she thought she had found everything. But he burst her bubble and broke her heart all in one shot. But then Boon enters her life, and things just start to click for them, all the things she was determined to not let happen again start to happen. But there is a difference this time, things are reciprocated. Watching these two heal one another and fall in love was so good on the heart and so uplifting. I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this beautifully crafted tale, it had feels, raw emotion, drama, and steamy times… a perfect concoction for a blissful literary escape!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Toni Aleo is pulling us in once again with the next generation of our favorite Assassin Family. Diving a little bit deeper into the Adler girls excites me. Elli truly was our first love and to now see how her girls are is awesome. Posey possesses character strength and weakness that I can see come from Elli. But her bad ass drive to coach the new team and show them she means business is just WOO HOOO! You can get emotional along with Posey with how she feels she’s always been in the background when it comes to Adler kids. But she’s still a force to be recon with! Love her truly! Boon has gone through his own tough but happy upbringing. He dealt with a selfish relationship that couldn’t bring out the best in him. But when he links up with Posey you can tell how these two just burst together. This next generation Nashville Assassins don’t disappoint your heart!!
