From award-winning author Tara Wyatt comes a sexy contemporary standalone romance set during a steamy Boston summer. If smartass carpenter Adam Hennessey hadn’t stood up Charlie Grant over a year ago, he might not find himself on the other side of a slammed door. But when Adam volunteers to repair Charlie’s deck as a favor to a friend, that’s exactly where he finds himself. Does he regret standing … regret standing her up? Yes. Does he find the cynical, sarcastic sports journalist unbearably sexy? Also yes. Does she hate his guts? All the yes.
Charlie’s not the forgiving type, especially after a broken heart in the past has left her jaded, but she can’t deny that Adam, with his beard, tattoos and panty-melting smile (oh, and muscles–can’t forget to mention the muscles) might just be winning her over. With a second chance on the line, Charlie will have to decide if getting nailed by the smoking hot carpenter is worth the risk.

Really enjoyed this book. He wronged her in the past. Now he gets to see the result. It was redemption time for him and he knew it. She was very upset with him and let him know it. It helps that they let some things go and were civil to each other. You can’t hang on to the past if you want to move forward. She needed to do that for herself.

This story starts off when Adam’s friend Jared accidentally drove into his neighbor, Charlie’s, backyard and fence damaging her deck. In a panic to sooth a very pissed off Charlie he promises her that his friend will repair the damage. Jared guilts Adam into making the repairs.
Turns out Adam and Charlie know each other. When they met online, they were both getting over bad breakups. Adam was getting over a divorce and Charlie was getting over being dumped by her fiancé right before the wedding. They had quite a few online chats before finally agreeing to meet in person. Adam stood Charlie up for their meeting crushing her self-esteem again.
Charlie wants Adam to leave but Adam wants to fix the damage to Charlie’s deck and fence. He stills guilty for not meeting up with Charlie and wants a chance to help her out and maybe get to know her better. Adams ready for a relationship with Charlie now but Charlie’s afraid of getting hurt again. Charlie needs to work through her issues if their relationship ever stands a chance. I enjoyed this book. It’s a quick read but the characters are likable and fun.

“She was still standing, but she wasn’t the same. It was as though her broken pieces had been reassembled slightly off-center, some of the cracks still visible.”
I usually shy away from what considered novellas unless they are useful in a series I’m reading or starting. Most authors can’t seem to take a new couple with a new story and create a fulfilling and complete story in so little page space. Imagine my surprise when I finished this one from Tara Wyatt. This is my first read by her and it definitely persuaded me to check out if she had anything else I could devour.
Told in a POV that was fairly foreign to me (like 3rd person but from each lead’s perspective), this novella is about second chances and opening up to love even if its completely broken you in the past. It is short but don’t worry! Tara was able to bring a story to life and make it feel like a full length novel….but with an ending that promises HEA yet leaves it open for any follow-ups in the future.
“Because liking led to loving, and loving led to losing, and she couldn’t do that again. She wouldn’t.”
After going through a divorce, Adam hasn’t really felt ready to totally put himself out there….especially after the disaster he caused when he stood the woman who caught his interest on the dating site so many months ago. But when his best friend calls in a favor, to fix some damage on a neighbor’s house that he caused, Adam comes face to face with the very woman that had him running scared all this month’s ago. But things are different now and hes ready to prove that he isn’t the same man he was…..if only the woman standing in front of him wasn’t determined to get him off her property for good.
“And it was fine with him, because he didn’t want money. No, he wanted something better. A second chance.”
Charlie is jaded, left by her fiance the day before their big day. She isn’t in the market for love, she won’t risk getting hurt again. But when her past online crush shows up to fix her deck and ask for forgiveness and another chance she finds that its harder to get her body and mind to agree.
Can these two find love a second time? Or are they both too scared to put their hearts on the line again? This story does end with a HFN ending, giving the reader the opportunity to imagine their own HEA long term.
“I’ll curl your toes and make you an omelet in the morning. Can’t beat that.”
Overall, this was a great intro for me to this author. It was the perfect break I needed between the dark and heavy full length novels I am used to losing myself in. It was well written and perfectly paced. Most importantly, it is able to tell a full novel-size romance in a novella-size package and still be able to make it connectable and relatable. Im a fan for sure!

Charlies neighbor ran into to her deck and needed repaired. What she was not expecting was the guy who showed up for those said repairs. Adam and Charlie met on a dating side but when the time came to met up. Adam chickened out and stood her up. She was hurt over this and did not want to be around Adam. The time spent together at her house, they got to know each other but for her it was only sec, as they all say. When he let it slip on how he felt, she went running. Two hearts broken in need of repair, she comes back wanting to give it a go.

What had possessed me to pick up this second chance romance, I used that term loosely, I don’t have no clue. It was a fast paced romance that left me feeling nothing. Nothing people, nothing. A barely there plot, boring characters and lackluster romance is was I left with at the end and needless to say, it was mediocre at best. And that’s pushing it. Overall, I was left with a forgetful read that’ll be long and forgotten before you know it.

The cover beckoned me and the blurb. This is a rather short novella, but also complete and steamy.
Charlie and Adam meet online through a dating site and hit it off. But when they decide to meet, Adam never shows and ghosts Charlie. Six months later they meet again, when Adam wants to repair her damaged porch and angry sparks fly.
Short, hot and sexy. Good read.
Charlie and Adam story. Charlie’s fiance called off wedding day before. Adam has nasty divorce past him. Would those two people give love and happines a chance. Love the story.
Well heck, I can’t wipe this goofy smile off my face.
I fell in love with Charlie first, so vulnerable, so snarky. Then I fell for Adam, so sexy, wanting a chance, and then I flipped right over, head over heels for THEM. They are just so darn sweet and cute, but oh my good golly, they bring the spice.
This book just, wait for it, nailed it. Couldn’t resist.
