I loved every minute of this book with engaging characters and a story so realistic I felt like I was in Splendor in 1871 and totally involved in all that was happening from beginning to end. I loved the attraction and undeniable chemistry between Deputy Sheriff Hex Boudreaux and Chrissy McKenna who takes care of her younger sister while being a cook and caretaker for Hex and his daughter, Lucy. It’s always exciting to virtually return to the Redemption Mountain Historical Western Romance Series by gifted author Shirleen Davies and “Mystery Mesa” is another must-read page-turner. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This is the first book I have read in this series. I enjoyed the story and the characters very much. Christina had traveled west with her twin sister and younger stepsister to make a life for themselves after the death of her father and stepmother. She is quite wealthy but she takes a job to care for a deputy’s young daughter after school. While she cares for her younger sister and Lucy, the deputy’s daughter, she begins to have feelings for the handsome deputy.
Hex Boudreaux has a difficult past. He was a former soldier who didn’t find out he had a daughter until after the death of her mother. Christina (Chrissy) helps him provide the care Lucy needs when he can’t be with her. Hex thinks of Chrissy as a good friend until someone mentions to him that she has grown into a beautiful, desirable woman. He begins to notice that she has indeed, become a beauty and someone he could see himself with forever. But, could she ever see him that way? Time will tell.
There is drama, murder, suspense, romance, intrigue and much more in the book. It is a fairly clean romance that takes place in the late 1800s. I will look forward to reading more from this series.
I was given an arc copy of the book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Shirleen Davies has written a beautiful historical love story that takes place in the Montana Territory in 1871.
After their father dies, Christina “Chrissy” McKenna moves to Montana with her twin sister and her much younger sister Cecilia “CiCI.” Unfortunately, Chrissy’s twin becomes ill during the trip and dies soon after.
Hex Boudreaux is a deputy for the town and is a single father of five-year old Lucy. Hex hires Chrissy to watch Lucy while he is working. Since she also makes dinner for them, she and Cici often eat with them. Over time, Hex and Chrissy slowly fall in love with each other. I loved watching their beautiful love story unfold as Hex finally courts shy, innocent Chrissy.
Ms. Davies also adds some intrigue to this book. Two questionable families come to visit the town, separately, but at the same time. During that time, a murder occurs, and both families are considered possible suspects.
This is another absorbing story from this author’s Redemption Mountain Historical Western romance series.
This book was so good to read. I have to say that I could not put it down until it. was finished. The drama and mystery was so good. And let us not forget the characters in the book and how the author brings out the full details of each person.
A lawman and single dad falls for his cook\child caretaker who also has family obligations. Bring into the mix murder, undercurrents in town , and and new residents to town for the reader to be immersed into the old West. This author is a definite favorite for good reads and am enjoying the Redemption series.
Another fabulous addition to a fabulous series. I thought Hex and Chrissy’s story to be a sweet romance with a unique twist. Their path to each other is akin to a pile of tinder waiting for a match. I do think one of the subplots leave you hanging, but other than that I love this book!
Chrissy has been watching Hex’s daughter until he gets home from work. She has developed a crush on him. He thinks of her as a young girl until someone points out that she is turning 21. He had better step things up if he is interested.
A Lawman and a single father does not see the beautiful kind woman who helps take care his daughter and his home until a beautiful newcomer arrives. Also, Christina gets interest directed to her from a new deputy. During this time a man is shot by 3 masked men. The man shot was at a table with a family of 4 which a new deputy thinks he has been following wanted for a number heists.
The family of 4 stay in town when told by the Sheriff even though he can not really make them stay. The head of the family wants to stay to steal money. The son wants to leave with his adopted sister, who is his girlfriend.
The masked men turn out to be 3 brothers hired to kill the man at the table. They just want their money then start a new life.
We find out more about the family.
Christine and Hex grow closer. The son and adopted daughter flee during the night and danger follows them.
Than during a festival. A safe is broken into and the older couple of the family make away with some money but are stopped by the 3 brothers.
Will the Sheriff and deputies catch any of them and figure out the mystery.
Will Hex and Christine have a HEA?
It nice to read an update on the other couples in Redemption in earlier books.
Hex is a deputy in Splendor. Last year, a woman brought him the daughter he never knew he had, claiming that her mother had died. Left with a precocious girl named Lucy, Hex need help. He asked Chrissy to help take care of Lucy while he worked.
Chrissy moved to Splendor with her twin and a younger sister. Around the time that Lucy came to Hex, Chrissy’s twin died. She is still grieving her death but agrees to help help Hex. Her younger sister is friends with Lucy so Chrissy spends her time at Hex’ house cooking, cleaning and caring for Lucy until Hex comes home from work. But Chrissy’s feelings for Hex grow stronger.
Hex like Chrissy but doesn’t believe he is good enough for her. When a beautiful woman comes to town, Hex’ head is turned and Chrissy is hurt. There is also a “family” that isn’t what they seem who is with a man who is murdered by a gang of masked villains. Will Hex realize what he has with Chrissy before it’s too late?
The story is filled with mystery and adventure. This book can be read as a standalone but the other books in the Redemption Mountain series are so good that you shouldn’t miss them.
This book is filled with romance along with murder and suspense. Hex is a Deputy Sheriff and Chrissy takes care of his daughter Lucy along with her younger sister CiCi. This book will keep you entertained and turning the pages to see what will happen next as the story unravels. Loved the characters of Hex Chrissy as well as the supporting characters.
Hex Boudreaux, Deputy Sheriff in Splendor, is a single father to a young daughter Lucy. Christina (Chrissy) McKenna has just lost her twin sister and is now taking care of her younger sister Cici, as well as taking care of Lucy for Hex. She is falling in love with Hex but he still sees her as a young girl and not the woman she is. There is so much action and mystery in this story. A family with four wagons has come to town to open a saloon, a man has been gunned down in a restaurant, and robbery. When Hex sees the beautiful daughter Alana from the new saloon owner he is attracted and asked her to lunch. When he is seen by Chrissy and sees the hurt, he realizes what he might lose or could he be too late and already lost her.
Another great entry in the series. A sweet romance set in the historical West. Will grab you from the beginning and leave you smiling.
Mystery Mesa is the 15th entry in the Redemption Historical western series, and it features Hex Boudreaux and Chrissy McKenna. Both have recently faced some hard challenges and Chrissy now finds herself in the position of caregiver for Hex’s young daughter, while caring for her younger sister as well. While to two know they are attracted to each other, neither of them seems in any hurry to change the current state of affairs. When new arrivals in town and an inexplicable crime spree force Hex to rely on Chrissy even more, they find themselves forced to face their feelings. Supported by familiar faces from past stories as well as a few new ones readers can only hope will get their own books, what follows is a great story!
I love romances featuring children and the two little girls in this book were great characters who were determined to get their respective guardians together so they could be one big happy family. The mystery and suspense elements that feature prominently in this series continue to add to my enjoyment in reading these books. All in all, a most satisfying read!
I received a free ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.
I always love Shirleen Davies books and she didn’t disappoint with this one. I loved Hex and Christina’s story and all the characters. The book captivated me from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it. A very good read.
I received this book for free but truly loved it and voluntarily leave my review.
this is a wonderful story , hex is trying to adjust to being a father , Lucy to having a father and Christina to losing her twin. this is an other great story in the series i was given a copy of the book but this is an ;honest review you will go through the ups and downs of grief, having a young daughter and falling in love. there is also the bad guys if you like cowboys and romance you will want to read the book
I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good instalment in the series although I did find the conversation a bit simplistic and I didn’t really get a sense of the tension or suspense.
This is another great story and well worth the read. You don’t have to have read all the others in the series, however I loved the mention of previous characters. This is an honest review and I was given the book for this reason, however I have previously purchased every book written by Shirleen Davies and I have my very favourite books on audiobooks as well. So call me a true fan.
This is one of those books that you finish with a smile on your face. The story-line has several moving parts and all of them intense, interesting and romantic; then, there are those areas of robberies, guns blazing and saloons with entertainment. I enjoyed seeing how Zeke and Hex Boudreaux were doing; I loved the babies in arms of new parents; and, I felt new-love pain when things didn’t go as expected. I’m so glad to read about Splendor again and ride in the old west. Thanks to the author for the ARC for my enjoyment. I do love this genre’.
I enjoy Shirleen Davies’ books about the old west. They reflect times of courting and falling in love with the added suspense of gunfights and bank robbers, fires in the town of Splendor, and many other exciting events. I can always count on a fast, fun, and entertaining read.
Mystery Mesa is the story of Hex and Christina and how their friendship blooms into love. One can’t help but love Christina with her caring ways and great friendships with others, especially Lucy and Cici, the two young girls in her life. I truly enjoyed this journey into the past when the Montana territory was being settled. We should all have a good friend like Christina.
