What you don’t know about your spouse could kill you.
Jens Corbin is a comfortable, successful writer, with a wife and a teenage son. After saving a man from a bear attack in the New Hampshire mountains, Jens decides to step away from his popular but formulaic mystery series to begin a new cycle, featuring a female protagonist devoted to saving kidnapped children.Unbeknownst to him, a … saving kidnapped children.
Unbeknownst to him, a convicted murderer has been released from prison after twenty years. A killer who is vengeful, angry. A killer who used to be married to Jens’ wife!
Writing about killers is one thing, but outwitting them in real life is another. How far would you go to protect your family?
An intelligent thriller about a writer who has to fight for everything he’s ever cared about — because of his wife’s hidden past.

I really liked how the writer maximized the number of chapters which allows the reader
to stop reading to allow trips to the bathroom or to eliminate nodding off and losing one’s place in the book (both of which were unintended while reading by me). In the case of “My Wife’s Husband”, I was pleased that he easily made the transitions from one chapter to the next very smoothly (without having to reread portions of the last chapter to understand the action of the new chapter. Overall, the book was one that has me looking for more books to read by that author.
Great suspense.
Couldn’t put it down.
I don’t think even finished 1st chapter I was so offended by language that deleted it from library as would hate for anyone to think I might have read it
meh
Very clever, unique idea of writing a second book within a book you are writing ; as well as the clever title and convoluted method of quickly dismantling a family unit.
Book Review: My Wife’s Husband by E.H. Davis (2020) (Suspense Thriller) 4 Stars ****
Have you ever said I never really knew him/her at all when speaking about your spouse or life partner? Jens repeats these words many times throughout the book when the once predictable lives of the New Hampshire Corbin family—successful novelist Jens, his struggling artist wife Vivian, their sixteen-year-old son Teddy—are turned upside down as strange things begin to happen: hang-up calls, whispered conversations, hidden letters, house break-ins, intruders in the woods, car chases, secret rendezvous, strange behavior and accusations. Jens discovers his wife of many years has a past—and a shocking one at that—which has come back to haunt her.
Quite the vixen, teenage Vivian always ran her game. Never wanting to take full responsibility for herself or her actions, she relied on chivalrous men. Laurent, a once honorable young man, proves his love for his teenage wife by taking the rap and her prison sentence. In the meanwhile, Vivian has the marriage annulled and pulls some shenanigans on Laurent’s wealthy family. Now, having paid his debt to society, Laurent is out, expecting to pick up his life where he left off, despite knowing that Vivian is married and a mother. Unfortunately, prison has changed Laurent. “That’s when he decided—stealing Vivian back was not enough. He had to kill Jens for usurping his place, for stealing his life. The boy would have to die, too. There would be no place for Corbin’s son in his and Vivian’s new life together.”
Once a con, always a con? Laurent concocts an intricate plan to get what he believes he deserves. He enlists the aid of his former cellmate Walter. Together they make the plan even more intricate, more dangerous, and with more at stake. Neither man trusts nor can be trusted. Who’s zoomin’ who?
Jens is no slouch when it comes to protecting his family. After saving the lives of two strangers on two separate occasions, Jens meets a detective and a nurse—two women who become indispensable in picking up the pieces and putting them back together. So many twists and turns with everyone pitching in to fill in information gaps.
A very enjoyable book. Well paced and very well written, until the end when the excellent writing style changes. It seems the last quarter of the book was written in a hurry—deadline or impatience? Here are some examples of strange vocabulary choices: (1) “His hearing grew attenuated.” (2) “Suit yourself,” delivered the clerk as a final salvo.”(3) “She tossed her head back and laughed archly.” OK. So, the author reads the dictionary for fun. Yes, these words exist, but they don’t belong is these sentences.
This being said, the book is much better than most. Great plot. Unexpected twists. As readers, we’re reminded how people who aren’t so smart think they are smart, and also make the mistake of thinking other people who are smart aren’t so smart. Let’s not forget Vivian: Do you think she might be her own worst enemy? Does this all sound like a dog chasing his/her tail? Uh-huh. Oh, what a tangled web we weave ….
Just a plain great story with lots of events to hold my interest to the end
Quit reading about 5 chapters in. Just couldn’t get involved with the characters. Very bland, boring people
I did not enjoy this book.I could not get into it
This book kept me guessing most of the way through. A good author to read that I look forward to reading more from.
I had to suspend my disbelief that Vivian never sought psychological help after the fiasco with her uncle.
Some decent suspense, but fairly predictable
I could not finish this book. All of the characters were very distasteful and unlikeable. The story was so ridiculous, unbelievable and boring. One of the worst books that I have tried to read in a long time. Don’t waste your money.
I truly did not find a likable or redeemable character in this book. I finished reading it but without anyone to cheer on there was very little to actually care about and I was happy when I finished.
Both my husband nd and I read it and really enjoyed it
I enjoyed this writers descriptive style. His use of words to paint the canvas invited the reader to get deeper into the story. It’s a story of how little dishonesties pile up to create a tragedy.
An enjoyable read.
I found the book to very wordy. Too much detail.
Keep my attention throughout the book!
