An Amazon Charts bestseller.
A woman’s journey through tragedy leads to the discovery of love in a novel about hope and survival by New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee.
When a wildfire nearly destroys Parker Sinclair’s family home, it’s just one more disaster to add to her mountain of stress. For the past two years, she has shouldered the responsibility of raising her younger … responsibility of raising her younger brother and sister after their parents’ untimely deaths. Forced to leave college for a crappy job that barely pays the bills, Parker manages her family property, which consumes every aspect of her life. Now winter is coming and the forecast isn’t spreading sunshine on the dark cloud over her head. The last thing Parker needs is a mudslide destroying everything she has worked so hard to maintain.
Colin Hudson’s job as a public works supervisor is to protect Parker’s property and neighborhood from further damage. But it’s a little hard when the owner of the land is a control freak who tries to do everything herself. The hardworking, attractive young woman is far from the “hot mess” she claims to be. In fact, her tight grip of control is one of the things that attract him the most. It’s also the hardest to crack. Now Colin’s working overtime to help Parker open up her heart, trust him, and let him in.
As Parker and Colin work together to keep her home and neighborhood safe, they may be in for another disaster. Or they may just realize that sometimes it takes destruction to create something new.

Wildfires and mudslides! Enough to keep you out of southern California, right? Parker knows her family home is in danger and yet believes it’s better to stay. Colin is the public works supervisor who is in charge of protecting the neighborhood from the wrath of mother nature. Catherine Bybee is a bestselling author who gives you heartwarming stories and believable characters. This one she could relate to personally and did a wonderful job. Colin and Parker find themselves in the midst of each others’ lives and in love. But how much does it take to overcome their individual doubts and fears?
Loved this story. It’s a fictional account of the author’s and an incredible story that will keep you on an emotional roller coaster until the very end. You’ll feel the heat, taste the rain, hear the wind. And you’ll smile when Colin and Parker find their happy ending.
I absolutely loved this romance. It was so much more than a simple romance, however. The characters were faced with tragedy and conveyed very realistically in the ways that they dealt with it. The story had grace, humor, warmth, and magic. Highly recommend and looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
As always, I enjoyed Bybee’s book. I follow the author on social media so I know how hard the fire in California hit her and her family. I love that she took the pain she experienced and put it into a book.
I related to Parker. She had to be an adult while still trying to figure out how to grow up. Then, she had to give up the control she’s always been fighting for. The Dynamic between Parker and Colin was dynamic and I enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see the rest of this book.
Catherine Bybee’s newest book seems to take a different direction than previous books, but is so much more compelling as it’s based in true life experiences. As usual, I love her strong female character alongside her male counterpart, as well as entertaining, lovable side characters. The story itself was a rollercoaster ride of ‘what’s going to happen next’ that had me turning pages way past bedtime. Would give more stars if I could!
Parker Sinclaire’s life has not been easy the last few years. After her parents untimely death, at twenty one, she had to quit college and help raise her young brother and sister. Holding on to a crappy job, as a teacher’s assistant, Parker is barely making ends meet at the family home. Living in the mountains of California, fires and mudslides, are a yearly occurrence. Parker is so tired fighting Mother Nature after a fire nearly destroys their home, that she dreams of the day when her siblings are on their own and she can sell their property. With winter approaching and a forecast of rain, that can only mean mudslides.
Colin Hudson is determined to build a damm and a funnel in the mountains to protect the homes below from future mudslides. Now he needs permission from the owner to have access to the property in order to get this done. What he wasn’t expecting is the beautiful and young home owner that greeted him. Once she agreed, Colin looked forward to seeing her daily as he organized the project. The one thing he can honestly say about Parker, of course she’s beautiful, but extremely stubborn and always refusing help. Instead trying to do everything on her own. He’s rapidly falling for her, but can he get thru her armor, so they can have a future together.
Loved this book. The constant battle that California goes thru yearly is detailed in this book, that is written magnificently. Great reading!
I received a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I won this book on 3-10-2020 Goodreads Sweepstakes.
A wildfire nearly destroys Parker Sinclair’s family home and both of her parents die. Parker has been taking care of her teenage siblings for 2 years and is forced to leave college and take a job she doesn’t like and has a hard time paying the bills. Parker manages her family property, which consumes every aspect of her life and winter is coming and a possible mudslide may destroy everything she has worked so hard to maintain.
Colin Hudson is a public works supervisor and part of his job is to protect Parker’s property and neighborhood from further damage. But it’s a little hard when the owner of the land is a control freak who tries to do everything herself. I don’t want to spoil the story but this is a lot of what had been happening to a lot of people in other states and this shows how they get through the stress of disasters with help from other people.
Thanks goes to the publisher and Net-Galley for providing me an advance reader copy. I appreciate the chance to read and review Catherine Bybee’s newest novel, My Way to You. My opinions are my own and are not influenced by the complimentary copy.
My Way to You is an emotional novel set in southern California in the aftermath of a horrific wildfire that almost takes the heroine’s family home. To add insult to injury, she is now in danger of losing her house to mudslides from the torrential rains. As I always expect with Ms. Bybee, the writing is stellar, the pacing is perfect, and her flawed characters are realistic.
Parker Sinclair’s character is under a tremendous amount of stress. She’s not only dealing with her parent’s deaths, but she’s raising her siblings on top of dealing with wildfires and mudslides. She has an indominable spirit and is determined to succeed against all odds. While at times, she frustrated me with her insecurities, I did really like her character. She loves deeply, but she has lots of fear which keeps her closed off.
Colin Hudson is a fantastic hero with all the characteristics I most admire. He’s willing to go way above and beyond to help the stressed Parker when he meets her while trying to save her neighborhood. His attraction to her is instantaneous, and he doesn’t allow Parker’s insecurities to push him away. He is determined to win her heart.
The Chemistry between Parker and Colin is combustible. He is perfect for her because he refuses to let her push him away. I truly wanted them to find their happy ending. Parker doesn’t make it easy for him.
If you enjoy contemporary romance with plenty of heart and a bit of angst, then you’ll love My Way to You as much as I did. This is the first book in MS. Bybee’s new series, and I can’t wait to read the next one. Happy reading!
What a great start to the new Creek Canyon Series.
This is a very different type of story to what I have previously read by this author but it shows just how diverse and how very talented Catherine Bybee is because this book captivated me from the first chapter, I loved Parker Sinclair, she is just as strong as all of this author’s previous heroines has been and I’m sure you will love her and her story as much as I did….
Parker has had a hard life, she was left to bring up her younger siblings when their parents died, she never got to go to college and her life has been all about her siblings and the home they share so when the property is threaten by wildfires and mudslides she is at the end of her tether. Colin Hudson arrives to make sure the property is safe to live in but Parker seems hell bent on stopping him doing his job, there is an instant attraction between them and all he wants to do is make life easier for Parker but she has put up walls for a reason and it’s going to take a lot of patience to break through her defensives. Will Colin fight for a future or will the barrier be to hard to break through ….
You can tell this book has been written from the heart and that this author has drawn on the California wildfires and mudslides which I understand she experienced first hand. This is a sweet love story that’s about overcoming the hurdles life sometimes puts in our way, it’s about learning to trust and put faith in others and it’s a book that touched me on so many levels because here in Australia we have just got over a terrible bushfire season and this book brought back so many memories as this author painted pictures with her words. Looking forward to book 2 and getting to know the siblings better in future books.

Parker is the oldest sibling and when her parents are killed in an auto accident it is up to her to keep their family together. She drops out of college to raise her younger brother and sister and is struggling to keep their finances afloat when they and their neighborhood are facing a wildfire. They manage to safe their home but when winter comes with a threat of mudslides, it’s more than she can handle. When Colin arrives to evaluate the best way to save their neighborhood from the possible mudslides they work together to save her home and their neighborhood. This is a awe inspiring story. I could definitely tell that the author had some experience with wildfires and mudslides. This was well told and I was anxious for Parker and her family as they worked tirelessly to save their home. But it’s not all about wildfires and mudslides…When Collin crushes on Parker you’ll pull for much more than the family home.

My Way to You is book 1 in the new series Creek Canyon by Catherine Bybee.
What an amazing book! This book deserves more than 5 stars!!
Parker Sinclair drops out of college to raise her siblings after their parents are killed in an accident. She is determined to keep her family together but when the California wild fires come to their back yard they could lose it all..with the help of Colin Hudson, Public Works supervisor and his crew they will do whatever it takes to safe the Sinclair homestead and the surrounding homes.
Mixing the author’s life events into this story keeps you on an emotional rollercoaster and sometimes thinking the ride must end soon but more is right around the next bend. Words really can’t describe the impact this book has…looking forward to the next book in the series.
What an amazing story! Her words are written so that you are part of the story and they evoke emotions and imagery. I loved the characters. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
From tragedy, through despair, into triumph, the story is one that will touch your heart. Based upon her own experiences in the Sand Fire in 2016, Bybee has created a story of love and strength.
The heroine, Parker, has faced the loss of her parents and has stepped up to shoulder the responsibility of raising her two younger siblings. Now, their home is threatened as the fires race toward them. Barely escaping with their lives, they await word of the loss of their family home. Miraculously they find that they escaped total loss. Then reality sets in. With bare hillsides surrounding them, they have no natural barrier against flooding once the rains begin.
The bulk of the story covers the heroic efforts of the county crews that come back time and again to build structures to divert flood waters away from Parker’s neighborhood. One of the engineers, Colin, finds her strength compelling, and they begin to form a bond. They start a budding relationship in the midst of chaos.
Well drawn, sympathetic characters and real life scenarios taken from the author’s own life make this a book that I couldn’t put down. Fabulous read! Cannot wait for book two.
My Way to You is the story of a young woman, Parker, who went away to college and then got the horrific call to come home, her parents were in an accident. She puts her life on hold, moves back home to raise her younger sister and brother, and figure out how to keep their lives afloat. A fire ravaged the area around her house and other environmental issues come to light. Enter the man, Collin, who is going to keep her house safe and help to keep her community from being washed out. Of course, the man is hot, single, and interested in Parker.
I love the romance and the family values within the story. The attraction of Parker and Collin was fun to watch develop. I was thrilled that Parker stayed true to herself while Collin pushed her just enough to step outside of her comfort zone. Both Parker and Collin’s families played a large roll in their relationship. Of course, Parker is the primary caretaker of her brother and sister made her have responsibilities that most women her age do not have yet. Collin’s family embraced Parker and also kept Collin from moving too fast.
The environmental stuff was not so much fun for me. I tended to skip over some of the parts where it talked about what the workers were doing to Parker’s yard and how the weather was affecting her community. Some of that part of the story had to be included so that Collin would keep showing up but some of it was beyond what I needed to know to enjoy the romance.
Catherine Bybee is an author that I read often and I always find myself lost her in books not wanted to put them down. My Way to You is the first book in the Canyon Creek Series and I am excited to read more.
Loved loved loved! Couldn’t put this one down. Loved the characters, loved the story … it flowed so beautifully from beginning to end. Can’t wait for the next one!! Highly recommend.
Thank you #netgalley and #montlakeromance for the eARC.
Ripped from the headlines!! Fiction imitates life!!
The first book in the Canyon Creek series, My Way to You, is the fictionalized tale of the events the author went through after her home was almost destroyed by fire and then by flood! It’s just so good!
Weaving many different ‘acts of God’, the fire and the terror Parker felt thinking she lost the only home she’d ever known, the flood after the fire that again almost took out her home, her parent’s deaths in an accident a few year earlier, there is so much bad happening, she has little room for anything good.
Meeting the public works supervisor, Colin, and finding out there are people who can help keep her home safe for her younger siblings helps, but Parker is really an independent woman. Accepting help doesn’t come easy for her.
As her small sphere of ‘family’ expands to include Colin’s family, Erin, the woman who rents her guest house, and even the men working on the project, she comes to understand that taking help that’s given freely does not make you dependent on those people, they just want to help lighten your burden.
Great read! I can’t wait for the second book in the series.
A powerful story of one woman’s struggle to not only keep what is left of her family together but also fight against the ravages of mother nature and save her family’s California home. The author did an amazing job of bringing you right to the front lines as these characters fight wildfires, mudslides, and floods. The writing is wonderfully descriptive making you feel as if you are right there. The characters feel so genuine and real that your heart can’t help but cheer each time they find a way to survive. Put this on the top of the must read list. No one should miss it.
This was my very first time reading Catherine Bybee. I have a friend who has always recommended Ms. Bybee’s books to me, but I had never gotten around to reading. I was lucky enough to have been given an early copy of this gem by Montlake Publishing, and I am now kicking myself for not reading Ms. Bybee sooner.
This story is filled with so many emotions. Parker has gone through so much but her strength is what made me love her character so much. Usually with romances I get easily frustrated with the female leads but this story was different in the best of ways.
From what I have seen on the author’s Facebook she was inspired for this story by real life events that she endured. Knowing all this beforehand really added to my emotions while reading. Beautiful story and I look forward to the next book in the Canyon Creek series. Absolute must read!!
This story was a bit different and quite interesting. The author gives a good view into the lives of those whose homes have been threatened by wildfires and/or mudslides that have resulted from the fires. It’s very obvious from the way the story is written that she is pulling from her own experiences. While I found the personal relationships touching and wonderful, sometimes the details of the other things got in the way. Never for too long, never to the extent they took me out of the story, but enough that I would find myself skimming.
Colin and his whole family are wonderful people. So are Parker and her family, for that matter. As a person who is a bit type A and used to keeping control of situations, I could totally sympathize with Parker. While there were times I thought she was keeping a bit too tight of a rein, I could also be real with myself and know I would be acting quite similarly to her.
There’s a great connection between Parker and Colin. I never felt a burning fire, but I definitely felt some heat. Now, his brother and her tenant are a different story. There’s some great chemistry there and I’m excited to read their story. The link Colin and Parker have is more about comfort, but that’s what they both need. Not that they don’t have a yearning for one another, but the overwhelming need they both have at this point in life is comfort and love.
I’m not sure how many books will be in this series, but there are so many stories I would love to read from these families.
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of Net Galley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
Wow! This was a roller coaster of emotions. Parker first has to deal with her parents death and having to drop out of school to take care of her siblings and then with the drought fire season comes and so does the fire. The fire was devastating but the house was left standing but soon the rains would come and so would the rain and Colin Hudson’s job is to prevent further loss. Little did he know he would also find the love of his life. Watching these two come to grips during this turmoil was not something beautiful and one of the reasons I keep coming back to this author no matter what she writes! Definitely a keeper and so glad it is the start of a series!!
