Another wonderfully written story by Katy Regnery that brings a full range of emotions, from heartache to happiness to love, and has me totally hooked on this “Odds Are Good” series.
This book was written with the same emotion and heart as the other books in this series, but unlike the others, some of which also tackled some difficult topics, this one struck me on an even more emotional level. My heart was so sad watching Addison struggle with finding her brother and then watching her life unravel as she dealt with the consequences of everything she had face – and doing most of it alone. I loved how she pulled herself together and committed to finding her way, even though I did get a bit frustrated as she kept putting up a wall between her and Gideon. Gideon was wonderful. He was not a perfect hero, and I loved him even more for that. I loved that he was driven by emotion, but he was also man enough to own up to the issues that those emotions sometimes caused. I love the respect for Addison he had, his acceptance of her needs, how he was never threatened by her accomplishments, and his understanding of her desire to continue with her career. These two had a rocky road, but they fought hard and earned their happy ever after.
I can’t say enough about this book and the entire series. Somehow Katy Regnery finds a way to deliver an emotional story that is easy to read, with characters who draw you into their story and have you turning the pages to find out how they will get their happily ever after.
I received an advance reader copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I love Katy. Her books are on a different level and they so easily draw me in.
Love isn’t always easy. It doesn’t always happen across the room with smoldering eyes and the heart going pitter-patter at an off the charts speed. Sometimes it’s slow and has to be nurtured and cultivated.
Once again Katy gives us an emotional, heartfelt story of tragedy, heartache, and love. Weird combination but Katy is the master of intensity and passion.
Addison and Gideon find their way to each other in an unconventional method. They share a night of passion. That one night sets the stage for one of the most heartbreaking, but healing books I have read this year.
I wish I could read this book for the first time because it is not what you would expect. It’s so much more!
I love this series and this was the absolute best, so much feelings and great characters.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
The storyline progresses nicely to a happy ending
I feel for Addy and her childhood experiences but I also think they made her the strong women she is today.
Gideon is so loveable and steady I can understand how Addy falls for him.
Sweet and intense love is building between them and it’s so great to read about I couldn’t put down my kindle.
5 stars and I’m totally ready for the next one in this series. (All the books can be read as standalone)
MY VALDEZ VALENTINE IS #4 in the (Odds-Are-Good) Standalone Romance Series. Since I am into reading Alaskan Romance Books, this is right up my alley. Each book starts out with an ad from the Odds-Are-Good Magazine placed by a Single Hot Man from Alaska:
COME FLY WITH ME
Chopper pilot with a taste for adventure offers a bite of the wild side to a woman with courage, curiosity, and confidence. I am thirty-five years old. Five foot ten. Lean. Alutiiq with husky-blue eyes. Fortune favors the bold!
Addison DeWitt, Esq., who graduated magna cum laude from Stanford, and sees the ad. Figures her assistant must have been looking for a single man in Alaska, again. She forgets all about it. She is leaving on a flight for Valdez, Alaska. Her twin brother, Elliot is missing. He is all she has, and she is going to do everything humanly possible to find him.
Fate is very fickle! The very chopper pilot that she has hired to help find her missing brother, fits the description of the personal ad that she had just read yesterday. She is absolutely positive it is him. His name is Gideon Grinoriev. There will be more than just coincident that has matched and brought these two unlikely people together.
OMG this book was freaking amazing I loved it 🙂 I couldn’t put it down. must read for anyone who hasn’t read it for sure .
An emotional journey of a story. If a book can drag emotions out of me, then the author has won me for life. Katy Regnery has won me a million times over with this story, and so many of her others. A definite one click for me!!
Emotional, heart-wrenching, and inspirational with a strong heroine and a the best hero. I adore this series and the Alaska setting.
I just ADORE this series!! The covers are gorgeous, the settings are gorgeous, and the stories are gorgeous!
“I think about Gideon’s brilliant blue eyes, and something inside of me – in the near vicinity of my heart – clutches like crazy.”
Tough LA divorce lawyer, Addison DeWitt, arrives in Valdez, Alaska, in search of her brother. She hires local helicopter pilot, Gideon Grigoriev, to chaperone her around for a week. The attraction between them is instant and, in the midst of her concern for her missing brother, she gives in to their sizzling chemistry and spends an unforgettable night with him. Just one night before her life falls apart.
“I know I only knew her for a week, but she’s the closest thing I’ve ever found to what I want.”
Gideon is completely enraptured by Addison. When she goes back to LA, he finds it difficult to move on. When she reappears back in his life a few months later with shocking life-changing news, he’s determined to make the most of it.
“I look into her eyes, and for the first time, I realize that my feelings for her are shockingly profound.”
These two just completely melted my heart. On the surface, Addison and Gideon seemed like complete opposites, but as they get to know each other, they uncover lots of common ground. I adored Gideon – he was smart, hot, thoughtful, caring, and just totally stepped up when Addison needed him the most. I loved his unerring support of her. I loved that Addison, who was pretty much a self-sufficient lone wolf, learned to lean on someone. On Gideon.
This story was sad, joyous, adorable and super sexy! My heart is full!

You how they say to not judge a book by its cover? Well, that’s certainly the case with this one. The cover is yummy, don’t get me wrong, but at first glance, you might think you’re getting a light and steamy romance. In reality, this book deals with some pretty heavy and difficult things and goes a lot deeper than I was expecting it to! Addison is a high-profile divorce attorney from LA who finds herself traveling to Alaska to track down her free-spirited and adventurous twin brother whose last voicemail to her indicated he was in some sort of danger. It’s here where she meets, and subsequently hires, helicopter pilot Gideon to help track him down. Trying to locate her brother, not know if he was dead or alive, was easily the worst time in Addison’s life but Gideon proves to be a pretty good distraction and Addison could have never predicted all the ways her life would change the fateful day she hired Gideon.
The mystery and fear associated with learning what happened to Addison’s brother will suck you right into this story. I was nervous and unsure of how that portion would all turn out. Following the resolution of that part, there’s a bit of a direction shift – part of which I saw coming and another that I wasn’t expecting but as difficult as it was, I’m glad that there were realistic repercussions for a certain character’s actions. I’m being intentionally vague so as not to spoil anything, but if you read this, you’ll know what I mean. Gideon and Addison were really sweet together, although they did not have an easy road at all. I was a little hot and cold on Addison if I’m being honest. There were moments where I really felt for her and was sorry for what she was going through but then there were other times – especially in how she would treat Gideon sometimes – where she came across as snooty and I didn’t exactly care for her. Gideon, however, was fantastic – he was kind and supportive, even when they were virtual strangers just looking for a missing person. He was also very understanding and accommodating when his and Addison’s paths crossed a second time. He gave up a lot for her, and while I was okay with it in the end, I was a little miffed during that he was the one to always have to give. In any event, I liked how everything turned out and thought the epilogue was very sweet. If you’re looking for a story that’ll give you plenty of feels, then you should give this one a go!
How can a book break your heart and make you swoon? I like the relationships that have started backwards. It’s enjoyable for me to watch 2 characters kind of forced into some kind of relationship because of an unexpected event. They get a quick education on each other and see if they are both capable of sinking or swimming. The series in Alaska is interesting in the fact that the communities are smaller and can be isolating, which can be a good or bad thing depending on the situation. I can slightly relate to that too. Loved it!
My Valdez Valentine is a ride you won’t forget! This story was so much more than I expected, causing me to ugly cry a few times, but well worth the ride. This book wrecked me in the best ways and is by far my favorite of the series. Such a beautiful tale of love, loss and overcoming obstacles. Truly amazing!
I really love this series.
Complete stand-alones connected by location – Alaska.
This one was definitely more emotional. It dealt with some pretty heavy subject matter.
Gideon was just a unique but incredible H.
Addison was real and relatable.
Their story is one I won’t forget.

This book is the 4th book in the Series Odds-Are-Good. Each book in the series have been great but this story “Wowza!”
Addison is a hot shot attorney in L.A. who has twin brother Elliot who likes to put himself in dangerous situations mostly an “adrenaline junkie”. Addison finds a personal ad from Alaska that her assistant was looking at and found interesting. Helicopter pilot – Alutiiq with husky-Blue eyes and knows Latin.
Addison receives a broken up phone call from her brother who’s in Valdez Alaska and he’s in trouble. She needs to find her brother and flys to Alaska and meets a husky blue eyed helicopter pilot named Gideon. This begins their adventure to find her brother but things don’t go as planned and she has to deal with the tragic after math. But during the search for her brother, her and Gideon start getting to know each then later more intimately. Losing her twin brother is very devastating to her ( he’s her only family) and she takes it out on Gideon and needs to leave the town of Valdez. She does eventually makes her way back to Alaska.
I could not stop reading this book due to the emotional rollercoaster that Katy Regnery takes you in this story. Many times brought tears to my eyes or I just down right cried in some chapters. These characters experience a lot of turmoil in their lives but one miracle and eventually love brings them their HEA Five Stars !
I am going to make this a spoiler-free review because this book was not what I expected. It deals with some difficult subjects. There are some surprises and twists. But ultimately it is a story about facing hard situations and then digging in and finding purpose and a reason to move forward.
Addison DeWitt thought she had all she needed–a successful and profitable career as a law partner, a nice, stable life, and the one person she has been able to count on. Then one call changed everything and she finds herself in a situation she never imagined. Related events send her life spiraling in a different direction. But at the darkest, there is a small glimmer of hope and she has to figure out if she’s strong enough to grab onto it.
Gideon Grigoriev is a chopper pilot in Alaska. He just wants to help a woman in need and the money involved is just a bonus. His attraction to her is risky, but the time they spend together as a fun distraction in the midst of chaos leaves a mark on him that he never expected.
Two people that never saw the other coming, and were not sure what to do when one had to go. Neither was looking for love. Neither had experienced such a quick bond. She is untrusting, afraid, and used to being let down. He seems to offer safety and acceptance, but he also has some needs that might be non-negotiable. And their life circumstances could not be more different.
Can love bridge the distance to compromise?
This is a story about heartbreak, grief, hope, and finding the good even in bad situations. My heart broke for both of them at times, and there were other times I just wanted to shake sense into them. Their connection was intense, but the circumstances were so dramatic and required so much compromise that a positive outcome was certainly not guaranteed. So this is more than a cute and quick romp through Alaska with a hot pilot. It definitely delves into more serious topics and emotional events, but it is about overcoming and living life to the fullest.
Addy and Gideon’s story basically plays out in two parts that I call BE and BO: Because of Elliot and Because of Orange. I’m not going to explain how I cam up with those labels, and this is where I encourage you to read the book. Each one is a standalone, so you can jump in at any point free of any worry that you’re going to miss out on something from a previous book. There are no recurring characters and the only tying all the books together is the fact that the male main characters have personal ads in Odds Are Good. Addy and Gideon are as opposite as you can get, but their story highlights that some stories are about love, compromise, trust, and communication. There were about three points in the book where I did need to reach out for a couple of tissues, but I want to stress that this isn’t an overly heavy read. Yes, there are angsty moments, but it’s an honest-to-goodness story of finding love in the midst of the most dire of circumstances, and that while the road to happiness doesn’t always come with a clear set of directions, when the person you’re meant to be with is by your side, the destination doesn’t really matter as long as you’re together. With Katy Regnery, though, the destination is always clear–a happy ending, and boy, does she make the journey getting there one you’ll be glad you took. Five-plus stars go to My Valdez Valentine.
What an emotional read! Katy Regnery has written yet another incredible amazing book in her Odds Are Good Alaskan series!
My Valdez Valentine had some very unexpected moments. I didn’t know what to expect going into this one, and I am so glad that I went in like I did. This book was SO FREAKING GOOD! The characters were AMAZING and their circumstances and situations were so trying at times, but so determined and strong! I LOVED THIS BOOK! This is a must read (you may or may not need tissues…just throwing that out there!)
“…Dum spiro spero,” she says. While I breathe, I hope.
Alaskan helicopter pilot (Gideon) and LA lawyer (Addison…AKA Addy) could melt a glacier! This book had a wonderful storyline, emotional and deep times, and some very insightful information. I completely recommend this romance! 5 stars from me!
I am absolutely loving these books from the Odds-are-Good series by Katy Regnery. They are easy to read, sweet, romantic, and always mixed in with an element of something that little bit extra.
My Valdez Valentine was no exception, but throw in some added heat, sparks and full on emotion then this ticked all the boxes.
When Addison calls on the help of Gideon in the frantic search for her brother who is missing whilst in the Alaskan Wilderness, they end up spending a lot of time together. However it’s bitter sweet. The chemistry and spark between them is electric, however the circumstances of them coming together are fraught with worry and concern.
Addison is a super high flying divorce lawyer based in the city. Worlds apart from Gideon, the helicopter pilot from a really small town in Alaska. Opposites in so many ways, however both offering something to the other that they didn’t even realise they were looking for.
I loved the pace of this story and the journey these characters went on. The book touches on some really emotional and hard subjects, however with that brings a lot of hope & love as well.
Another great read!
My Valdez Valentine (Odds-Are-Good, #4) is the first book that I have read in this series and I can say that I did really enjoyed it. It’s a bit of a cheesefest romance, what with the heroine being a hot shot lawyer called Addy and the hero is a sexy helicopter pilot called Gideon. Addy hires Gideon to help her to try and find her brother Elliot who is lost in the wilderness of Alaska after receiving a call from him saying that he needed her help. Their attraction is totally instant and it doesn’t take them long to act upon it. The real saving grace of the story is that it does have an emotional side to it that saves it from being a full on fondue full of warm yummy cheese. It’s a little predictable but it was enjoyable nonetheless due to I liked the characters and the writing was good and made the book an easy and quick story to read. I have read a few books by this author before and have always enjoyed them as much I did this one.
Whoa! I was very quickly lost in Addison’s plight as she made the journey from LA to Alaska to find her brother. My heart went out to her and the danger that was involved. Finding a man was the VERY LAST THING she had on her mind. But Gideon was sexy and also a kind, helpful man. The chemistry between them was palpable and the timing completely wrong. But I loved every minute of this book! Addison may have had a bad hand dealt to her, but she found she didn’t have to do it alone. Gideon was unexpected but was there for her. Addison turned Gideon’s world upside down but in the best of ways. She wasn’t what he expected her to be and he enjoyed himself with her. This book had all sorts of feels and I couldn’t put it down. Be sure to grab your copy!
This book, as is the author’s usual manner, touches every molecule of your heart and soul. There is sorrow, confusion, surprise, off-the-chart passion, tension, and every other emotion. Addison DeWitt is an attorney from Los Angeles who travels to Alaska in search of her twin brother. Gideon Grigoriev is a chopper pilot whom she engages to help in her search, despite the instant attraction each finds for the other. The search ends, one night of passion experienced, and Addison returns to her home in California. Yet, a total surprise sends her back to Valdez, and back to her blue-eyed Alutiiq Nation Gideon. The meat of the book describes how they navigate the ins and outs of a relationship in an unusual situation, and how their attraction and getting to know each other develops into a warm, deep, total love. Ms Regnery, who is known world-wide for her beautiful depiction of romance, emotion, tension, and love, has written a beautiful story of how two people can come together under the most unusual circumstances and build together a union that makes you feel warm head to toe. This is a must-read for romance lovers!!!
