This story is absolutely unforgettable. It is one of those books that hits you right in the gut so that you can still remember every detail years after you’ve read it. I was going to read a few chapters before doing some other work, but I ended up reading the whole thing in one day. I was absolutely gripped by the characters and the plot. I wasn’t at all sure where we were going. I cried several times because the emotion was so spot on. I don’t want to risk spoiling the plot, so I won’t describe it. I will say that I came to love both of these characters as I got to know them. Have some tissues handy while you read, but be assured that all will end well.
OMG! This story was so much more emotional than I had expected! Someone should have warned me before I started reading this and crying on an airplane.
“…when I look at his face, which is so beautiful to me, I feel my feet sliding, my grip slipping. Falling is a function of gravity, and sooner or later, my fears will be no match for its power.”
Addison is strong woman and high powered attorney. She takes a break from her life in LA to run to Alaska. And with the help of Alaskan helicopter pilot, Gideon, she starts out on a search for her footloose brother who left a desperate message on her phone.
“Damn woman, you are slow to trust and hard to comfort… I slide into the backseat beside her. …but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying.”
I have absolutely loved all the stories in this series, but My Valdez Valentine is by far my favorite!
-All The Stars!-
This book follows top divorce attorney in LA, Addison DeWitt, she is amazing with a hard work ethic, smart, independent, and great at what she does. She is also a twin to a brother, Elliott, who is a laid-back adrenaline junkie and sometimes druggie that has no care, loves his sister, but not enough to stop his death wish. Elliott calls Addison and it’s a broken-up message but when she finally figures some things out she realizes her twin is stranded somewhere in Alaska so she does what the responsible twin always does and sets off to find Elliott and save him once again. She never expects to be attracted to the pilot, Gideon, that agrees to help her search for her brother, but she is and so is he. These two have an insane chemistry but are shrouded in despair because Addy is in a state of hopelessness and shock looking for Elliott, but they can’t fight it for too long because they need each other. Throughout the story we learn that Addy comes from a rough homelife when she was young and has only had herself to depend on so when tragedy strikes, she is alone, lashes out at Gideon, and walks away to a lonely and reckless lifestyle. Addison spiraling out of control was understandable because she had lost so much, so I understood why she did what she did and why she felt like she had to. Though I understood her I was still a little upset at her because of the position this put her in and I thought Gideon was entirely too forgiving, but he loved her and she was really regretful for her actions so I eventually forgave her too. Towards the end I felt happy that these two were starting to figure out their lives together, but I also felt that Addison was doing more than “compromising”. We are told they came to a compromise on most things, but not really shown it and I get the feeling that Addy did more convincing to an emotionally invested Gideon and he was willing to do so much for her but I got the feeling she wasn’t willing to do as much for him so it kind of made me angry towards her. Gideon was kind, caring, loving, accepting, and he was there for Addy through thick or thin so I hated he had to give up so much,, but he loved Addy and would do anything for her. I was happy when she finally realized how much she loved him, and he meant to her and that they found their happiness as a family. This was a great emotional read and can’t wait for more from this series.
The latest installment of Katy Regnery’s Odds Are Good series stole my heart!
High powered lawyer Addison heads to Alaska in desperation to find her missing brother. Helicopter tour guide Gideon agrees to help her and quickly finds himself falling for the guarded, stoic woman. Addison never dreamed she would find love in Alaska and is totally unprepared for the ramifications of her trip north.
I absolutely adored this story!!! Addison and Gideon came from completely different worlds but I loved the way they communicated and compromised. This is a fantastic series of stand alone books. I can’t wait to read the next one!!
This was an heartfelt page turning story. A 5 star that consumed my entire being, in one sitting.
Addison is an high powered attorney who’s used to control all aspects of her life, then tragedy strikes. She can’t cope. While in Alaska searching for answers, she met Gideon. Once she’s back on her feet, she returns to Alaska to find him.
I was shocked by the turn of events from this story. I was so distraught from Addison events. It’s really heartbreaking to read at times. This story was so perfectly created that I couldn’t seem to be able to put it down. It’s highly addicting and entertaining. It does come with an amazing HEA.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I highly recommend this story.
Being a huge fan of Katy Regnery’s I’ve read quite a few of her books so I always know going in that I’m going to enjoy the book I just never know if she is going to have me smiling like a lovestruck idiot or bawling like a baby. But it’s generally ok since I know the writing will be superb and I will walk away having read a great story. And I am loving The Odds Are Good Series. It’s not just a great twist on how these unexpected couples come together but it’s also a great geography teaser for someone a long way away from Alaska.
Addison was so poised and together that I have to admit she kind of intimidated me. She just had everything so well together I figured she had led a charmed life. But as we got to know her and she shared her story with Gideon and her love for her brother came through I really loved her. Her story just made her devotion to finding her brother that much more commendable.
But Gideon was gold to his soul. He was one of those people that you come across occasionally that everyone is drawn to. And I loved seeing how Addison’s jaded world view was chipped away by the genuine innate goodness of him. I couldn’t get enough of him and I really liked watching him and Addison get to know each other and learn to get past their differences and see their similarities.
And there were a lot of really heavy issues addressed in this story and they were done so perfectly. I felt all of the feels and I even shed a tear or two. And I can honestly say that I was never entirely sure which way things were going to go. But when I got to the end I was so happy to have read it and gotten to meet these two awesome characters. And I really can’t wait to read the next in the series.
A desperate call from her brother has Los Angeles attorney Addison dropping everything to rush to his aid in Alaska. She is out of her element in the wilds of Alaska, but her connection to her brother outweighs her discomfort.
As a helicopter pilot, Gideon is used to taking tourists on day trips into the mountains, but Addison’s request is a little different. The big payout at the end has him accepting as well as the quick attraction he feels towards her.
Their week together turned into more than either expected, but also ended in a way neither would have imagined. They were not expecting the bond that formed between them, so neither was sure what to do when their time together was over. And when that time was over, there was a lot of soul searching to find a way to make things work.
There were several massive heartbreak moments in this book. These two experience some major highs and lows along their journey. But to balance the lows, there are also great light hearted moments as well. For every deep, dark hit there is a ray of hope. They are dealing with a lot of situations in a short period of time and though I hurt for each of them at times, there were other times where their actions frustrated me. I had several scenes that I also wished we could have seen with more detail rather than having events happen off the page to hear about after the fact.
Though this is part of a series, each book stands alone completely. Each couple and their lives are fully isolated from the others. The thing I love about this series is that each couple has to face something bigger than just the Alaskan setting (in this case wilderness) and has to confront some pretty heavy topics.
*4,5 stars*
I always love a good story by this author as she’s one of my favorites. Her writing always draws you in and this story had so many things that you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. It had an emotional twist that really pulled on your heartstrings. Can’t wait to read more in this series!
Addison receives a frantic call from her brother and heads towards Alaska to try and find him. When she first meets Gideon, there’s an instant attraction between them and while he tries to help her finding her brother, their chemistry evolves every single day. When a devastating event occurs, Addison is left heartbroken but she will soon discover a surprise that will not only change her life but also Gideon’s life forever…
What a great book! My Valdez Valentine is a great addition to the Odds Are Good series by Katy Regnery. This book tells the story of Addison and Gideon. Addison is an attorney in Los Angeles who goes to Alaska in search of her twin brother. While there she employs Gideon to help her find him. At first it seems as though Addison and Gideon are worlds apart but as we learn throughout the story they actually have more in common than either of them thought. There are some tough subject matters addressed in this book and Katy Regnery with her usual grace and prose handles them wonderfully. Although this book is part of a series it can read as complete stand alone. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend grabbing a copy of all the Odds Are Good books they are all delightful!!
Oh. My. Goodness! My heart!
What an emotional ride this was! It’s been a LONG time since I was wrecked by a book and Addison and Gideon tore me apart!
I could not put My Valdez Valentine down once I started reading! It made me cry more than once, and honestly, that doesn’t happen often.
You do not want to miss this heartwrenching story of love blooming in the midst of tragedy and second chances.

Romance and emotion collide to take readers on an adventure of the heart. Regnery gives the heart a definite workout with My Valdez Valentine. Addison and Gideon are as unpredictable as they are intriguing. They can turn up the heat almost as quickly as they can bring on the heartache. There is always a twist to keep hearts invested in a journey that will leave you breathless.
4.5 Star Review My Valdez Valentine (Odds-Are-Good #4) by Katy Regnery
My Valdez Valentine is the fourth book in the series and was an entertaining and at times heart stopping read.
I fell hard and fast for Alaskan helicopter pilot, Gideon, there was just something about him that ticked the boxes for me and then some.
Worried about her adventurer twin brother, Elliot, Addison (Addy) hires Gideon to take her to his last known location, however not all is as it seems. Addy and Gideon soon find themselves facing challenges they never thought they would, particularly the emotions that they stir in one another.
The chemistry between Gideon and Addy was smoking hot; I loved the characters, both separately and especially once they got together, although I will admit I had a hard time liking Addy initially.
My Valdez Valentine was at times an angsty, emotional read which had me on the edge of my seat; this addition to the series seemed to be a more serious book than the previous stories. Ms. Regnery broke my heart but thankfully she put it back together again, although I was concerned at times.
As I have come to expect from a book by Katy Regnery, the writing was strong, and the characters were easy to relate too and realistic. This was a beautifully written, heartwarming, emotional story which was a great read.
The Odds-Are-Good series has another must read with Addison and Gideon’s story in My Valdez Valentine. It’s a real page turner from the very beginning. It’s one that will stay with you long after you close the book. I have loved every book I’ve read by Katy Regnery but this one will be at the very top of my all time favorites. The pace of the story is perfect and is a realistic romantic that will keep you wanting more. I absolutely loved it.
Get ready, Addison and Gideon’s story is one of pain and new beginnings.
Addison is a high profile attorney in Los Angeles who supports her thrill-seeking twin brother Elliot. The siblings had a rough childhood molding them into the people they are now. One day Addison receives a panicked filled phone call from Elliot. Through some investigation, she finds out he is in Alaska. Addison hires bush pilot Gideon to help her locate her brother. The more time they spend together looking for Elliot, they realize how easy it is to be themselves and they begin to fall in love.
Our couple goes through so much in this book. There is so much I want to say but I won’t spoil it for you. My emotions were all over the place and I appreciated every step these two took to get to their happy ending. By far the best of the series!
OMG! What a book! Do not let the cover or the title of My Valdez Valentine trick you into thinking that this story is a light, fun piece of fluff. This story will break your heart and slowly put it back together. As you can see from the blurb Addison is a high powered L.A. divorce attorney. This woman lives and breathes for her career. Her heart has one weak spot and that is for her twin brother Elliot. Elliot is a free spirt who happens to land in Valdez, Alaska on a skiing adventure and goes missing. Addison will move heaven and earth to get to her brother and heads up there. In her search she meets a local helicopter guide that she hires to assist her. Gideon is a native Alaskan. He likes his life up here but is lonely and had recently placed an ad in the Odds Are Good site. He never realized that in doing so would connect him with a woman who would forever mark his heart. This is the beginning of an emotional journey that will make you believe in fate and love eternal. My Valdez Valentine does not sugarcoat the realities of stress and life choices. Parts of it will rip your heart apart but Katy Regnery skillfully puts it back together. I have read the other books in the series. Each one is unique and stands completely alone. It is not necessary to read any of the other books but I do recommend them because they are all very good in their own unique way. My Valdez Valentine was told from dual POV and will break your heart and put it back together in the very best way!
An intense, page-turning hit, full of emotional topics. Katy Regnery kept me up late with this highly emotional book.
In My Valdez Valentine Addison, an LA divorce attorney, receives a desperate call from her adventurous brother that unfortunately cuts in and out. Elliot gave her bits of information that leads her to believe he’s in trouble. This isn’t the first time her brother has gone off on a dangerous adventure, but something about this message sounds more ominous than most. Addison heads to Alaska and hires Gideon, a helicopter tour pilot, to help search for him, fearing her brother may have little time left and since she isn’t familiar with the area she needs all the help she can get.
I love that even though Addison is smart and normally has a level head on her shoulders, when it comes to her wild brother, she does anything she can to take care of him. Addison proclaims not to understand misplaced emotions, or to ever succumb to the frivolous emotion of love, but the one exception in her life is her brother. She doesn’t want to give up the search and that is where Gideon steps in. Their connection is immediate, but she puts it on a backshelf in lieu of finding her brother.
Gideon is a helicopter tour pilot, so he knows the area, but he is not normally in the business of search and rescue. When Addison shows up asking questions about her lost brother, he offers his services and he’s drawn to her for reasons he can’t really explain. Gideon is just a good guy, no ifs, ands, or buts. He is the perfect mix of horny, hot male and sweet, loving gentleman. For Gideon his attraction to Addison is instant, but he also doubts his own attraction from her numerous times, which is heartbreaking, but also makes him very easy to fall for. Addison is quick to compliment and put him at ease, which lights him up. He’s very easy to please and super patient. Once you get to know both of their backgrounds you realize they are a perfect match for one another.
Gideon has a huge heart which he made it kind of hard to hide, but Addison’s lack of wanting to fall in love made it easy for Gideon to get away with him wearing his on his sleeve. He’s not a pushover by any means, so don’t misconstrue what I’m saying. Gideon is exactly what Addison needs in her life to help her understand the feelings she’s never experienced before. This is where I think they are the perfect give and take couple.
I love the chemistry they have, but constantly try to keep at bay. They are both extremely intelligent people and try to tackle their relationship intellectually vs. hormonally, but how long can that last….yeah I love this side of the human species, because chemistry and explosions are bound to happen eventually when the heat is turned up. Well done Katy! You are amazing and tackled some very tough issues in this beautiful story. Another hit in the Odds-Are-Good series.
ARC received for an honest review
I have really enjoyed the previous books in the Odds-Are-Good series, so I was pretty sure that I was also going to like this fourth installment.
I didn’t just like this one, I loved it.
Addison and Gideon’s story is full of lust and spark and all things to be expected. However it was also so much more.
I was not expecting the heartache and the pain that My Valdez Valentine gave me. Oh my heart!
I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say you should expect a lot more emotion than the previous installments.
I adore Addy and Gideon, even when I don’t like them at times. You can’t help but feel for them, hurt and love with them.
I also have to say – I have never been a fan of places with 32 gazillion miles of snow and ice and cold and blegh (even when I am complaining about melting because OMG it is soooo hot!!) – but I am finding myself wanting to move to Alaska and find one of these hot men of my own!
I really am enjoying this series, and cannot wait for the next installment.
This book is so bittersweet. Love and family comes out of tragedy.
I loved both the hero, Gideon, and heroine, Addison. They seemed like real people that overcame adversity. The story is fast paced and has unexpected twists. You can truly feel their love for each other growing throughout the book. Maybe my favorite of this series. But, I love them all, so it’s hard to say!
