Genevieve Munroe was determined to end the feud between her family and their neighbors, the Pentercasts. But accepting the handsome Alan Pentercast’s wager to marry him if he could give her all the gifts in the Twelve Days of Christmas song was surely going too far! Regency Romance by Regina Scott; originally published as The Twelve Days of Christmas by Zebra Regency
My true love
The story of how two feuding families come together while a wolf in sheep’s clothing roam their midst. It’s the holiday season and true love and forgiveness save the day. I loved the Twelve Days of Christmas story line especially the use of the regency version. I felt for Genevieve at first having to keep her family afloat with their diminishing circumstances. But then her ongoing disbelief in Alan’s true affection for her eased my sorrow for her a little bit. But without her attitude we would have no Twelve Days. And what creative days were. My favorite day was Seven Swans a-Swimming if no other day leading up to this day did not prove Alan’s love for Genevieve this should have been a sign from the heavens. But no she still did not believe. And then there’s poor Geoffrey just because he’s ill mannered, drinks and gets into mischief occasionally he’s automatically the bad guy. I had it figured out early on who the true villain was which put me way ahead of the people in the book. Luckily Allison was no fool young yes but no fool. Honestly after the Wenwood Thorn tree was chopped down I just wanted to scream there were so many red flags the only thing missing was for the villain to wear a sign that said I’m the VILLAIN ! It was a fun read. I’m off to find out how Geoffrey and Allison get together in book two The Rogue Next Door.
Such a charming book! I read it over the holidays and it was just what I needed to keep me in the holiday spirit! What a great way to incorporate the Twelve day of Christmas. A romantic, lovely book that I can definitely revisit year after year!
Quick read, interesting, fun loving with a fun filled bet.
I really enjoyed this book. Entertaining story about the two feuding families with the added Twelve Days of Christmas gifts. I am amazed when authors write a story and I feel that I actually know the characters. Truly a gift.
A unique twist on a familiar Christmas song.
This was a fun, clean story

Very enjoyable. Lighthearted.
Delightful holiday romance.
A little slow at first but such a cute story.
His heart was the sweetest gift he gave his true love.
Since her father’s death, Miss Genevieve Munroe has been secretly trying to put her family’s finances to right, without having to sacrifice herself to a loveless marriage. Sadly, all her efforts have only made it possible for her mother and sister to have one last happy Christmas at their old abbey. After that…well she will think about it after their holiday.
Not caring about some age-old feud, Squire Alan Pentercast has nurtured his love for Genevieve since she was 16. Now that she and her family have returned to the abbey, he is determined to make her his bride. No matter what he must do, he will marry Gen Munroe.
In spite of a few negative reviews, I took a chance and downloaded My True Love Gave to Me by Regina Scott. I liked the book synopsis and indeed it was a cute Yuletide story that was both very clean and somewhat sweet and tender. However, I can understand some of the negative reviews, but I am also thankful for the positive elements of this Regency era romance.
The writing was very good, as was the development of all of the characters. Also, the ratio of thoughts to dialogue helped to balance out the angst. There were even a number of witty and downright funny parts that had me smiling and even chuckling. Then a few scenes and some of Alan Pentercast’s behavior and actions got under my skin. His arrogant and bullish side did not endear him at all. I also had an issue with Gen’s inability to give her family the financial reality facts in an intelligent and forceful way.
All in all, this was an entertaining read, with an imaginative plot, and a sweet and happy ending. Certainly worth my time to read it.
Great, clean book!
