New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her keen insights into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness.
Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and … transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate — a life and a role that she has never challenged…until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister — and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.
My Sister’s Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child’s life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, in My Sister’s Keeper, Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity.

Jodi Picoult never disappoints and My Sister’s Keeper was no exception. It was so hard to figure out who to root for in the book because each side had good reason for their point of view. And don’t worry, there is as usual an unexpected twist or two in the book. Part way through the book, I realized I had seen the movie, but the ending still …
really left me thinking!
Not a fan
This was a sad but beautiful book. Very well written, as are all her books.
Very different topic and she always has a great ending
Jodi pulls you into all her books. This was not an exception. Discussion at book club was so intense.
Great book!
I like the way Jodi weaves new information into her writing so I learn a lot while enjoying a story. The characters are complex and have different voices and perspectives… which is super interesting and expands my own perspective on things. Love Jodi!
This author’s books are interesting to read and page-turners but you always know that something terrible awaits you at the end of the story…down right horrifying!
It’s well-written, but just not my kind of book, I guess. But I did love the ending.
One of my favorite titles Jodi has written. Very emotional story and hits your heart in many ways.
This was the first book I read by Jodi Picoult. Since then, I have read everything she has ever written. She just might be my favorite author ever.
Very thought provoking.
I liked this book e an though it was sad. It shows the realistic feelings of a family dealing with a horrible situation.
Wonderful as are all of her books. A balanced review that will move you.
I did not like this story at all. I only finished it because I was on a plane and had nothing else to read.
Although this book is very sad, it was entertaining and the character development was excellent.
The stairs is about a girl who was “genetically engineered” in order to be a donor for her sister. It is a story about the coming of age of this young girl when she stands up to her parents and denies them access to her body.
Interesting …
Great story with great characters.
