MY REBOUND by Carrie Ann Ryan is the second in her ON MY OWN series. Mackenzie Thomas is a little shell shocked after discovering her high school sweetheart cheating on her. Pacey Ziglar suggests they go out on a practice date, just to get back on the horse, so to speak. He doesn’t expect her to say yes, much less for them to actually develop real feelings for each other. But sometimes life doesn’t go the way you might anticipate.
Carrie Ann Ryan’s characters grip you from the start and don’t let go. Mackenzie and Pacey are surprised by how well they get along and how much they have in common. Study sessions for their demanding majors turn into something to look forward to.
Ms Ryan does an incredible job writing realistically about their lives, about the pressures they face juggling challenging academic schedules and navigating evolving friendships with roommates and BFFs and arch-nemeses, about roadblocks and other forces women face in STEM and academia, and the love, anxiety, frustration, and emotion families and friends bring.
My Rebound is not to be missed!
Oh my.. Mackenzie is my kind of gal pal. At the beginning of this story, I was laughing with how mechanical Mackenzie is when it comes to organization. I am such a stickler like her and completely related.
Pacey was a sweetheart. He made my heart flip flop and pulled on my emotions. I knew he was perfect for Mackenzie from the moment he told her he would be her rebound.
My Rebound is a sweet story about a second chance at love. I highly recommend this read to all my book friends. It was a perfect escape and I can’t wait to read more in this series!
I really enjoyed My Rebound its the second book in the On My Own series and they just keep getting better!!!
There has never been any doubt in Mackenzie’s mind where her future lay and that means a career in mathematics and a happy ever after with her boyfriend. When her life hits a roadblock, both personally and professionally, she is floundering and decides the way out of her funk is a rebound relationship with Pacey where they both know the ground rules.
Pacey is more than willing to spend time with Mackenzie and help her adjust to the hand she has just been dealt. He is a man who has a lot going on with his life and prefers to keep everything he is going through private. He wasn’t surprised by the physical connection between them, but the powerful emotional connection was a curveball he didn’t see coming.
Neither was looking for a relationship but sometimes love happens when you least expect it. With everything that was going on in their lives the strength and support they gave each other proved that they were meant to be.
5 AMAZING STARS!! Wow, what a fantastic sweet story. I absolutely loved Mackenzie and Pacey will hit all you feels buttons and have loving every minute of their story. You must read this one….it is the perfect escape reality story.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was very excited to read the second. Let me just say, this story delivered! Mackenzie and Pacey had fantastic chemistry and their story sucked me in. I felt Mackenzie’s heart break and know how it feels to have life veer off course. Carrie Ann Ryan wrote such a fantastic story and I can’t wait for her next book.
Finally Mackenzie and Pacey’s story!!! Love me some Pacey!! He is deff the boyfriend you read about and want!!! Mackenzie never saw her life changing the way it has. She thought she had found her happily ever after until…. she walks in on Sanders and another girl. She doesn’t know how to move on, don’t know how to be her any more. She moves in with Nessa and Eloise and decides to focus on school work and herself. Pacey struggles with him own problems from his parents divorcing and him hiding a few details about himself from his roomies, he suggests a rebound, just to get back out there and get back in the game. Over time the line between rebound friend and lovers gets blurred. Through ups and downs and struggles their relationship pulls at your heart. Loved this story!!! Excited to read the next in the series but Pacey and Mackenzie are my favorite!!!!!
My Rebound is Book 2 of the On My Own series. Even though it stands perfectly fine on its own, this series is awesome so I highly recommend reading Book 1. To be honest, just pick up Carrie Ann Ryan’s entire backlist, you won’t regret it!
Having met and adored both Pacey and Mackenzie in Book 1 AND after that massive teaser the author hit us with at the end, I could not wait for this book to release. Ms. Ryan did not disappoint. I loved everything about this story; the drama, the romance, the characters.
Of course, Ms. Ryan had to hit us AGAIN with another teaser. Ugh! She’s killing me. I cannot wait for Miles’ story.
While each book in the On My Own series is about a different couple, there is an over-arching theme throughout the series of these young college students “growing up” and figuring out what life is about. I enjoy seeing them figure it out together by being there for each other.
My Rebound is about Pacey and Mackenzie. She’s trying to get over a past heartbreak and he’s trying to be her friend. Watching them navigate this relationship that neither of them were planning on was fun. Ms. Ryan has such a knack for making you feel like you are there with them or at least remembering what those times were like when you were that age. Lol
Looking forward to the next book.
One of my favorite stores are friends to lovers and this one hit all the right spots.
Mackenzie breaks up with the one who she thought was the love of her life but he had other ideas. So she decides to find a rebound so others don’t think she is pining for her ex.
Her friend Pacey steps and volunteers. It was so much fun seeing them find their way from being friends to so much more. Their chemistry was amazing and oh boy the ending!
This book was amazing I absolutely loved Pacey ! The chemistry between Pasey and Mackenzie just perfect . McKenzie had a plan for her life she did her homework did her research and had everything written down from A-to-Z. Than life like always those curveballs and she just got the biggest one of all. Heartbroken & a little unsure she decides to she needs a rebound to help get her though! Pacey smart funny and very sexy offers to be her rebound and friend . What he didn’t think would happen was the feelings she brings out in him and can she trust and learn to love again ? This is the second book in The On My Own Series and it is definitely a great read !!!
Omg I loved reading this book.
Mackenzie is devastated to find out that the person she thought she was going to live her whole life with cheated on her. Now everything she knows and has planned for has gone. She knows that she needs to spend time on herself but when Pacey is offering her a rebound, in whatever form she wants, she can’t say no.
Pacey is always there to help everyone and he can’t believe it himself when he offers to be Mackenzie’s rebound. He doesn’t do long term.
When feelings start to change will they tell each other and try to ignore it.
Both their lifes are turned upside throughout the book and they handle most of it together but can they admit to their feelings.
So much love and plenty of emotion and even more drama but can they get their HEA.
A must read and I can’t wait for Nessa and Miles book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Loving this new series! Mackenzie moves in with the girls after her breakup with Paul. Time to refocus and get a new life plan. Although maybe a rebound wouldn’t be a bad idea? Pacey is happy to oblige on that! But Pacey has some problems of his own. It was a great story of watching each of their struggles and how they decide to move forward. Is it just a rebound?
I really enjoyed Pacey and Mackenzie’s story, being british its the one i was looking forward to most to recognize the british quirks i loved how they stood by each other even when things get tough, once again through all the Montgomery and spin offs I’ve found yet another couple where i can say ‘they’re my favourite’
I am so in love ….. Pacy and Mackenzie are so fun and adorably real they make my heart hurt in the best way. The emotional roller coaster this group of collage friends is on is so deeply engaging it just has me on the edge of my seat waiting for what will happen next.
This is the second book in the On My Own series. It’s Pacey’s book . I’ve got a bit of a crush on him, the whole sexy Brit thing. But as we find out, there’s so much more to him. As Mackenzie finds out. After walking in on a not pleasant sight (her ex with another woman), Pacey helps her to hold her head up, move on and keep going. And boy he makes that easier. They go through some rough times during the semester, but in the end they fight through together. I can’t wait to read the next roommates book!
I really enjoyed this book. I wasn’t sure how I would like MacKenzie and Pacey as a couple but it really worked. I did feel for Pacey though because he didn’t want to hurt anyone but he started to have real feelings for MacKenzie even though they were only supposed to be friends and the casual rebound. MacKenzie is also great. Her character grew so much throughout this book and though she was dealing with some everyday college stuff she was also dealing with stuff that the average college student doesn’t deal with. I thought the book was a quick read and kept me interested throughout.
*I received an ARC for an honest review*
This series just keeps getting better and better. My Rebound is the second book in the On My Own series and even though it can be read as a stand-alone it’s also great reading these in order. Mackenzie and Pacey are great characters with some good angst thrown in. I can’t wait to see where else this series goes next.
I want to start by saying I did not read book 1, but had no issues jumping into this one.
First off I just want to say the Dawson’s Creek reference made this90’s kid very happy.
Second off Mackenzie just might be one of my favorite characters. While I am not 100% relatable I could see pieces of how I can relate to her personality. I loved seeing her bounce back after what she thought her life plan was. She is very hesitant to jump into Pacey’s offer to be her rebound after a very unexpected breakup.
On a side note I loved seeing how all the guys took her side in the breakup acknowledging what their former friend did to her was very wrong.
Deep down I think we all want a friend like Pacey, and I very much enjoyed seeing him and Mackenzie work through the ends and outs of their relationship. Starting out as friends and moving to something a little more, and Mackenzie’s uncertainty of it all.
These two are definitely the perfect balance for each other. I need to go back and read book 1, but I cant wait to see what happens with Miles.
4.5 Stars
I liked this story even better than the first one in the series. Pacey and Mackenzie are just so great together!
