This book was okay. But I felt like a lot of important scenes were missing or mentioned in passing. After Lucy left Hayden’s house, we never got a scene where she had to face him on set, carter was the producer but never seemed to be on set or doing anything really, the morning Carter left was skipped over. I felt like the author was telling most of the story instead of letting the reader experience it.
Star crossed lovers? Yup. Spitfire aspiring actress (Lucy Roberts) heroine and sports star (Carter Roberts) banter? Yummy. Fake girlfriend to sooo much more? You betcha. Iris Morland’s My One and Only, first in her series of standalone The Youngers novels (and part of a family of interconnected series called Love Everlasting) really does have it all. And it all is so very much fun. Be prepared to smile when reading this novel. It’s virtually guaranteed. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
My One and Only
by Iris Moreland
Lucy Younger had been trying to make it a n Hollywood, but, she was just about to give up and go home. Then, she got an amazing break, to co-star with the actor she’d been crushing on for the past year, Hayden Masterson! Carter Roberts, after being temporarily sidelined from playing baseball, takes a job being the executive producer of a new film. His friend, Anthony Bertram, was funding this movie and wanted to get his friend to do something besides wallow in liquor and women, so he made him the executive producer, even though Carter knew nothing about the job. When Lucy first meets Carter, she finds him to be arrogant and conceited, and thinks he’s only a lowly assistant. She doesn’t like Carter, she only has her sights set on Hayden. Carter is entranced by Lucy and offers to help her get Hayden by pretending to date her while they’re in Seattle, in order to make Hayden jealous. Does this really sound like a good plan? What happens at the end of filming? Will Lucy ever get what or who she wants? This story is quite entertaining and enjoyable. I like Hayden, as much as you could really like an egotistical, condescending know-it-all. Lucy is quite enchanting despite her rather childish view of the entertainment world. I liked Carter the best because of his down to earth attitude and his better-than-just-ballplayer persona. He’s the real winner and the real prize!
I voluntarily read this Advance Readers Copy for an honest review.
A wonderful story as we watch both Lucy and Carter grow-up and find each other.
Loved reading about Lucy and Carter!! I can’t wait to read the next book
Finding Love
And happiness. Carter is lost he injured his rotary cuff and is benched from playing, so his friend Anthony ask he to oversee a movie he is producing. Lucy got this job and her sister Thea’s boyfriend is the executive producer. That is were Carter & Lucy meet.
Stick with it, cause the motives and plot works itself out. Some funny parts; some steamy parts, some ‘me too’ parts. Ran a little long.
An entertaining afternoon read with wonderful characters. A relaxing afternoon read.
The drama associated to being famous or associated to the famous is very well captured in this intriguing story. Full of tricks, bets, daring flirtation, and hot chemistry I enjoyed the read.
A quick and satisfying read! The main characters were confrontational to start with and then became tightly intertwined with each other. I love baseball stories , so having the pro player who is now injured intrigued me. Very well written, good descriptions of the countryside on Hazel Island, and well developed characters.
It was absolutely a beautiful book I couldn’t put it down until I read it all
The sex and language were unnecessary to the plot!
The story dragged for me, it took me a while to read. To be truthful its not my type of story.
It lacked a good story line. Too much repetition
I enjoyed the storyline and characters. Easy to read. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
Enjoyed the story line and was an easy read.
Unfortunately, way too many steamy parts to skip over and way too much use of the of the “f” word for my taste.
** spoiler alert ** The only thing that Lucy has ever wanted was to be an actress. Due to being a baseball player, Carter has never had to work hard to get a woman. Both of their careers are on the line. Will Lucy be able to live her dream? Will Carter realize there is more to life than baseball?
Loved this love-hate relationship between these two. I definitely thought at times that Lucy was innocent and naive, but it added to her charm that she wasn’t jaded. I liked the fact that even though Carter didn’t want to admit his feelings, he still took that chance in the end. Great read!
I loved this series.
Lucy and Carter make this book so interesting to read.
The plot is well written with lots of different twists.
Iris Morland is an amazing writer.
With each additional look into the Younger family’s exploits I am more and more drawn into their world. Lucy is ready for Mr Deville to do his close up. This was supposed to be her big break and she is taking full advantage of all the fringe benefits. Her costar being the biggest one! When a cocky and self assured jock offers to help play Cyrano de Bergerac to her. Carter knows from the moment he spits Lucy that he is going to derail her plans and get her to see him as more than a means to an end. He was supposed to be recouping but he finds something even better to do with his time.
