From USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Peel comes a wickedly charming, flirty, and clever friends to lovers story. Loveless is more than a name, it’s a curse.I, Emma Loveless, have a destiny. It’s not the greatest of destinies, but when you have a name like Loveless, what can you do? I’m cursed to always be the friend, never the girlfriend. Unless you count my love affair with Duncan Hines, … count my love affair with Duncan Hines, Dr. Pepper, and the ever-lovable Pillsbury Doughboy. They’ve seen me through it all, but a girl needs more than refined sugar to curl up to every night. It doesn’t help that I have a meddling, albeit wonderful, mother who can’t help playing matchmaker. Thanks to her, I can say I’ve been on a date with a felon. Now she swears she’s found the one for me, her new optometrist, Dr. Sawyer King. Meanwhile, I’m preparing for the inevitable restraining order. That is, until I meet the sexy doctor and have to admit my mother is right–love at first sight does exist.
Unfortunately, my last name means business. Not only do I find myself in the friend zone, but also the twilight zone. Only in my world would Mr. Right turn into my stepbrother. To top it off, he brings with him a wicked stepmother who will do anything to keep us apart. Despite all this my heart–or is that my mom?–keeps telling me Sawyer is the one. But what if true love isn’t strong enough to interfere with my destiny? It’ll be me and the Doughboy…for eternity.

I liked the dry sarcastic humor. There was a good villian in the step mother. A lot of talk about her not so toned body and love for sugar that I think sometimes was too frequent. Had me turning the pages and guessing how it’d all turn out. I could feel the h’s turmoil and feelings. The characters were all great. I liked the h & H. Overall the story was well written and I will read more in the series.
Typically anything with the word Step-anything in the title or summary is a hard pass for me especially in a romance novel. I gave this one a shot because I am a fan of Jennifer Peel’s books. I am so glad I didn’t pass. I really enjoyed this book and the main characters Sawyer and Emma. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Loved this book! Fantastic, clean romance, but still with plenty of chemistry and heat. Loved Emma and Sawyer. Not so crazy about her family, but they did at least start to redeem themselves by the end of the book. This is most definitely a great start to her new series and I’m already on pins and needles over here waiting for the next book to come out!
I just loved this book! Emma was a great lead character that I had no problem connecting with. There was times I laughed and then there were times I got choked up and shed some tears. A few times I wanted to shake Sawyer and I would have liked to seen it played out with a couple characters getting what was coming to them…but overall the story flowed well and I found myself not being able to put it down! I gave it 5 stars and I can’t wait to read Shelby’s story next!
Love almost all of Jennifer’s books – the rare re-reads for me. There are only a couple where way too much self-body negativity is continuously internally harped upon by the book’s heroine. This is one of them. Em’s snarky self put downs of her physical features became uncomfortable and distracting/disruptive from the story itself. The story left you feeling that her self-image issues could only be alleviated by the acceptance of her crush. Her relationship with her mom is the best thing but the body obsession almost override even that. Less is more. Love the strong portrayals of confident fun quirky women in the other books – any of their flaws or insecurities were used to move the plot/story along. Always look forward to Jennifer’s next book!
