A heartfelt memoir from one of Hollywood’s greatest iconsDick Van Dyke, indisputably one of the greats of the golden age of television, is admired and beloved by audiences the world over for his beaming smile, his physical dexterity, his impeccable comic timing, his ridiculous stunts, and his unforgettable screen roles. His trailblazing television program, The Dick Van Dyke Show (produced by … Van Dyke Show (produced by Carl Reiner, who has written the foreword to this memoir), was one of the most popular sitcoms of the 1960s and introduced another major television star, Mary Tyler Moore. But Dick Van Dyke was also an enormously engaging movie star whose films, including Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, have been discovered by a new generation of fans and are as beloved today as they were when they first appeared.
A colorful, loving, richly detailed look at the decades of a multilayered life, My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business, will enthrall every generation of reader, from baby-boomers who recall when Rob Petrie became a household name, to all those still enchanted by Bert’s “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” This is a lively, heartwarming memoir of a performer who still thinks of himself as a “simple song-and-dance man,” but who is, in every sense of the word, a classic entertainer.

I grew up watching the Dick Van Dyke show and have loved his entertaining presence in both TV and Movies. If you are a fan you will enjoy this slice of his life.
He has had a full and interesting life.
Enjoyed this book and learning more about Dick Van Dyke. Having “grown up” watching him, it was fun to read his perspective on his life.
Great autobiography of Dick Van Dyke. Funny anecdotal stories about his life and family. Loved it and love him even more after reading it all.
Interesting. I’d read in the “voice” of dick van dyke, you can understand it. Otherwise it’s just poorly written.
A great book about the great man
Like Dick VanDyke sooo…
Immensely informative of a personality I (and my husband) have enjoyed all our lives.
I enjoy autobiographies of people in the entertainment industry. Dick Van Dyke seems to be a nice person who has managed to survive and do well in a cut-throat industry.
Thoroughly enjoyable! This books moves along with the pace and humor one thinks of when Dick Van Dyke comes to mind!
Loved getting to know Dick on a more personal basis. Glad to see I can still believe in his character.
This biography of Dick Van Dyke did not disappoint. I learned a lot about his life, successes and struggles and still respected him in the morning! This would be a great read for his fans.

Entertaining
I liked knowing more about Dick and his interesting life. Sometimes it made me sad but he exposed his character flaws for all to see.
Good book. I didn’t know he had so much hardship and personal problems before his success.
I enjoyed this book and now my husband is reading it. He said he likes it so far, also.
Dick Van Dyke comes off as just what one would suspect: warm and funny.
I enjoyed this book because it was a wholesome success story that harkened back to a simpler, more innocent time in America. I suspect that Dick may have omitted some of the less glamorous details of his life story, but that’s fine.
Love Dick Van Dyke. Was interesting to hear how he became famous.
Informative and entertaining bio of beloved American enrertainer.
