Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith in this wildly compulsive debut thriller about a couple whose fifteen-year marriage has finally gotten too interesting…
Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored.
We look like a normal couple. We’re your neighbors, the parents of your kid’s friend, the acquaintances you keep meaning to get dinner with.
We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive.
Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.

I found this story very disturbing. I’m sure that this is exactly what the author intended, however, I felt that so much of the “way” the characters managed to do what they did in the book was left out. How did the wife do what she did without the husband not having some kind of inkling that she was up to something? Also, there was a brief encounter in the book as to why the two main characters did the despicable things that they did, but it didn’t did up to taking random women to kill them for togetherness. I was also disappointed that the husband got away with it all only to suggest that he is starting up again at the end of the book.it seemed as if the author was giving him a conscious of sorts toward the end. The worst part is the way their actions impacted their children…the husband seemed to be the only one who cared, yet he kept doing what he was doing. I found myself asking out loud through the entire book…”But, why?” I think the characters could have been a little more deeply explored to bring out their psychological need to do the heinous things that they did together. And, the wife totally turned on her husband, but it wasn’t sudden…she had planned to all along…why? I needed more to help me understand the psychopathy of these characters. I was glad when the book ended. I almost stopped half way through, because it made absolutely no sense to me how these two even started doing what they did. The author finally showed a little of their twisted motives, but not enough.
Although the ending was mostly unbelievable, at least this book had a solid conclusion and resolution, unlike many of its current contemporaries. I liked the pacing and plotting. A solid effort. I didn’t wholly see the plot twist in advance, but the numerous details required to wholly believe the twist fell short. Interesting writing style used for the unnamed narrator’s voice, but I would have liked more details on his motives and background.
I think it was a rip off of Gone Girl and nowhere near as good.
Loved this novel
WOW! Not a whole lot more to say, except that this book is terrific from beginning to end. A must-read
You never really get what you think you will get when reading this book! A very different story with lots of twists! A good mystery, but not like the kind that the police solve!

Nice job with the plot twists. I could not relate to the characters. This was not an enjoyable book for me as “murder for fun” is not a topic I would want promoted. Very unsettling!!
GREAT book and yes, I do recommend it… at least for some… probably not everyone’s cup of tea and it’s not really even my own normal read. However, without giving anything away, the book it basically about a serial killer but the author manages to tell a captivatingly suspenseful story without a lot of gore or too many gruesome details. So it’s somehow “tastefully” done, at least IMHO. It kept me thinking and guessing and occasionally I would go back and re-read a few pages, just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Can’t wait to read this author’s next book (this was her debut) which comes out July 20th!
A very odd book. Not a page turner but you want to see how it ends. Not like the thriller books that I usually read.
I’m giving this book 5 stars because it is so original and unusual. It’s nice to read a book unlike any I have read before.
I was hooked from the first page. The book is filled with twists and turns and I was very surprised by the ending. I literally stayed up all night to finish this book!!
Fast-paced read. Didn’t see the twisting end coming.
This was so insane. I started out reading on my Kindle but, not far in, I decided it was something my partner would be entertained by and switched to audiobook. We liked the narrator, David Pittu. We thought he did a good job with staying in character.
The book opens with Tobias, our narrator, picking up a woman in a bar. He is deaf so he uses his phone to communicate. We goes home with her for a one night stand. As he is leaving we find out several things. He lied to her, and us. Tobias is not his name. He is not deaf. He is a serial killer and she dodged a death. “Tobias,” (we never find out his real name), goes home and we find out he has a wife and two children. Then comes another twist.
This book has funny timing for me. It is a bit slow, while we hear a lot about how he met his wife, about his life, her life, their children. It is, at the same time, a bit fast as I kept reading all the way until the end. There were several twists, (which since I don’t want to give away anything limits what I am writing), that were kind of crazy to us. Some things, with the kids, I was like, the parents are worried about this when these other things are happening? It was all a part of the insanity. I thought it all tied up, with some unexpected stuff, in a way that I was left with an understanding of all that. I did have a couple remaining questions that deal a bit with nature vs nurture type of things and responsibilities. I’m okay with that, though, as I like when a book leaves me exploring what it implies and doesn’t imply along with my opinions on things.
I had this one on my TBR since last year. My only regret was how long it took me to get around to reading it. If you like unbelievably twisty psychological tales, this might be one for you.
Couldn’t figure the whole thing out till the near the very end.
One of the best books of this kind that I’ve read. Well told and well written with several twists and turns. I loved every page of this one !
Emotional roller coaster
Boring, with flat, one-dimensional characters. No reference at all as to their relationship or decision making process to so what they do. More questions than answers. I bailed at 30% – I couldn’t force myself to continue.
Excellent writing, plot and characters. It moves along quickly and is a great read!
This book was so good I would have given it 5 stars but the end was very disappointing.
