Jessie has one rule: No dating airmen. Unfortunately, Derrick Allen doesn’t seem to care. But what does it matter? Prince Charming had a horse, not a cargo plane.JessieA strange silence settled over the car. And though I scrolled through my inbox, I found myself more and more unsettled by the man sitting beside me. Which was stupid. This was Derrick, the guy who tormented me for half of our … guy who tormented me for half of our relationship and spent the other half playing pranks and begging me to help him avoid his boss.
So why I did I feel like I was really meeting him for the first time? And why did it suddenly feel like maybe…maybe it was time to rethink the rules after all?
Derrick
It had to be the uniform. Women were weird about uniforms. It was just something I wore every day. It had function and utility. Once I’d accidentally terrified a group of kids in a gas station, who I quickly realized were from another country. But Jessie didn’t look terrified. She looked…curious.
And though that would have concerned me two months ago, now I couldn’t help but wonder if I liked it.

My Little Rock Ariman is the first book in Brittany Fichter’s new series, My Air Force Fairy Tale Books. In this series, Brittany writes contemporary fiction that is inspired by a well loved fairy tale. This book grabbed my attention and I loved seeing hints of a fairy tale hidden within it. I was so excited to read My Little Rock Airman and I am so happy to say that I loved it.
My Little Rock Airman is inspired by the well loved fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. Once I figured this out everything made so much more sense. All Jessie Nickleby wants is to find security, and for her that means getting her Masters degree. Even if she has to work during the summer, Jessie will do anything to get her degree. But being a tutor for Jade, one of the students, is much harder than she thinks. She not only has to care for her student, but also find out how to deal with Jade’s older protective brother. But people aren’t always what they first seem and as she gets to know Jade’s brother, Derrick, she finds herself liking him. Unfortunately she has a plan for life and she needs to stick to it, or does she?
Derrick just wants to protect his sister. She is everything to him and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Even if it means getting next to no sleep, to hang out with her and her tutor. At first, he messes with Jessie but as he gets to know her he learns that she really does care for his sister. The more time Derrick spends with Jessie, he finds himself falling for her. But she has a plan for life, a set of rules, and he isn’t part of it. How can he find a way to get Jessie to take the leap with him, will he win her or just push her away?
It was so sweet to see how much Derrick cared for Jade, he really loved his little sister. I fell in love with him at the beginning. He was such a sweet guy. I really enjoyed watching him fall for Jessie and learning what it means to fight for the women he loves. I really liked this quote from Derrick’s commander “You’ve got to keep fighting. In war and out, you have to fight for your marriage.” Anything with people is hard and so you have to fight for your relationships.
Jessie was so much like me, I really related to her. She wanted to control her life, but life really can’t be controlled. You can try and plan, but there are always things that are going to sneak up on you. Jessie had to grow and learn that she couldn’t control everything. She learned that maybe it was better to live life, then hide from things that she can’t plan.
Jessie and Derrick really balanced each other out, as they both cared for Jade. She was steady and he was impulsive, he helped her relax and she helped anchor him.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great read. I totally recommend My Little Rock Airman and I can’t wait to see what else Brittany Fichter writes!
