They say forbidden love is the sweetest secret you can keep. The thrill of being in the shadows, the rush that comes with stolen kisses and whispered confessions. But what they don’t talk about are the doubts and deceptions. When you’re constantly lurking in the dark it gets hard to decipher the truths, muddies up a perfect love story and twists it into something vile. Donatello should have been … been my forever but he let his doubts sully what we had, let them cast me to the same shadows we used to find euphoria in. He didn’t want me, so I left; went to college and attempted to forget the taste of his lips with someone new.
Now I’m home for summer break and he wants to rekindle what we had, pretend like he didn’t leave our love to burn out like a forgotten candle. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to taste his forbidden fruit; to let him pull me back into the murky waters of deceit. If he’s expecting me to fall right into his charm though, he has another thing coming; This time around I refuse to be his dirty secret. He will either choose to love me without the shadows or leave me the hell alone.

My Life is an age-gap, forbidden romance between Delaney and Donatello.
The entire story was told from Delaney’s POV, alternating between the past and the present. Delaney and Donatello have a lot of baggage. The summer before she left for college, they started an illicit affair that he wanted to keep secret due to their age difference and his relationship with Delaney’s brother Remy (from My Heart). Of course, he eventually breaks Delaney’s heart. Once she is back home from college for the summer, sparks fly and their chemistry is obvious. They make a deal, despite Delaney knowing he would break her heart all over again. Ultimately, Donatello can’t get his crap together and Delaney is forced to move on from him.
I hate to say it, but I’ve never wanted to punch a hero so badly in my life. Despite Donatello being a total jerk, you could feel his struggle and his love her Delaney. Her love for him was never questionable, even though she tried to move on.
I really loved that Remy and Bev were back in this story as well. Bev and Delaney have a great sisterly friendship, and Remy is definitely one over-protective big brother. If you liked book 1 in the Bloody Business series, My Heart, then you will definitely like this book as well.
oh my gosh! I loved Delaney and Donatello’s story!!! Even though it was absolutely heart wrenching at times.
Lets face it, Donatello was an idiot. Not just once, but twice.
I absolutely loved Remy when he was talking to his sister about true love. Oh and when he admitted to crying everyday over Bev leaving. He is this tough Mafia boss and to hear him like that was enough to melt my heart! In the end, all he wanted was the best for Delaney and not to see her hurt. There is obviously a lot more to Donatello that we don’t yet know as he wouldn’t be so against the relationship for no reason.
Even though their was a significant age gap between them, Donatello and Delaney had such an amazing relationship. I loved their jokes and their banter. But it also broke my heart to see Donatello hurt Delaney by not committing and the fact that no matter what, she cant let him go.
Jessie. Sigh. Now that is a special human right there!!! Seriously!!! How much more amazing can someone be.
I am soooooo happy that Delaney, Donatello and Jessie’s story is not over! Bring on book 3!!!!
I don’t know how many times I wanted to throw my phone while reading this story. Seriously how frustrating is Donatello be. And my heart just broke for Laney. Over and over. The emotional beating your head will take with this book is no joke. It will rip it out and dance a jig on it. But with likes like “Being broken doesn’t mean you can’t be strong; sometimes it helps prove just how strong you actually are.” Hoe can you not love this book. The more I read of Aj Wolf the deeper I fall in love with her work and her characters.
I loved this book to death. But Omggg I wanted to choke Donatello. His ice and cold crap was making me crazy. Sometimes I wanted to kiss him for the beautiful gestures he made for Laney, but the rest of the time I just wanted shake and slap some sense into him! Poor Laney suffered so much because of his crap. But she’s so damn strong, and her sass makes me cheer for her every time. I’m glad things turned out good for them but I’m super nervous because I just read the blurb of the next book! I loved Jessie but I’m team Donatello all the way
After the first book, I was sucked in to this mafia romance series. The second book was such a great story about Delaney and Donatello and of course Jessie. This book was less bloody and there were no killings. But the story was just as great. First, I have to talk about the jokes throughout the story! Omg they were great. I loved them and forced my husband to listen to them and I laughed and laughed. It was just a really cute part of Delaney and Donatello’s relationship. But there was still plenty of angst, and heartbreak, and bad decisions involved. Delaney was ready for all in with Donatello, but him being 11 years older and her brother’s consigliere made that more difficult. Following Delaney through her heartbreaks and discovering Jesise and using him was so relatable. But also, was she really just using him? Does he mean more to her than she thought? Jessie was exactly what she needed for her heartbreak, but no one could cure her except Donatello. Will he let her go completely or discover his feelings too late? It’s very clear that Donatello does love her and care for her? And Delaney will always have feelings for Donatello, but will it all be enough? Will she be able to salvage her relationship with her brother? This book had me laughing, crying, and wanting more! I felt Delaney’s heart being shattered and I felt it heal a teeny bit. I felt the confusion and the push and pull. This book had me feeling so much, it was ridiculous but I absolutely loved it! I can NOT wait for My Girl…but if I’m being g honest, I am team Donatello thank you AJ wolf for this beautiful story that makes me feel so much!
This is the 2nd book in this series and is Donatella and Delaney’s story. Delaney is Remy’s younger sister, while Donatella is his best friend and right-hand man. This story flits between the past and present giving glimpses into their relationship from the beginning. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, heart-breaking, and a toxic and passionate love affair which pulls at the heartstrings. I look forward to reading more form this author whose work I recommend for all.
I really love AJ’s writing and always feel connected to characters. They just do it for me, even when they’re pissing me off, I love them.
This is book 2 in the Bloody Business series and features a forbidden love/age-gap romance between Delaney Luciano and Donatello Genovese. Delaney is the (19) baby sister of Remy (Capo della Famiglia) and Donatello (30) is her brother’s best friend and Consigliere.
This one really tore at my heartstrings…a toxic and passionate love affair between two individuals who may or may not be meant for each other. We see them at their best and at their worse. The “Back to Euphoria” chapters were my favorite, and I really loved seeing the softer, playful side of Donatello.
When things got rough though…well, I wanted to rage at both main characters! Donatello for toying with Delaney and denying himself (and Delaney) happiness for so long. And Delaney for allowing herself to get sucked in by Donatello, again and again! My heart broke for her. So young and in love, falling without knowing if Donatello will be there to catch her.
Their love story isn’t easy (all Donatello’s fault though), but will it be worth it? And will they last?!
After reading the blurb for Book 3…AHHHHHHHHHH! I NEED to know what’s coming next!
