Great storyline with the characters and dealing with the aftermath of PTSD. Wonderful in the caring of explanation of how well therapy can help and the support of someone who loves you, and only wants to see you come out of that fog of guilt and despair
Julie Capulet has written a 5-star book that brings Violet and Caleb together. Violet sees Caleb for the first time when she goes to see Millie. She feels that he needs help after being overseas. There is an instant attraction to each other, but Caleb feels he can’t have her because of his PTSD. They start talking at a party and end up going out on his yacht. The attraction is to hard to fight so they sleep together and after Caleb tells her that he can’t be with her and that he is leaving. Violet tries to stop him but can’t. She leaves and just drives and ends up in an accident. Caleb comes back looking for Violet and Millie tells him she has not seen her. He asks Millie for her keys to their dorm room and he heads there. Before he gets to the dorm, Millie calls him to tell him that Violet is in the hospital. When he gets to the hospital Violet is still mad at him for leaving her the way he did. He tells her that he will not leave her again and he wants a chance to prove it to her.
Will Violet give Caleb the chance he wants or will she walk away from him?
Can Caleb get the help that he needs for his PTSD so he can have a normal life with Violet?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.
I received an ARC of this book for my voluntarily and honest review.
This is the second book that I have read from this author and I loved this story. We get to meet Caleb, Bo’s brother from Hopeless Romantic and Violet, Millie’s friend. Caleb is suffering from PTSD and Violet wants to help him since that is what she is studying in college. The chemistry and attraction between them was instant and intense. Loved every minute of this story. Great storyline and great characters. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I have a soft spot for soldiers so I knew I would love this book. Julie Capulet weaved a beautiful love story for Caleb. My favorite part is the way Violet brings him out of his nightmares.
My Hero is book two in the McCabe Brothers series by Julie Capulet. In the first book, Hopeless Romantic, we met Bo and Millie. Now it’s Bo’s older brother Caleb’s turn and Millie’s best friend, Violet. Caleb was everything I hoped he would be, and more.
Caleb McCabe was injured in the line of duty in Afghanistan. He has just been released from the hospital and is going home. Caleb not only has physical injuries but is also suffering from a trauma you can’t see. He lost his best friends, his brothers in arms. Why were they lost instead of him? The first thing he sees when he enters his home is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Looking at her was like looking at the sun. But he can’t. He is filled with pain and darkness. He can’t even bring himself to speak to her.
“Only his eyes told a different story, hinting at a tip of some vast iceberg of emotion that draws me to Caleb McCabe even more than the beefcake drop dead gorgeousness.”
Violet Jameson is a freshman in college. She’s wanted to be a psychoanalyst since she was seven years old and is beyond excited to finally be starting her dream. She had heard Bo speak of his brother but when he walked into Bo’s house, she was spellbound. His eyes told a story of pain. She knows she can help him. If he’ll let her in.
“There’s no way I’m going to dirty her life with my damages.”
Violet and Caleb share a night of passion. Violet gets a glimpse of the man Caleb used to be. Of a man filled with warmth and love. But then he closes it all off and flees.
“Her presence feels like a cool balm against the raging heat of my torment.”
Caleb both wants to protect Violet by running away from her but at the same time feels so drawn to her that she is all he can think about. He doesn’t want his darkness to shadow her light, but at the same time, he wants her light to help to brighten his darkness.
This is such a beautiful story of a man who has given so much of himself that he’s not sure he can find his way back, or that he wants to. He just hadn’t counted on the healing power of love, or the determination of a woman dedicated to saving him. Julie Capulet has once again written characters that grab my heart and don’t let go. Her books are steamy and sweet, and the heroes are over the moon for the women they love. I can’t get enough. Now I’m looking forward to the oldest of the McCabe brothers, Gage. I wonder if there is a woman out there that can tame him?
LOVED THIS!!! Another insta-lust/love win from Julie Capulet!
The ability of this author to create that connection, that chemistry, that pull between the h/H just amazes me. It’s immediate and it’s powerful.
We met Violet in book one (Hopeless Romantic). The end of that book was the perfect set-up for this book. I could not wait to see how these two worked out.
Caleb…such a beautiful, tortured soul. I couldn’t love him any more if I tried. So broken, so vulnerable…full of so much love to give.
And Violet is the target of that love.
He’s drawn to her.
He can’t get enough of her.
So big and strong and protective and alpha…yet so caring and loving, treating her like she’s the most precious thing ever. She is the calm to his chaos. She’s his reason to want to do better, to BE better.
I love all the feels this book gave me. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It was quick, it was satisfying, it was perfect.
If you’ve read and loved the first book, you’ll definitely want to read this one.
Okay, Ms. Capulet…bring on Gage.
Another great book from Julie Capulet!
I loved Caleb and Violet! Caleb is a broken, yet hot soldier, and Violet is a sheltered freshman in college, studying psychology. When their paths cross their is an instant connection, but Caleb tries to stay away because he is afraid he is too damaged, physically, mentally, and emotionally. How long can Caleb stay away from her, considering his brother is dating Violet’s best friend? Can Violet get close enough to him to try and help him, or are his emotional and mental wounds too deep? Who will save whom? I’m looking forward to Gage’s story, and also going back to read Bo’s story.
Caleb’s Sullen Detachment Combines With Violet’s Happy Radiance, Evoking An Array Of Emotions While Dealing With Deep Issues – War, Death, Suicide, And PTSD.
This novella is book two of The McCabe Brothers series and is Caleb and Violet’s story. It follows Bo and Millie’s story in Hopeless Romantic; Bo and Caleb are brothers, while Millie and Violet are roommates and friends. Both books read perfectly as stand-alones. The McCabe brothers consist of Bo, about twenty-one here, Caleb, twenty-four, and Gage, the eldest brother. Their parents died about five years ago, leaving the boys wealthy but broken, each in their own way. Their father had run a successful investment company and taught his sons the ins and outs of investments when they were still small. He had given them real money to practice with, and today they have done well for themselves.
All brothers have played quarterback at their hometown university in Michigan, student population 40,000. Bo is the empathetic and romantic brother who famously promised his dying mother he would wait for true love. It was love at first sight for him when he saw Millie on the Jumbotron at the season opener for his senior year just one month ago. Caleb is the stormy but honorable brother who dealt with his parents’ death by going into service following college. Gage is the ruthless cynic and playboy. He returned to Chicago, from which the family moved twenty years ago, and made a name for himself as a the CEO of his own company.
In My Hero, Caleb John McCabe, twenty-four, returns from a year in Afghanistan haunted by the memory of the three men he lost. His best friend Logan’s voice especially weighs on him because he placed the blame for Logan’s death squarely on his own shoulders. As Corporal McCabe and Scout Sniper, he should never have hesitated when he saw the glimmer in the upper window. But he did. And now Logan was gone. The shrapnel wounds that put him in hospital for a month and sent him home weren’t punishment enough for his failure.
Violet Aurora Jameson, eighteen, has enjoyed her first month of freedom as a college freshman. Away from her three overprotective older brothers, she is finally free to date, and although she hasn’t yet, she is excited about the possibility of finally getting her first kiss. Meanwhile, the fun-loving party girl is happy to study and hang with her roommate Millie. Although Millie hasn’t exactly been living in their room – she had to go and fall madly in love with the star quarterback on the first day of school and stay with him in his big empty mansion. When alone in her dorm and in class, Violet’s inner psych nerd dominates – she can’t wait to achieve her goal of becoming a licensed psychotherapist. She had loads of practice working with her three older brothers as she grew up.
When Caleb returns home he wants nothing but to be left alone – stimulation overload is a problem for him. He doesn’t expect to find two strange bikini-clad women lounging by the pool. He wants to get away, but for just one minute he is frozen by an ethereal beauty with copper hair. For that minute, nothing else matters. When Violet sees Bo’s brother walk in, she feels drawn to him. His eyes speak with the emotion that his words don’t convey. She wants to help him. Needs to help before it is too late. But he hurries away, leaving bereft.
Caleb and Violet’s angsty love story is dark and stormy as well as touching and heartbreaking. They’ve both been touched deeply by death. Grieved and guilt-ridden, Caleb struggles to process his loss as he suffers from PTSD. Violet finds purpose in helping others. With Caleb, she sees an opportunity to succeed where she once failed. The couple faces tremendous obstacles, but the myriad of experiences that they face in just a few short days force them past anything resembling a normal timeline. They forge an unbreakable bond that gives direction and purpose to Caleb and leads the couple to a well-earned HEA. Although this is a novella, the three epilogues provide a huge window into the future, ending with a very satisfying finish.
Caleb and Violet’s story is a very quick read. The story is nicely written, although there is some repetition. The plot is complex considering the length. It deals with deep issues – war, death, suicide, PTSD – while evoking an array of emotions. The characters are well-defined. In this book, a much broader look at the McCabe family is provided. Bo and Millie have minor roles, and Gabe is introduced. The book is written in the first person. The POV alternates between Caleb and Violet. I rate this book four stars.
I received a free advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Caleb has just returned home from Afghanistan. He is wounded in more ways than one. Violet is studying to be a psychoanalyst when she meets Caleb. She knows he is suffering from PTSD and wants to help but there is a physical connection that will not be denied.
I loved the characters and the tie in from the first book. The story line is great as well. Looking forward to reading Gage’s story.

Violet, a freshman in college has been sheltered all her life from guys, thanks to her overprotective brothers. When she meets Caleb, a returning serviceman, she falls hard and fast for him. What she doesn’t know is that Caleb is troubled and things between them might not go as smoothly as she hoped.
MY HERO is incredibly well written and Caleb is one swoon worthy hero. The story is hot and sweet and an easy read. Highly recommended
Though it’s short but it’s a wonderful story of love between a therapist in making Violet and a war hero returnee Caleb McCabe.
Juliet’s books are always easy to read and a page turner, it keeps you at the edge of your seat.
Lovely
Despite being a very short read, Julie Capulet gives her readers a very touching story. If you’ve read the first book in this series, HOPELESS ROMANTIC, you’ve met Violet. Despite being a secondary character in that first story, she was quite memorable. From the moment Violet and Caleb meet in this second book, you have to believe in destiny. This story gives you two young adults who’ve already lost so much in their lives to tragedy. You can’t help but love Violet and hope that Caleb can heal from his emotional trauma. Both characters are very well drawn. The author takes you along on her characters’ journey to their HEA with humor, angst and heat. Both books can be read as a stand alone too. Highly recommend. 🙂
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Julie Capulet is a newer author to me discovered through friend. I’m very happy that I took the chance on her. I’m looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.
Mind you even though Violet Jameson has dreamed of studying for a degree in psychology for as long as she can remember & she want be a licensed psychotherapist by the time she twenty-seven. Doesn’t mean that she not outgoing, fun-loving party girl. But when it comes to the study of psychology, she a total nerd!
Caleb McCabe returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan & he suffering from PTSD.
Caleb is listed as one of the best snipers the military had, but that means nothing to Caleb, cuz his skill didn’t safe his three closest friends
As you can imagine all Caleb want to do is crawl into bed & sleep for week! And trust me that’s what he pretty much does
Once Caleb emerges from his slumber all he wants do is see that girl with the copper-and-golden-haired & those O so cute freckles,
Absolutely loved it.
I love the style of writing. I enjoyed the story and the insta love going on between Caleb and Violet. I love their chemistry, the heat and their hot sex scenes too. I can’t get enough. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series which I assume will be the last brother.
