Mackinac Island is a beautiful place and the Grand Hotel is an unmistakable iconic landmark. With a breathtaking view of the lake and gardens, and its opulence, it attracts the wealthy. Maude Welling’s family are residents of the island who own a small hotel. It has always been her desire to become the manager, but at what cost? Betrayal, love, secrets galore, and colorful characters make this book a great historical romance. It is a stand alone book, but is part of the My Heart Belongs to series.
Written by one of my favorite authors, this beautiful romance is set on Mackinac Island and features very memorable characters who will stay with you long after you breathe that satisfied sigh at the end. Beautiful and poignant writing by a student of human behavior, this is a true gem and worthy of its award winning status.
I loved this story and characters especially Maude the heroine and Ben the hero. Fun story with a bit of fun intrigue. Tons of secrets to be revealed and many other fun things and not one but two great romances that make this an awesome story and by a new to me author. The secondary characters were fascinating especially Maude’s little brother Jack. I highly recommend this story.
Take a look back in time at the summer resort of Mackinac Island. There are many perspective hunters for wealthy mates staying there. Plus 3 different romantic stories and an aspiring child who loves to run.
Well worth the time to read this wholesome clean Christian story.
First time reading this author. Loved the locale.
Quick read, fun to know the island locations from real life.
Carrie’s books take you back in time and makes you feel like your right there with them. Love reading her books and a Dear friend of mine.
My Heart Belongs on Mackinac Island: Maude’s Mooring (My Heart Belongs)
by Carrie Fancett Pagels
1895…Mackinac Island, Michigan…Maude Welling just cannot understand why her father is so adamant about her not managing Winds of Mackinac Inn without a husband. Well, she has to do something to prove to him she is capable of running it without a husband. Thus she comes up with a plan, albeit a risky one at best.
Journalist Ben Steffans—or rather Friedrich Konig—is on an undercover assignment as a wealthy industrialist staying at the infamous Grand Hotel pursing a story about impoverished men chasing women of financial means and heiresses—and maybe a promotion when finished…and finds himself intrigued by an attractive maid.
Circumstances and mishaps bring Ben and Maude together and they form a fragile, tender friendship. As Ben digs deeper into his story he uncovers scandals and secrets that could unravel the fragile love growing. A story filled with mystery and intrigue, joys and sorrows, love and faith. I love Maude and Ben…and Jack is a precious little boy full of energy! There are characters that I was not sure I would like at first but later in the story I changed my mind about them. The authors’ description of the Island has me wanting to take a trip and visit and maybe stay for a long while. I would stay at the Winds of Mackinac Inn and maybe get Jack to slow down a bit and take me on a tour. Wonderful, heartwarming story.
Oh my goodness! I felt like I was walking down the streets on Mackinac Island, smelling the horses, dodging the bikes as I took in the incredible views! Our heroine, Maude, is a determined, hardworking young lady who is hoping to take over the running of the Winds of Mackinac, an Inn that has been in her mother’s family for generations. However, there seems to be some misunderstanding about that….
An unrequited love, a newspaper reporter traveling incognito and housekeeping at the Grand Hotel are just some of the story lines woven together in masterful fashion by author, Carrie Fancet Pagels, who has outdone herself yet again.
I absolutely loved this book! This is by far my favorite book by author Carrie Fancett Pagels, and I’ve read them all.
The intrigue of the secret identities, the neighborly, family-like love between the islanders and how they look out for each other, the impish little brother Jack, Maude, and the stranger who has unwittingly captured her heart. All come together to create one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
Maude is more upset than heartbroken, that her supposed fiance’ has come home a married man because her father will not let her run the family inn without a husband. She has to prove to him that she can do it on her own. She must keep him from selling The Winds of Mackinac Inn that has been part of her mother’s family for generations, it is her home, it is where her heart belongs.
The book is fast paced, filled with mystery and secrets that abound at every turn. The romance is heartwarming and real. I won’t give spoilers in a review. I will highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Historical Christian fiction. I loved this look at life on Mackinac Island in the late 1890’s.
This is a delightful historical romance!
I fell in love with the characters in this book quickly because they are amazingly well developed. There is an incredible variety of personalities which made the whole story come alive.
There were a number of people that at times were pretending to people that they weren’t. Some of them were shown for what they really were from the very beginning. Some of them were kept as a mild mystery for much of the book. It was a lot to fun to try and figure who was really who. I was enthralled to see how the relationships between many of the different characters would develop.
