A revelatory and touching tribute to the lives of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds written by the person who knew them best, Todd Fisher’s poignant memoir is filled with moving stories of growing up among Hollywood royalty and illustrated with never-before-seen photos and memorabilia. In December 2016, the world was shaken by the sudden deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds, two … Reynolds, two unspeakable losses that occurred in less than twenty-four hours. The stunned public turned for solace to Debbie’s only remaining child, Todd Fisher, who somehow retained his grace and composure under the glare of the media spotlight as he struggled with his own overwhelming grief.
The son of “America’s Sweethearts” Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Todd grew up amid the glamorous wealth and pretense of Hollywood. Thanks to his funny, loving, no-nonsense mother, Todd remained down to earth, his own man, but always close to his cherished mom, and to his sister through her meteoric rise to stardom and her struggle with demons that never diminished her humor, talent, or spirit.
Now, Todd shares his heart and his memories of Debbie and Carrie with deeply personal stories from his earliest years to those last unfathomable days. His book, part memoir, part homage, celebrates their legacies through a more intimate, poignant, and often hilarious portrait of these two remarkable women than has ever been revealed before.
With thirty-two pages of never-before-seen photos and memorabilia from his family’s private archives, Todd’s book is a love letter to a sister and a mother, and a gift to countless fans who are mourning the deaths of these two unforgettable stars.

great incite from a loving son and brother
The amazing lives of a family with so much triumph over hardship. Very entertaining, but what a roller coaster ride toward the wild ending. A little bipolar…
Great insight into the lives of Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. The tragedy and love that the family experienced as told by the son and brother that loved them. Great read if you were a fan.
I did not care for this at all.
How these people reinvented themselves is wonderful and Debby Reynolds was the leader in showing her family how is it done with style and grace.
We thought we knew everything there was to know about Debby and Carrie. Not so fast, bunky. This story told from Todd Fishers unique perspective enriched my fondness for both ladies. I must admit how tickled I was to learn that the “commando skirt twirling” incident in Postcards From The Edge was true!
I liked it a lot! Very enlightening from a close family member.
Good book. More insight into the family dynamics. Enjoyable
It was an interesting read. Would like to have had more information on her interaction with other movie and recording stars in her life time. But I understand it was more about her and Carrie.
This is a wonderful look at a wonderful family in the movie business. Getting to know two wonderful ladies though the eyes of the son/brother in their lives.
Todd Fisher tells his family’s story with love and honesty even when the facts aren’t pretty. Debbie Reynolds and her children, Carrie and Todd Fisher are the main characters but there are so many more. Many family members, spouses and friends make this a fascinating tale of Hollywood royalty.
Todd Fisher writes with compassion, humor, and love about his mother and sister, but also about other people in his life and life itself. Even when speaking of those who deserved his disfavor, he first points out the positive aspects of their being. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and came away with great respect for Debbie Fisher and her strength and perseverance in the face of adversity.
It’s good to know that some actors are real people too. Very well written
I couldn’t put this down. One thing after another after another, and Todd captured it all. I finished the book today, and my thoughts are “I had no idea.” Fascinating look at someones life. So glad he shared, thank you Todd!
If you’ve loved Debbie Reynolds, this is an inside look at her life – not so much Carrie Fisher’s.
The book seemed to be as much about Todd as Debbie and Carrie. It brought home the message, time and again, that we have to take responsibility for our lives and the decisions we make. Debbie and Carrie created their own problems by not controlling their actions and they paid dearly for them. I loved Debbie as an entertainer and saw her in person at her casino in Las Vegas as well as on stage in the Unsinkable Molly Brown; she was witty and talented and knew how to please an audience.
I enjoyed this book.
Very interesting – seems family went from one problem to another with Todd always to the rescue. Enjoyed reading it – sometimes hard to follow as went from USA to England, etc.
It was interesting to read that a celebrity doesn’t always have an easy life. Debbie Reynolds and her children had some really good times, and some really tough times as well. Ms. Reynolds persistance in holding onto the old movie memorabilia
was inspiring, though in the long run, not practical. Though the ending of the story is not happy-ever-after, it is comforting.
Love the family photos!
