Dustin leads a quiet life with only his dog Rex for company, and that’s exactly how he prefers it. However, a new tenant arrives. A pretty young woman with a sweet smile and a polite demeanor moves to the apartment across the hall. She piques his curiosity, but he is discouraged by her obvious disinterest in getting to know her neighbors. Then, one night, she finds herself in an unexpected fix, … fix, and Dustin helps her out. Rex comes on the scene, helping them to connect and develop a gentle and trusting relationship, and Dustin discovers that his cautious neighbor is nothing like he expected. Short and Sweet
This is another book by this author that could be considered to be either a long short story or a very short novella. I wasn’t wild about the previous one I read, but this was okay. Nothing stellar, but a sweet romance between two shy, decent, but socially awkward people that could be read over a long lunch. They live next door to each other in the same apartment building but don’t really interact much until he finds her sitting in front of her door one night. Because of problems with her door, she ends up warily spending the evening on his couch. They have a pleasant evening, but nothing much else happens between them for a while. To say this is a slow burn is an understatement. I won’t tell you the rest of the story, but it does end on an HFN. Because the story is so short, there really isn’t much time for any sort of character development or even really a romance arc. There is a cute dog, however.
I loved this story. It is the kind that you can identify with the characters and immerse yourself in the story. Very well written and characters to win the heart make this book a must read.
This is an entertaining short story of two shy neighbors, an event that has them to speak to one another and how their mutual attraction and chemistry bring them closer together. I enjoyed reading Dustin and Lily’s story but felt a little more background on their pasts would have completed the story more for me. Of course, it is always awesome when there is a pet involved that adds to the mix, I loved Rex. Enjoy!

A young man lives his quiet live with his dog. One day he has a new neighbor and he is intrigued, but too shy to talk to her. When her key breaks and she is effectively locked out of her apartment on a Saturday night, he offers her a place to stay.
A sweet story of two lonely people coming together and finding strength in that companionship.
An engaging short read, entertaining and well-written.
