New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant rounds up the hottest cowboys in Texas in her latest novel of no-holds-barred passion. Audrey Martinez is a veterinarian who has devoted her whole life to the care and protection of horses–even if doing so leaves her little time for meeting a man. Who would have thought that a strange case of criminal horseplay would lead her to falling deeply, … lead her to falling deeply, wildly in love? If only the man who makes her heart race faster than a wild mustang would let his guard down, that is. . .
Caleb Harper is no ordinary cowboy. Sure, he wears his hat, boots, and jeans like a second skin, and displays an easygoing charm that comes from years of working on the ranch. But with his military background, and Army buddies at his side, he is tried-and-true Texas tough. Audrey knows she can trust a man like Caleb to help her save horses. But can Caleb trust himself to resist his attraction to Audrey–or will the sparks of their desire end up getting them burned?
“A fantastic, first-class Lone Star romance.”

Audrey and Caleb’s suspenseful love story in My Favorite Cowboy by Donna Grant, book three in her Heart of Texas series, was truly enjoyable. Equine veterinarian Audrey spent her life devoted to the care and protection of horses, leaving her no time for meeting a man. She was a commitment-phobe, never allowing any relationship to form, let alone last. Caleb might look like a cowboy and act like a cowboy but his military training has made him one tough Texan. When horses are suddenly being poisoned and Audrey becomes a suspect, Caleb knows she needs protection and help finding the person out to get Audrey. Audrey and Caleb have an out of this world connection; with sparks singing those in their path. Audrey and Caleb have walls surrounding their hearts, not trusting very easily. These two come across as unloved as well as unable to love, anyone they are not related to by blood. As can happen, two battered hearts not only can find comfort with each other but also heal within each other’s arms.
Ms. Grant wrote an amazing, steamy, suspenseful and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, amusing banter, scary situations, and endearing characters, giving Audrey and Caleb a chance at having a true love. I highly recommend My Favorite Cowboy to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
My Favorite Cowboy is a combination of romance and suspense, and I have to say that I enjoyed the suspense more than the instalove cowboy romance – at least until the rather rushed conclusion and caricature-like villain. Instalove aside, the romance isn’t bad, it’s just that there’s really nothing new here. It runs the typical cowboy romance formula with no real surprises. I will add that I feel like I would’ve enjoyed it more had the relationship developed more naturally instead of moving at such a rapid-fire pace. So, for me, the story wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either, leaving me somewhere in the middle of road. This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.
It was super easy to fall for Caleb, Audrey and this engaging romance. I thought the plot was very enjoyable. It had a entertaining blend of romance, drama, powerful emotions and mystery. To me it was a bit of a slow burn romance but there is no denying the chemistry simmering underneath each and every one of these character’s interactions. I liked it.
This is a sweetly thrilling, heartwarming and very real romantic journey that is both engaging and emotional…. really enjoyed this small town romance with so much heart and filled with so many interesting charters. Great read!
So I I don’t know where to start with this book. The two main characters are running from themselves, from feelings and from commitment and anything revolving a relationship. The author packed so much emotion, and chemistry into this book is was jumping off the pages. The story really gets to the heart of matter, while it also has you on the edge of you seat wondering what is going to happen next, from one page to the next. I really enjoyed the importance of “family” in this book and how sometimes family is what you make of it. I so so am hoping that Maddy’s story is coming, her free spirit really shined in this story even though her part was small. This book was so good and I really can’t wait to read more from this author. There is some adult language and situations in this book so it may not be suitable for all readers. Over all this book is so worth the read.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
This is another fantastic book in the Heart of TX series. Each of these books can be read standalone. They are all wonderfully written with characters that are intriguing and well developed. In this one we have the story of former Green Beret now rancher Caleb Harper and equine vet Audrey Martinez. There is a nice blend of romance and suspense as Caleb and Audrey team up to uncover who is behind the mysterious goings on at a local ranch. They dance around each other for a while but in the end the attraction between them can’t be denied.
I highly recommend this one.
My Favorite Cowboy by Donna Grant is book Three in the Heart of Texas Series. This is the story of Caleb Harper and Audrey Martinez. I have read the previous books, but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Caleb and Audrey are brought together when some horses are being poisoned and they are out to find out who and why. Both have parental issue that have set them on a course of all business and quick encounters but can these two find themselves too when looking into the mystery with the horses? Who doesn’t love a good cowboy romance and the author being Ms. Grant it just a win / win situation….loved it.
My first Donna Grant read and I’ve got to say I enjoyed myself.
I really liked how their relationship progressed. The clearly both have issues that run deep and that caused some problems but it was such a pleasure to see them working through it in order to be happy together. I liked the chemistry between the main MC’s. But what I loved the most about this story was it’s action packed drama that I’m not used to seeing when reading about cowboys.
I definitely need to find time to read book 1&2 ASAP.

This is the third book in the series & the third & youngest Harper sibling Caleb has his story. It could be read on its own but as always with series I have to read them in order & this is a good series about the Harpers, they’ve all had issues about being abandoned & Abby had to raise her two younger brothers. Caleb doesn’t want to be involved with anyone but he’s thrown together with Audrey over a mystery surrounding horses being harmed. I particularly liked the mix of mystery & romance. I also liked that the book brought closure to the series. The characters were well portrayed. I liked both Caleb & Audrey.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Compelling suspense story with a great romance. Audrey has worked hard to be one of the best equine vets and when she is called in to help some sick horses, she is puzzled as to what the problem is. This begins the journey into this mystery. Caleb loves horses and has worked hard with his brother to build their own ranch. He doesn’t do relationships, suffering from abandonment issues. When he meets Audrey, he is drawn to her passion and compassion she has for horses. As they both become involved in the mystery surrounding the horses, they find that they have several things in common. Audrey has struggled with relationships, always putting her work first. Will these two lonely hearts find a path to love together? I was pulled into this love story and really enjoyed the underlying mystery that surprised me with its twists and turns. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Caleb’s story has arrived! Donna Grant does it again – this book is just as fantastic as the other two siblings’ books. The first book of the series, The Christmas Cowboy Hero, tells big sister, Abby’s, story; the second book of the series, Cowboy, Cross My Heart, tells the middle child, Brice’s, story and then here in book three, My Favorite Cowboy, tells the youngest sibling, Caleb’s story. Each book holds a good deal of emotional turmoil, drama, suspense and romance as each of the siblings work to overcome their deep-rooted childhood abandonment issues and the emotional repercussions that progressed all the way into their adult lives with relationships. The three are extremely close and help each other through everything, as well as their close friends Jace and Cooper; who are actually more like brothers than just friends. It would be awesome to see each of them have their own story, as well. Also, Audrey’s younger sister, Maddy; it would be great to see her have a happy ending too. There is a great amount of suspense and mystery in this read surrounding Audrey and what is happening to the horses, as well as emotional conflict and reflection for Audrey and Caleb due to their pasts and including finding answers in relation to the horses and protection for Audrey. The two have a lot to deal with and sort out before they can even sort through their feeling for each other and a possible future. There are also a few surprises thrown into the mix, happy and sad, that adds to the complexity of the storyline. All the characters are strong, likeable and relatable and the plot is engaging, making the book hard to put down. Grant definitely pulls out all the stops on this one for emotional drama ‘cause it will grab hold until the end. You can tell from the first meeting that Caleb and Audrey are immediately drawn to each other and the more they connect you can tell they belong together, but there are several obstacles that have to be overcome first, professionally and personally, in order for that to occur. They both have issues to resolve within themselves and need to let go of the past in order to make way for a promising future. Mistakes are made, misunderstandings occur and communication halts, but what would a good cowboy romance be without the conflict and emotional journey to a happy ending? Each of the three books in the Heart of Texas series can be read as standalone but would be much better read in order to enjoy the entire family dynamics and overlapping storyline in the background catching up with the other characters in the book. There is also a nice short epilogue that jumps six months ahead to give a glimpse into their future. My Favorite Cowboy was a great read and addition to the series. *I received an advanced copy thru Netgalley and am providing my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My Favorite Cowboy (Heart of Texas #3) by Donna Grant …..If you love a fast paced romance with a mystery and danger thrown in ..this is the book for you. It is the 3rd book in the HEART OF TEXAS series but can be read as a stand alone. Thanks so much to the publisher and #NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book. Audrey Martinez (Veterinarian who loves horses) Caleb Harper (Cowboy who trains horses) We also get to touch base with Clayton and Abby and Naomi and Brice. Something is happening to the horses at the auction house…There is plenty of action, mystery and evil intent, laughter, tears, some personal hangups and steamy sex all leading to a very HEA. I hated for this book to end.
This is a standalone, even though other characters appear from earlier in the series. I have book 1, but still to read, and I DID read book 2. I didn’t enjoy this plot as much as the 2nd book. I think the mystery element is good, but at the end it was just ok for me. I also had a hard time connecting with the two main characters, maybe bc of the insta-lust/love. I don’t know, something was just missing for me. I still look forward to reading more of Donna’s work from my TBR pile.
I enjoyed this story and even if it’s the third book in this series it can absolutely be read as a standalone.
The storyline is building up nicely, maybe a little abrupt ending but the prologue made it better.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and good dialogues.
I love the world the author is creating with family connection and all the love they show each other.
The chemistry between the main characters is sizzling from the beginning.
I would love to read the other books in this series, so you can start with the first if you like to read chronological or else you can just read this one. Either way I recommend it, 5 stars.
I really, really enjoyed this book. It is a cowboy romantic suspense. This is the story of Audrey, a veterinarian, and Caleb, a former military guy turned rancher. Ms. Grant pulled me in from the start with the mystery of what was wrong with the horses Audrey was providing care for and finished me off with the romance between her and Caleb.
Not only were Audrey and Caleb’s characters easy to get into, but the secondary characters were as well. We already met Caleb’s brother and sister in previous books and the interesting family dynamics continue. Audrey’s sister also played a part and was a real dynamo.
The story contained family, suspense, romance, danger and emotional and physical trauma as well. Caleb’s mother had walked out on the family when he was quite small. It scarred him for life and left him determined that love was never going to be something that would hit him again. His feelings for Audrey might interfere with that. Can he turn his life around enough that he stops running every woman off–including Audrey?
This was a very good, fast paced book that held my interest from start to finish!
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
This story is very entertaining. I really liked the mystery of it. Wondering who the bad guy was and how the main characters would solve everything. Pretty hot too when Audrey finally gives in to Caleb, or should I say the other way around? Although I do have to say that i’m very disappointed Caleb never used that window for more than the view LOL. Caleb and Audrey are very in zinc with each other and that surprises him immensely since he has no desire to get close to any woman. Trust issues and all. But it seems he has no choice. And he couldn’t have picked a better woman because she has a heart of gold and she is strong and brave. That’s another thing I like about this book, the heroin is not defenseless. And with the help of her sister she learns to ask for help at the right time and to the right people. Because Caleb’s family is a godsend, just like himself. Audrey will be glad to be part of the pack. You will enjoy all pages of this book while these characters figure out everything between crimes, feelings, family issues and more.
My Favorite Cowboy was, sadly, not my favorite of Donna Grant’s cowboys. This one puts Caleb, the king of one-night stands, together with veterinarian Audrey, the only lady in the county looking for Mr. Right Now, which should be a temporary match made in heaven. Add in all the drama surrounding the mystery of someone harming horses that has Caleb and Audrey involved up to their necks, and we have the potential for an exciting, captivating read.
The drama and suspense were done well and definitely kept my attention. Had that been the only conflict, I would have been thrilled with the story. Even the underlying issues of loss, abandonment and feeling unworthy of love served to endear the main characters to me and elicit sympathy. The story dragged for me with too much character introspection, and I found myself skipping paragraphs of both this, as well as some of the intimate scenes that had little spark or flow. In spite of that, this would still have been a good read, but the main characters both being stricken with abject stupidity, not once, but twice, and keeping them apart for half of the story’s timeline of two weeks, was something I couldn’t get past.
I really liked both of the characters’ complexity and flaws, and I adored the secondary characters. I also appreciate the way Grant gave both Caleb and Audrey closure with their issues, allowing them to let go of the past and move forward. If you’ve never read this author’s cowboy romances, I suggest starting with one of the other books in the series, but if you’re already a Grant fan, you’ll probably enjoy this one.

My Favorite Cowboy is the 3rd book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. Veterinarian Audrey Martinez has been called in by her father’s dear friend David Warner, owner of the auction house, when several of the horses become suddenly ill. It appears they have been poisoned, but the how and the why of the random attack is mind boggling. David also brings in rancher Clayton East and his brothers-in-law, Caleb and Brice Harper, to repair his camera system. When they realize the threat, they also stay on board at the auction house alongside Audrey and her sister, Maddy, to watch over the horses. When another attack occurs and a vial of liquid is dropped in Audrey’s bag and one of the perpetrators appears to have been wounded, the group pulls closer together.
When Maddy is attacked back at the Martinez home while Audrey is still tending to the horses, and Audrey’s office is trashed, it leads the group to wonder if it is Audrey that is the target rather than David and, if so, why? Maddy spends time healing at the East Ranch for her protection. Audrey stays watched over by former army ranger Caleb Harper. But the feelings of protection become enhanced and the two that least sought relationships become an explosive combination.
As the story unfolds, and more crimes come to light, Audrey becomes a suspect in the crimes. In an unusual plot to catch a criminal, the sheriff works with the Harper and East factions to set a trap. With Audrey as the unwitting bait, the others are there to ensure her safety.
This is a well written story with characters of depth that twists and turns to a heart racing conclusion. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
3.5 stars
My Favorite Cowboy is more than meets the eye. This romantic suspense novel was definitely more than I originally thought. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover and this book is proof. I thought I was going to read a fluffy romance but My Favorite Cowboy was better than that.
Former military, this cowboy has more than a worn pair of jeans on his side. But what a backside! Two lost souls not even knowing what they were missing. Tragedy brings them together, only to have their insecurities rip them apart.
MY FAVORITE COWBOY By Donna Grant
This is such a good page turner of a story and it is the 3rd book of the Heart of Texas series, it can be read as a stand alone book. I couldn’t put it down once I started it. It is the story of Caleb Harper, a horse rancher and Audrey Martinez the local equine vet. Both have issues they have to deal with and overcome. They meet when some horses at the auction house that were previously fine suddenly become very ill without a reason for it. They are trying to get to the bottom of what is happening. This has suspense, romance, heat, angst and characters from past books. I give this story 4 stars.
