New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant rounds up the hottest cowboys in Texas in her latest novel of no-holds-barred passion. Audrey Martinez is a veterinarian who has devoted her whole life to the care and protection of horses–even if doing so leaves her little time for meeting a man. Who would have thought that a strange case of criminal horseplay would lead her to falling deeply, … lead her to falling deeply, wildly in love? If only the man who makes her heart race faster than a wild mustang would let his guard down, that is. . .
Caleb Harper is no ordinary cowboy. Sure, he wears his hat, boots, and jeans like a second skin, and displays an easygoing charm that comes from years of working on the ranch. But with his military background, and Army buddies at his side, he is tried-and-true Texas tough. Audrey knows she can trust a man like Caleb to help her save horses. But can Caleb trust himself to resist his attraction to Audrey–or will the sparks of their desire end up getting them burned?
“A fantastic, first-class Lone Star romance.”

No matter what genre Donna Grant writes, she’s sure to make you fall in love with her stories and charactes. My Favorite Cowboy is another hit for Ms Grant and I can’t wait for the next installment.
This romance has readers making Caleb their favorite cowboy and Audrey into their favorite veterinarian as they read this stunning and gritty romance. Audrey and Caleb are strong, captivating characters that easily draw readers to them as they navigate their somewhat rocky relationship. Audrey has little time for meeting a man and ends up being a little relationship forming stunted and Caleb is a strong, charming cowboy that has some past issues mucking up his relationship forming abilities, this keeps the romance part of the story quite turbulent and emotionally gripping while they navigate all the ups and downs that stems from their issues. All though they do have the help of wonderful, close-knit family members throughout the story which adds to the depth of the story.
The story is steady paced and flows smoothly from beginning to end with thrilling suspense as Audrey and Caleb try to not only save some horses but discover just who would want to hurt them. Dangerous and deadly events adds excitement and gets the readers pulses pounding while some surprising twists keeps everyone on their toes. The emotional issues that faces the characters are gripping and ‘real’ which really makes it easy for readers to not only connect with the characters but also makes it easy for them to picture the story as it takes place.
4 star
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, struggles, and heartbreak.
This is Audrey and Caleb’s story. Caleb is a cowboy but he is also army tough. He works on his ranch with his former army buddies at his side. Audrey is a veterinarian whose life has been about caring and protecting horses. But when she is involved in a case about criminal horseplay she needs help. Caleb is willing to help but not willing to drop his guard and get involved with Audrey. The chemistry is there but he is fighting it. Can she ever get him to drop his guard or will he resist the attraction and push her as fall away as he can?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
My Favorite Cowboy is about Caleb Harper (third member of the Harper family) and Audrey Martinez. It had a good story/bit of intrigue to it and it kept me reading pretty much straight thru until I had finished the book. Not only do we get to spend time with the Harper family, et al, but we also get to actually feel the pull from Caleb’s other family, his army buddies. They are a trip – needling and pushing Caleb – but they are right by his side when he needs to protect Audrey. What they don’t do, however, is help him protect his heart. And his family is right there with ‘em.
Audrey is a veterinarian who is passionate about treating horses and how they are cared for. Besides her practice, she volunteers to help abused and/or rescues. In My Favorite Cowboy, someone is targeting her “patients” – SO not cool with her. She and Caleb team up to not only protect the horses, but in life as well, much to their own (personal) chagrin(s).
The relationship part of their story is hawt and the building of trust and love between them is touching and is a great read. I liked this book. As I read My Favorite Cowboy, I remembered that I had already read the first two books in this series however in book-reading time, it was long ago. I can tell you that MFC can be read as a standalone but I was happy that I could go back and re-read about the family in the first two books because they were on my shelf. The Harper family has had its struggles however they are a very strong family unit…it’s just that they each get their turn to realize it. I recommend. I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
Audrey is an equine vet and one of the most sought after in her county. She works with mainly two ranches but helps a rescue when she has time. Her dad’s friend calls her because some of the horses are getting sick. Caleb is former Green Beret and owns a ranch with his brother. He has abandonment issues and never sticks with one woman.
When Audrey figures out the horses are being poisoned, she and her sister Maddy, try to find out what kind. Caleb and some ranchers stay and help protect the women and horses. But it’s not really the horses they are trying to hurt, it’s Audrey and they want to ruin her career. Both have commitment issues but maybe together they can find happiness together, if they both don’t screw up.
Loved this story it has sex, hunky cowboys, action, and mystery. This is the third in this series and Ms. Grant leaves you anticipating the next book. Can be read as a stand-alone.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
Heart of Texas #3, this can be read as a standalone, but honestly the whole series so far is awesome. The youngest Harper boy Caleb, who swore he’d never fall in love and planned to be alone all his life, meet his match. Audrey Martinez dedicated herself to her work and it shows she is one of the best equine vets in the county, he love life not as important to her as saving and taking care of horses. Both Caleb and Audrey are the love ’em and leave them type but as soon as they met each other they are both not so sure they want to leave the other. But first they have a mystery to solve.
Someone poisoned four horses at the auction house. Audrey was called in as a favor to look after the horses. Caleb and Brice just happened to be at the right place at the right time to help. Using their military background and the help of Clayton, Jace and Cooper they stake out the area incase the person responsible comes back to attempt to poison more horses. Audrey stays up with the horses keeping tabs on them. Sure enough the culprits come back but they let a bunch of horses lose to avoid capture. It seems one of the things they are trying to do is stop Audrey from identifying the poison they smash up her lab, and even blow up a dead horse to prevent her from doing so. Caleb and his brothers are going to protect Audrey and her sister until they find out who is behind the whole thing and who they are out to ruin.
Caleb and Audrey pretty much have insta-lust. No matter how deep they get or how quickly they fell in love they are both hesitant to admit anything because they both have their issues they need to sort out. Audrey was always so focused on her career she never really made time for anyone else but her sister, and when her mother died and she watched how her father became so emotionally vacant a part of her walled up her heart to protect herself from the same. Abby and Brice always thought that their mother abandoning them didn’t effect Caleb that much because he was so young but Caleb was traumatized the worst. Caleb never wanted to trust someone enough to give them his heart for fear of his love not being enough to keep them so he refused to let himself fall in love. Audrey and Caleb spent so much time walking away from people they ended up walking straight toward each other, but will they both be brave enough to love each other.
Overall, I loved this. I loved the emotional depth for both Caleb and Audrey it made them seem very real to me. I really loved the mystery and the suspense it made for a very exciting read. Donna Grant is awesome at what she does I love this series and I am not ready for it to end I can’t wait for Jace and Cooper to get their own HEAs.
I’m a big fan of Donna Grant’s paranormal romances, but I believe this may be the first contemporary romance I’ve read of hers. This one was definitely a good one with which to start. Mix together a very intelligent heroine, a hot protective cowboy, suspense and steamy loving, and you have the perfect recipe for an exciting romance!
Audrey was an excellent equine veterinarian who was in great demand. Her friend David’s horses were dying, and she was doing everything she could do to save them, while also working two jobs and helping with rescues. Caleb’s family was also friends with David, and they were fixing his security cameras to see if someone was deliberately making the horses sick. When it appeared that Audrey was in danger, our protective cowboy was there to help. Sparks flew (both literally and figuratively).
The chemistry between the leads was very steamy; it was also rather complicated. Audrey’s parents were deeply in love and when her mother died, her father was devastated and took off. Caleb’s mother just walked out on her children, leaving his sister to raise her two young brothers. Caleb has never forgiven his mother for abandoning them. These circumstances led to both Audrey and Caleb always leaving a relationship before things could get serious. Could things be different for the two of them together? Besides our two leads, Audrey’s sister and Caleb’s siblings were great examples of familial love. I must go back and read the previous books in this series; I’ll be thrilled if they are as good as this one!
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
From a strong sense of family that helped heal broken pasts through danger, jealousy, to a very emotional ending, I loved this story, and it kept me turning pages. Audrey was focused, smart, and independent. Caleb was kind, protective, and wised up to the fact that he was not alone when dealing with his past. Together, Audrey and Caleb felt right and found a sense of belonging. I highly recommend this story.
I received an ARC through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
This is the third book in this series and we finally get to know the youngest Harper brother, Caleb, who is newly retired from the military and working and living his passion as a horse trainer at the family ranch. This is where he meets Audrey Martinez, an equine veterinarian. These two are perfect for each other. Both are world weary and heart wise and both guard their hearts but the chemistry is palpable. Suspense, romance, family, cowboys, mystery, and so much chemistry keep the pages turning and I was not able to put this one down! This one can be read as a standalone but the entire series is great.
Caleb and Audrey are terrific together!
This is a solid romance story set on a foundation of suspense – who’s poisoning the horses, and why? Audrey is the best vet in the area, but she’s got an uphill climb trying to figure out what’s killing the horses. Caleb is on hand to provide protection as she runs her tests and cares for the horses. There’s plenty of excitement as he and his brothers are on high alert around the clock, trying to keep Audrey and her sister safe.
The mystery/suspense part of the story was well done, but the real meat of the story is the growing romance between Caleb and Audrey. They each have their reasons for not wanting to risk a long-term relationship, but their undeniable chemistry pulls them together faster than their gun-shy hearts can stop them. I loved the inclusion of the rest of Caleb’s family; the celebrations and the heartaches all serve to round out these characters until they feel like your own family. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is my first book by Donna Grant and I can assure you it will not be my last. I am going to get the first two in this series for starters!
I loved the mystery and suspense. I loved Caleb! Who doesn’t love a sexy cowboy, right?! Audrey is a dedicated vet who is passionate about her job and the animals. Both have issues with putting themselves out there for any type of relationship, nor do they want one. Well, that is until they are thrown together to figure out what is happening to the horses. The chemistry and attraction cannot be denied.
As much as they try to deny it, to fight it, you know love will win out in the end.
This book has a great mix of mystery, suspense, romance, and family interwoven together nicely.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for an advance copy. This is my voluntary, unbiased review.
Audrey Martinez and Caleb Harper are two of a kind. Audrey is seeking a love like her parents had and she won’t settle for anything less. Caleb has abandonment issues and never lets anyone in. From the moment they meet, sparks are flying. Neither are willing to risk their hearts. In the midst of their attraction, horses are being hurt purposely. It is a race against time to find out who and how they can save the horses. This is the third book and I enjoyed coming back to old friends.
This is a fast-paced romantic suspense with wonderful characters. This is a solid 5 star read. The story flowed seamlessly from the beginning until the end. The suspense keeps you pulled in and I couldn’t put the book down until the end. The in depth, amazing characters left me wanting to know all of their stories. I can’t wait to read the next book and I would definitely recommend it.
A fantastic read that kept me entertained and intrigued from beginning to end while sitting on the edge of my seat and turning the pages faster than ever to see what would happen. It was so beautifully written, I felt like I was right in the middle of the action with the realistic characters and sharing their emotions through the suspense, family drama, and so much more. I loved the instant attraction, undeniable chemistry and romance between equine veterinarian Audrey Martinez and Caleb Harper, a tried-and-true Texas tough cowboy.
“My Favorite Cowboy” is a must-read for anyone who enjoys well-crafted suspenseful romance. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my voluntary review. I enjoyed the book so much, I purchased a copy for my keeper library.

My Favorite Cowboy by Donna Grant weaves a story of a small country town in horse country. If you have ever lived in the country you understand the difference in country and horse country. Donna nailed it. Her writing pulls you in. This is a feel good, sweet country love song but you get a little mystery and suspense mixed in. Life is not all roses, right?
This is my first contemporary romance by Donna Grant and now I need to go back and read the previous two books in this series. Country boy + military background is a match made in heaven in my book. Caleb’s is a love’em and leave’em type. He has trust issues that run deep. But when he sees a sexy little vet walking away, he did not realize how fast that love’em and leave’em motto gets thrown out the window.
Audrey is a well known local equine vet that is one of the best for a good reason. She has pushed herself to be the best. Now helping out a family friend to help save their horses she finds herself in a situation that could ruin everything she has ever worked for. In walks the Harpers. Should I say walk or should I say swaggers? And man, my brain went into overdrive picturing those wranglers when Audrey saw them in her mirror.
I enjoyed this book as much as I expected when I read the synopsis. Audrey and Caleb were a little stubborn in the end but what do you expect from two independent people with history as they do. I loved how close Caleb’s family is. How there was no second thought in helping out, even his Army buddies Jace and Cooper. My only question is when will Maddie get a Cowboy??? I would love to read that book as feisty as she is. Maybe Jace or Cooper….hmmm.
The Heart of Texas series is based on a sister and her two younger brothers. Abby’s story is told in book one – The Christmas Cowboy Hero. Brice has his HEA in book 2, Cowboy Cross My Heart which takes place years after book one, with the brothers now men. The latest book, My Favorite Cowboy is Caleb’s story, the youngest Harper.
A good cowboy romance. There was instant attraction but both are dealing with relationship issues. I did like that the relationship was work in progress. There was a wonderful blend of mystery, suspense, and romance. I liked the storyline, the characters, and writing. I have enjoyed all three books in the series and seeing all three Harpers get their HEA.
Note: This can be read completely as a stand-alone read and you will not be lost with not having read book 1 or 2.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Audrey is a vet, so she spend most of her time, who is she kidding, she spend ALL of her time taking care of horses.
She would like to meet a man, but where is she going to find the time.
Caleb is wary of relationships.
When he meets Audrey, there are more than sparks.
From the beginning, the chemistry and attraction are there.
Now, they just have to act on it.
Will these 2 give love a chance ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Audrey Martinez has always loved horses and is one of the areas most-requested vets. When a few horses fall ill, she’s called in by a family friend to help, but when accidents start happening, it becomes clear that someone isn’t just after the animals. Caleb Harper and his brother are asked to help protect Audrey and the ranch, but the threat is closer than any of them realize, along with suprises they don’t see coming.
I truly enjoyed this book and the adventure it takes you on. Romance at it’s finest, while making your heart swoon over the animals. A terrific read!
I have mentioned in other reviews that I love reading contemporary western romances. Something about cowboys makes me weak in the knees. They are my not so guilty pleasure. It was a no brainer that I was going to read and review My Favorite Cowboy when I was approached by the publisher.
I liked Audrey. She was a no-nonsense large equine veterinarian who genuinely cared about the animals. She worked for two large ranches and also helped a horse rescue out, free of charge. Her passion and love for horses were palpable. I loved that she was Hispanic. I have read very few books where Hispanic’s are the main female romantic lead. I thought it was wonderful and refreshing.
Caleb had some serious abandonment issues. He was the last person to see his mother before she took off. He asked her not to leave and she left. Her leaving affected everyone but Caleb was affected the most. That left some deep-rooted issues that manifested in Caleb having trust issues. He also couldn’t invest himself in relationships. I did like Caleb. Besides his issues, he was a great guy. It was interesting watching him fight himself as he was falling in love with Audrey. Interesting and sad.
The main plotline was excellent. It went from who was making the horses sick to who had a personal vendetta against Audrey. Usually, I guess who the person was early on in the book. But, in this case, I was kept on my toes. I was surprised at who that person turned out to be. I was also surprised at the lengths that person went through to cover their tracks. I thought it was going to be someone else and my mind was blown when that person’s identity was revealed.
There were a few secondary plotlines. One involved Caleb, Brice and Abby’s mother, Helen. Another one was Brice and Naomi’s fertility issues. Another one involved Audrey and Maddy’s father. They were all wonderfully written.
I was mad with the storyline involving Brice and Naomi. Caleb shouldn’t have said ANYTHING. NADA. It wasn’t his place. I would have been so upset if someone else broke news like that to the family.
I also understood why Caleb was so against meeting Helen. I also understood why he did what he did at the end of that storyline. Forgiveness is a hard thing to do.
I will say that the storyline involving Audrey and Maddy’s father was the only one that didn’t make sense. From the beginning to the end, I was left going “He did what? Why turn up now?“.
The sex scenes were fog up my Kindle’s screen hot. I was a little disappointed that the author went the whole “I forgot to wear a condom, hope you are clean” route. I know these are fictional characters but I was mentally screaming at them “Diseases, people. DISEASES. Get tested ASAP.”
The end of My Favorite Cowboy was nail-biting. The bad guy was revealed as was the reasons why that person did what they did. I loved the epilogue. I was left wondering if there was going to be more books in the series. I am hoping so.
Right off the bat, there’s drama, mystery and excitement. And to top that all off, the chemistry between Caleb and Audrey is off the charts. They spend the better part of the book dancing around each other. Both have their own past personal issues that keep them apart.
By the time you’re done, you won’t know which end is up. 5 stars!
