Gabby wasn’t sure what she expected when she became a nurse at a Renaissance faire, but Ye Olde Plague of Crabs wasn’t it.Gabby Mays couldn’t be happier with her boyfriend Will and her new career as a nurse, but that doesn’t mean life is perfect. In the three years Gabby and Will have been together, they’ve weathered their share of rent increases and novel rejections. Their financial situation is … Their financial situation is getting increasingly desperate—and their sex life increasingly sporadic.
When Gabby takes a side job at a Renaissance faire as the on-site nurse, she thinks this will bring in a little extra money to take the pressure off Will, who is in the middle of yet another novel he’s afraid will fail. But the more Gabby tries to fix things, the more things between her and Will seem to deteriorate, and Gabby can’t help but feel that the problem may be, well, her.
Gabby can handle too-tight corsets, stuck-up knights, and even the seemingly-spontaneous faire pubic lice outbreak. But if she loses Will, this may be the end of her fairy tale.
My Faire Lady is a direct sequel to The Extra, and has PG-13 rated language and sexual content, no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a swoon-worthy Happily Ever After. While it’s not necessary to have read all the previous books in the series, we do recommend that you read The Extra first.

What happens after you get your Cinderella ending and ride off into the sunset……………real life baby!!!
So what happens when you get what you want and ride off into the sunset? Well it can get dull and strained is what Gabby finds out in My Faire Lady, the sixth book in The Extra series. In the first book of the series, The Extra, Gabby is trying to find something to do with her life that she can be excited about. When her roommate gets an acting job on a TV show Gabby is lucky enough to also get a recurring extra job on the same show. Then she finds out that one of the script writers is Will, who she had a major crush on when she worked for him at a bookstore. That is until he fired her after an incident in the staff room.
Now it is a few years later and that sunset ride is not quite so romantic after all. I mean there are the everyday struggles of any couple that happen. Luckily Gabby has finally found the career that she really loves and is good at and has become a nurse. But Will has had a few books that have flopped and he is trying to write another one. This couple really needs to have a deep and open conversation to lay it all out there and work it out between them. There were still things that made me laugh and others that made me cry. But I thought the book was long and the story was slow in places. So some good editing could have tightened it up for me and made it zippier. Overall though I liked this follow-up to Gabby’s Cinderella ending in The Extra.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
With Will working on his second novel, Gabby picks up a second job at the Ren Faire to make ends meet. This isn’t her scene, but she’s determined to make the most of it. It’s going to be an easy week putting bandaids on cuts and scrapes, and making sure people are hydrated. But she gets more than she bargained for with a case of pubic lice. And when there’s one case, there’s surely more to follow, especially in Gabby’s world. Let the hilarity ensue.
Meanwhile, on the homefront, things are tense with Will and there’s a growing distance between them. They aren’t connecting as they used to, and Gabby isn’t sure how to fix things. With her low self-esteem, Gabby is internalizing their problems, a lot of which could be worked through if she and Will would just open up to one another. Proving that relationships need communication.
This has been such a fun series to read. The characters are all interconnected, but the books can be read as standalones (which I adore). I laughed so much in this one. Walker and Patterson are the duo to beat when it comes to romantic comedy. I loved that they went back to give Gabby fans more of her story, as I will always have such a soft spot for her because she’s such a relatable character. My Faire Lady is so well-written, filled with romance, comedy, and multiple real-world issues. Another fantastic addition to the series!
This story is a bit of a catchup with Gabby & Will & many of the other characters in this series. While it still has some of the usual humour it also shows the darker side of everyone’s journeys in life. Not everything is rosy & a few are going through some life altering changes. But I won’t spoil their stories.
However the ren faire is an interesting experience for Gabby & the quirky characters that attend it. So while there is some sadness the touch of humour makes it complete.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a direct sequel to the first book of the series, ‘The Extra’. It tells the story of Gabby and Will and how they struggle with their daily lives. The authors really know how to tell stories in a way that is funny and relatable. You can feel with the characters, even though I never experienced any of the things they went through. The ending was (as always in this series) heart-warming and perfect. Can’t wait to read the next book!

I was disappointed with this book. I kept waiting for a build up to something that never came. Also found it to be pretty depressing for a book described as a romantic comedy. The writing itself was well done and I liked the main female character Gabby and the secondary characters. Will came across as a pathetic excuse for a boyfriend and really was a turnoff.
