In early 19th century England, moving from one class to another was almost impossible. Rebecca Thomas, the beautiful daughter of the local blacksmith encounters Sir William Courtenay, the dashing and handsome Earl of Devon who falls in love with her as soon as he sees her. Described as a wraith, many believe her to be one of the magical forest dwellers, because she is so different and so … beautiful. The Earl, recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh, has a reputation as a lady’s man, and has been dubbed “the earl of depravity” because of the rumors of his sordid past. The earl, along with his advisor, Dodsworth, offer to train Rebecca to be a lady as a way to marry her, and to improve her lot. Through a series of difficult and challenging adventures, balls, soirees, lessons, duels, and pranks, their relationship develops into a powerful and all-consuming love affair. There are many twists and turns on the road to happiness though, and it is by no means clear that this uncommon and, in some ways dangerous relationship will be allowed to develop.
My Earl of Depravity is a 47,000-word clean Regency romance story with a happily ever after ending.

My Earl of Depravity
by Lisa Brooks
My Earl of Depravity is a glorious story; where our author introduces her readers to the main characters immediately, a noble gentleman choosing a common girl with a heart of gold; not something that is common in this story’s era, showing that love has no boundaries. This story has a lot of soul searching mixed with some funny shenanigans and even some jealousy that makes this book well worth reading. A magnificent story that proves that the position in society that you are born in does not show your true worth or what you can accomplish, there is some revelation of truth in that which is thought-provoking.
Let the adventure begin; the story is told in the manner of a fairytale with the feel of Cinderella, without the wicked stepfamily and mixed with a touch of My Fair Lady; it is the most delightful read quiet enchanting! Our leading lady is the beautiful fair-haired daughter of a blacksmith, a rare beautiful that everyone treats differently, she has a love for the forest and the animals over anything that a city has to offer. Our leading male is astonished when he sees our lady the first time and falls in love; but does not let his true intentions known and want to fool society into believing she is a born lady.
Lisa Brooks has done her research of the era, the history is very well represented, and is well written. I like that the author put in words that makes her readers stop and question the meaning of the word and must do some research of their own; words like: “the cock walk” and “a costume negligée”; that is always a good thing because it makes the reader think and increase knowledge.
My Earl of Depravity is fun read and very enjoyable; which pulled me in right from the start; could not wait to see what was going to happen next. I have grown to love the Regency era of stories, due to the research that the author/s have put into their work. I recommend reading My Earl of Depravity it is a clean read and a delightfully amusing charade. I loved this story from start to finish; such a sweet, tender love story. I had the honor of reading this twice for the author and want to write a review of my personal option of the book My Earl of Depravity and its author Lisa Brooks; both are deserving of 4.5-starts.

I really liked the plot line a sort of Cinderella story without the wicked step family. Unless you count Ruth. Anyway right of the bat we are introduced to the main characters. The Hero of the story is the newly minted Earl, Sir William Courtenay, Tenth Earl of Devon. Then we have the heroine Rebecca, Beautiful daughter of a blacksmith, fair-haired specter and reader of romances. Right from the start it had me pulled in. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next I kept hoping someone would smack the hero. He caused so much drama by not making his true intentions known. And the heroine well her ridiculousness seemed to have no bounds. I also felt Ruths character to be confusing. There were so many times I thought “what in the world” I just wanted to throw my kindle. Thankfully I didn’t because if I had I would have missed such things as “the cock walk” and “a costume neglig’e.” As there were several terms I had never heard of before it prompted me to do some research and in my opinion that’s always a good thing because it makes you think and increases knowledge. I’m not a big fan of over the top insta love and I never felt Rebecca’s true transformation into a lady. I was also disappointed in the level of depravity. For those reasons I gave it 3 stars. I also recommend reading My Earl of Depravity it is a clean read and a delightfully amusing farce.

All the drama, angst and intrigue keep you riveted on the edge of your seat. When push comes to shove, all bets are off. Lisa really brings this baby together beautifully with a delicious storyline and enchanting plot. The two main characters chemistry is heart melting, sweet and palpable. The characters are complex, believable and so realistic with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so descriptive and detailed it’s easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Remarkable job Lisa, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
Thisvis the story of William and Rebecca. Good storyline. Funny in places. Nice read. I enjoyed the overall book but there were some parts that bothered me. Needs a little more work.

I loved the movie Pygmalion, the original and the remake. After I started reading this, I thought it may have been the same romantic model. The relationship between the main characters seemed so shallow. Pretty much based on looks and nothing else. I felt dispassionate and disappointed in the story. It did not ring true to most other Regency books I have read. Others may enjoy this book but I did not.
I enjoyed reading this charming romance. The characters are pleasant and interesting. I was able to get drawn into the story quickly and easily. The setting wasn’t the usual London nor was the Season and its endless entertainments involved. It’s a refreshing change of pace and the story is all the more likable for it.

Sir William Courtenay, Tenth Earl of Devon, and 10 other riders dressed in hunt regalia, noisily entered the courtyard of the Dew Drop Inn. The Earl’s horse had lost a shoe which needed replacing and Silas Thomas, the blacksmith, asked for payment. The Earl said he didn’t carry money on the hunt, but his credit should be good. He was new to the area when his Aunt passed, which is why Silas hadn’t heard of him. As they talked, a beautiful girl appeared, her nose in a book, and William could not take his eyes off her. Rebecca, Silas’ youngest daughter, had an otherworldly appearance.
William was so taken with Rebecca that he had his advisor, Dodsworth, take a leather-bound journal as a gift to her, along with a letter inviting her to his estate. Eventually, the Earl and Dodsworth offer to train Rebecca to be a lady as a way to marry her, perhaps their developing relationship putting them in potential danger. Will the Earl pursue Rebecca, regardless of the consequences?
There was something about this book that just didn’t pull me in, which surprised me since I love this genre. It just felt very strange. The characters were not all that likable, their personalities told to us rather than allowing the reader to discover them as the characters interacted with others. Regardless, I didn’t connect with this one. The attempt at capturing accents made it seem awkward to read, and the use of modern terms in the text seemed anachronistic, such as when the Earl’s “entire body seemed to have been turned to jelly” when he saw the lovely Rebecca. The fact of the Earl’s immediate banning fox hunting with harsh penalties of imprisonment or hanging on the spot if found doing so, just because Rebecca liked foxes, was not believable. I would definitely read other books by this author. I think it was only this one that didn’t hold my interest.
Early 19th Century What does being in a different class in society have to do with love? Sometimes a lot when it came to marry benetth your class when you were a titled gentleman! When Sir William, the Earl of Devon stopped at the blacksmith to have his horse seen to, he encounters a vision! The beautiful young girl was Rebecca, the daughter of the blacksmith. He was smitten but also a little haughty due to her not respecting he was a peer!
What to do? Teach her how to be a lady and go out in society! Then the adventure begins! This story was told in the manner of a fairytale and quiet enchanting! I imagine in audible it would be even better. Follow the road to love and see if these two can make Rebecca a lady and these two can come together!

This is a different story for this time period where the rich and the poor did not mix together. Rebecca Thomas, the beautiful daughter of the local blacksmith encounters Sir William Courtenay, the Earl of Devon who has the nickname “the earl of depravity”. This story is well written and flows smoothly from page to page. I enjoyed the wedding scene. This book also had me laughing at some of the things that happened.
