“An edge-of my sear immersion into historical events…No study of Alexander Hamilton would be complete without reading this book.” —Karen White, New York Times bestselling author“The best book of the year!” —Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Alice NetworkWife, Widow, and Warrior in Alexander Hamilton’s quest for a more perfect unionFrom the New York Times bestselling authors … Hamilton’s quest for a more perfect union
From the New York Times bestselling authors of America’s First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton—a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. Perfect for fans of Ron Chernow’s biography Alexander Hamilton and fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton: the Musical.
In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written novel, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza’s story as it’s never been told before—not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal—but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.
A general’s daughter…
Coming of age on the perilous frontier of revolutionary New York, Elizabeth Schuyler champions the fight for independence. And when she meets Alexander Hamilton, Washington’s penniless but passionate aide-de-camp, she’s captivated by the young officer’s charisma and brilliance. They fall in love, despite Hamilton’s bastard birth and the uncertainties of war.
A founding father’s wife…
But the union they create—in their marriage and the new nation—is far from perfect. From glittering inaugural balls to bloody street riots, the Hamiltons are at the center of it all—including the political treachery of America’s first sex scandal, which forces Eliza to struggle through heartbreak and betrayal to find forgiveness.
The last surviving light of the Revolution…
When a duel destroys Eliza’s hard-won peace, the grieving widow fights her husband’s enemies to preserve Alexander’s legacy. But long-buried secrets threaten everything Eliza believes about her marriage and her own legacy. Questioning her tireless devotion to the man and country that have broken her heart, she’s left with one last battle—to understand the flawed man she married and imperfect union he could never have created without her…

Getting ready for a trip to NYC and Hamilton (the play) so I wanted another perspective on Alexander Hamilton. This was a good read and very informative. I especially enjoyed the notes by the authors at the end.
Great people, great events, great story, great read!
Excellent! A great telling of America’s foundation and founding fathers.
I love history and I was so excited to read My Dear Hamilton. It was so much more than I expected. It was like taking a behind the scenes journey in the founding of our great nation through the eyes of Eliza Hamilton. What a journey it was! There is so much content in this book surrounding the Founding Fathers and what efforts and sacrifices they went through to establish our country. I learned so much!
The authors did a fantastic job of researching and creating a history of Eliza Hamilton based on facts and documents. Her story has so many facets to it. From her childhood and family devotion, to her early adulthood and meeting Alexander Hamilton, to her marriage to him and the life they had together. It was a marriage that was loving and supportive but there were also struggles and difficult times. Eliza was Alexander Hamilton’s champion and believed in his love for the country and his desire to make it succeed. This story is a saga that I loved reading and made me appreciate even more what it took to begin our great nation.
I appreciate the in depth conversation at the end of the book about what the authors created the story on and their research into writing this novel.
Both Alexander & Eliza Hamilton contributed to the establishment & growth of the United States government, sacrificing their own happiness & lives in the process.
Being so fond of historical fiction, I found this book to be so many things from informative, well written, and apparently well researched. I love it when an author takes famous or not famous historic persons and make them human. This author was able to take a number of our founding fathers of this country and make them into persons with feelings, personality and reasoning (whether it be fact or fictional). Mrs. Hamilton’s life was both exceptional and tragic. If she truly was a woman like she was portrayed in this book, I admire her greatly. She appeared to be a woman of honor, respectability, intelligent and loving. Best book I’ve read in a very long time.
After having read about Hamilton I was glad to see the same story from Eliza’s perspective.
Great read. This historical novel provided a lot of information I was unaware about Alexander Hamilton. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the writing style.
Entertaining and packed with history.
I was riveted to this book! Not only were the historical components fascinating it was a totally great read. All women should read this. We’ve come a long way, but still have plenty to accomplish before gender equality is a reality. Insights into the political situation at the time were a revelation. Somewhat comforting to know democracy and The United States survived the turmoil of the times.
Wish I had read this book before I saw the play Hamilton!
I read this before seeing Hamilton musical and it truly enhanced my enjoyment of play. I learned so much from this book
This book presented an interesting perspective of the lives of Alexander and Elizabeth Hamilton. I enjoyed the style of the author and the melding of history and fiction.
This is a very long book. Took me a good while to get through it. History I didn’t know wrapped around a woman I could easily relate to. Great story and accurate historical detail and facts. Just got dry in a few spots because it is such a long book.
Loved the book and learned a lot. However, at times it was wordy and a little long. Overall, a great read.
This book, though a fiction, gives a good account of the history of the time. It makes me want to go back to history class and pay better attention. The characters and story are entertaining as well. It kept me reading when I should have been sleeping.
I did not want to put this book down. I never realized how interconnected the lives of our founding father were. Elizabeth Schuyler is truly the woman behind Hamilton. She fought her own battles while trying to improve life in the colonies before and during early statehood. She was a true lady .
Great historical read !
Learned so much fascinating American history in this book.
Great read of historical fiction about our founding fathers.
