“An edge-of my sear immersion into historical events…No study of Alexander Hamilton would be complete without reading this book.” —Karen White, New York Times bestselling author“The best book of the year!” —Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Alice NetworkWife, Widow, and Warrior in Alexander Hamilton’s quest for a more perfect unionFrom the New York Times bestselling authors … Hamilton’s quest for a more perfect union
From the New York Times bestselling authors of America’s First Daughter comes the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton—a revolutionary woman who, like her new nation, struggled to define herself in the wake of war, betrayal, and tragedy. Perfect for fans of Ron Chernow’s biography Alexander Hamilton and fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton: the Musical.
In this haunting, moving, and beautifully written novel, Dray and Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza’s story as it’s never been told before—not just as the wronged wife at the center of a political sex scandal—but also as a founding mother who shaped an American legacy in her own right.
A general’s daughter…
Coming of age on the perilous frontier of revolutionary New York, Elizabeth Schuyler champions the fight for independence. And when she meets Alexander Hamilton, Washington’s penniless but passionate aide-de-camp, she’s captivated by the young officer’s charisma and brilliance. They fall in love, despite Hamilton’s bastard birth and the uncertainties of war.
A founding father’s wife…
But the union they create—in their marriage and the new nation—is far from perfect. From glittering inaugural balls to bloody street riots, the Hamiltons are at the center of it all—including the political treachery of America’s first sex scandal, which forces Eliza to struggle through heartbreak and betrayal to find forgiveness.
The last surviving light of the Revolution…
When a duel destroys Eliza’s hard-won peace, the grieving widow fights her husband’s enemies to preserve Alexander’s legacy. But long-buried secrets threaten everything Eliza believes about her marriage and her own legacy. Questioning her tireless devotion to the man and country that have broken her heart, she’s left with one last battle—to understand the flawed man she married and imperfect union he could never have created without her…

DUM !
Really enjoyed the historical information woven into this book. It is inspiring to read about the founding of this country and to think about the challenges that were present in those times.
I had read several books about Eliza, but this was the best one because it provided information on Eliza’s lef before and after her marriage to Alexander Hamilton. He was not an easy spouse, and the mixed emotions were well portrayed. Her post AH career as an activist for widows and orphans was very detailed.
My Dear Hamilton is a novel i read in a few days. I could not put it down. Reading this book gave me a great appreciation of what our forefathers did for our nation. I also have a deeper sense of the hardship of early American ladies. Alexander Hamilton may have accomplished many things but being true to his wife is truly disappointment.
Loved history of Mrs. Hamilton
Great book
Historically informative with a good story.
Such an incredible read! It took me by surprise all that I did not know about this couple. Best ever read, by far, on this historical figure.
Love all things Hamilton!
Very good historical fiction. Enjoyed reading and learning.
A view of our founding fathers that displaces a lot of the “heroes and saints” view taught in school history classes. They were just men, with man’s foibles, flaws and faults. Told from Alexander Hamilton’s wife Betsy’s point of view, we are given a front row seat to the Revolution and the building of a nation. If you think there are political intrigues and dirty politics now, wait until you learn about the men and women who built our nation.
Love this book!
Just can’t get enough Hamilton.
Needed a better editor. Got tired of the unending emphasis on Hamilton’s sexual needs.
Loved the story of Alexander Hamilton as told by his wife Eliza. Well researched and written.
It was great to see Alexander Hamilton through the mind of his wife! What a unique perspective!
Great idea to tell the story from the wife’s perspective.
One of the best books I have read in a year!
I enjoyed this book because some of the historical events were portrayed very realistically. There was good description from Hamilton’s view point, and although a tragic story you could related to the times and trials the couple went through.
I loved it. One of the best historical novels I’ve ever read. Great to see an historical person from another point of view. Especially his wife ‘s.
